Fans expensive travel awaits fixtures

252

Having strained a hamstring against St Johnstone on Saturday, it is not credible to expect Giorgos Giakoumakis to play any part in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final. We have surely learned from recent experiences that strained hamstrings require proper rest, to prevent a more serious injury.

Kyogo’s return to action was a joy but too brief for him to be considered as starter anytime soon. He will be fit to torment defenders in small doses only for a while. That leaves us without our MVP in recent months and our MVP from the first half of the season in a hugely important cup tie.

There are reasons not to be too concerned. Celtic have scored nine from eight different players since the last goal they conceded, Matt O’Riley is the only one to have broken the sequence by contributing more than once. This team contribute goals from all over the park.  Maybe Hampden will see Greg Taylor get in on the act!

The post-split fixtures are likely to see us go to Ross County and Dundee United, with Newco, Hearts and Motherwell at home. Hopefully the game at County’s tiny Dingwall stadium is not material to the title race.  The SPFL have known the scenario for two days now, so let’s hope the fixtures come out this afternoon.  When you live in a Scottish bubble it is easy to forget many people have difficult and expensive travel arrangements to book just to see their team play football.  At the very least they deserve as much notice as possible.

  1. Dessybhoy. Even if they do gub Motherwell, if we beat Ross County & then the Huns we will be 9 clear with vastly superior goal difference & effectively Champions.

  2. I agree but as I said initially when then fixtures were announced our first 2 games are the toughest.

  3. If I have read it correctly, Sky are showing all 5 of our games live and only their game against Motherwell (and against us).

Looks to me like Sky have planned to be at the title winning game and their money is on us.

  5. A wee aside.

Interestingly for me, only Hertz have nothing to play for in the league split, they are gauranteed 3rd place and quilification for Europe.

Celtic and The Old Firmers are gauranteed 1st and 2nd, just which, as Corkie says, get to that glasgow derby still 6 in front at kick off, and we can win the leaghue with a solid win on that day 9 points clear +20 at least goals diff ahead, its our.

However, for once, the other 3 teams, United, County, Motherwell are seperated by only a point, they want that 4th position for europe, they do have a real prize on offer.

In turn, if hearts make the cup final against us or the old firmers, then a 5th league position is also in play for ECL. Only hibs in the Scottich cup final changes this.

So all those 3 teams have points to win are in their wee mini league with a big prize, and in my humble opinion one of them will beat the old firm team, and on our part County should not be under estimated.

if that makes any sense, i had a sore heid trying to work it out.

  6. as an aside to an aside.

I quite enjoy The Championship games on a friday night (even in gaelic), especially if morton get a feature.

but what has been bizarre in the league is how few goals have been scored, in 33 games the top 4 have 46, 45, 45, 44, killie could win the league with only 48 goals scored.

    a statistical freak, an outlier,

  7. So we win the league on 1st May at lunchtime and celebrate at the Celtic poty that evening !

    Carlsberg Sunday.

  8. Team for Sunday, can’t see past…Hart, Taylor, Starfelt, Carter-Vickers, Juranovic, Hatate, McGregor, Rogic, Maeda, Abada, Jota.

Are there any Madrid-based Celts able to help with a place to watch the last game of the season against Motherwell?

There will be a big group (about 25 of us) over. Have tried booking the James Joyce pub and Paddy’s Tavern online, but no luck yet.

………..lumpin’ the huns with ” the old firm” tag……………very, very cute and thems will hate it. Thur horrible behaviour has defined so much of thur unique kulchur and behaviour.

    :)))))

    HHH.

  11. Well at least that is the date of the Old Firm league match confirmed. I am pleased as I fully expected it to the first fixture chosen. Both leaders and potential runners-up are away from home in game one – that sounds fair to me. In fact the complete fixture list is structured fairly gin my opinion. If they lose at Motherwell and we win at Dingwall, we can ‘clinch the cinch’ at Paradise(that’s a surprise). The last fixture is also good for us. Obviously the police did not fancy two consecutive Old Firm and leant on the SPFL…..to our advantage. Wonder what shape the conspiracy theories will take now.HH

  12. what is this “old firm” you talk off, do you really mean celtic versus the old firm glasgow derby.

see the cinch the cinch patter as well, its rubbish.

I can’t believe the first CQN comment listing post-split fixtures was the Old Firm fixtures rather than Celtic’s. Seriously?

they were the first source i found on line, follow follow had them up before the spl did

  15. lets all do the huddle on

another scenario which would be a treat if we dont win the league at a home game

though i havent quite worked out what needs to happen for it to be possible!

    sunday 8th of.may

the huns are at home to dundee united at 3pm

we will have played the day before

hamilton racing is on the 8th as well, first race 4pm – live on cooncil telly for the first time. their richest ever meeting so will be a big turnout

im thinking how good it would be if the huns dropped points that day which meant we won the league with loads of celtic fans going mental at the racing live on the telly!!

  16. Tom McLaughlin on

I don’t think the SPFL or the police have any objection to a Glasgow Derby potentially being a league decider after Celtic won the title at home to Old Firm 3 years ago.

  17. lets all do the huddle on

the thing i dont like about the whole post split fixture dates scenario

we all know tbat the spfl, sky and the cops have a say in it to a greater or lesser extent so are involved on the discussions

yet we never find out what any of these parties say in these discussions

    its all smoke and mirrors

which i can accept from sky as a private organisation

but the cops are funded by public cash, so unless its a matter of national or public safety then their input to these discussions should made available to us who fund them

  18. Incredible to think where we are in the League, already………….thanks largely to who The Club’s brought in, from playing staff to Ange…………….

I’m happy enough with what we’ve achieved so far and what we have to look forward to in the future………………….

    It’s Good To Be a Tim……

  19. Tom,

it was a gamble though, cos it might have just been made up by one of their rockets.

FF conspiracy theories are seriously worse than ours.

the reason the fixtures were late was because they had to be ratified by Nicholson (who is still worked by Peter Lawwell), and referees are scared to ref us properlty since our chairman spoke out, and Dermo is only bumpin his gums now cos its all been worked out to let celtic win the title.

  20. St.Stivs. I was on holiday in the USA and attended that game at Kearney High School. Big Jock was beginning his experiments that led to Lisbon. That night he had players playing in different positions. If my memory serves me well, he had Big Tommy Gemmell playing up front. Something I reminded Tommy about when I met him out in a square in Jerez the night before our game in Seville. Good memories but have not forgiven the tactics of that guy ,what’s his name, who cheated us that night in Seville. Nearly forgot. My American cousins could not believe the speed of Bobby Lennox.

The hun who threw the bottle at the physio, is in the Orange Lodge…..no great surprise there

2 points- Why have the SFA not said anything about it?

Why have Celtic not banned them ,from the game in a couple of weeks….at least?

  22. Train Tickets purchased for games on 7th and 14th.I can only hope Sky don`t change the KO times.

  23. C12

Great Uncle Pat spoke often of that trip, i remember one year he brought a folder of photies of the celtic in Kearny not just the match, but a banquet after.

Looking at the celticwiki they dont have any game details,

I am going to ask Patsy if Maureen has her dads stuff. see what we can find out.

  24. HS

They look Sky’d and to be fair ,UK train fares are more expensive than my flights from Dublin so I understand your fear!!

  25. !!BADA BING!! on 11TH APRIL 2022 8:11 PM

I think we know why the SFA have said nothing. Actually, if they have said anything and we were depending on the MSSM to relay said comment, we would be none the wiser.

As I no longer go to games against the Old Firm, I suppose my view here is irrelevant but, much as there are thousand in their support who , to put it politely, behave badly, I don`t think it fair to punish EVERYONE for the actions of a few. We know how we have felt when the occasional idiot at Celtic Park behaves badly leads to punishment for all.

They look Sky’d and to be fair ,”

I hope you are right but the tickets, with a Rail Card, only amounted to 33 pounds in total. Great value really and always available if you can book just the right amount of time in advance.

I have noticed that calm as well. No outrage in terms of violence and no excitement over a maiden title potentially for Ange.

As Kubler-Ross would say; in shock

  28. ……mind you, I arrive in Glasgow at 4am and leave at midnight . Good value though .
