Fans will be at Hampden, you can bet their lives on it

406

Politics is very much at play in football these days.  With Boris Johnson indicating yesterday that he expects up to 10,000 fans inside football stadiums from 17 May, you can expect his Holyrood shadow to propose a similar plan, perhaps a week later/earlier, as has been her way for 11 months.

If the 17 May date feels arbitrary, it is not.  Euro 20201 fixtures get underway a month later, offering populist governments a way to compare how far along the recovery road their surviving citizens are.  Governments in London and Edinburgh will permit domestic fans to attend games just in time for their flag waving opportunities.

There will be fans at Wembley and Hampden, irrespective of what’s going on in public health, you can bet their lives on it.

  1. Best thing for the club AND Lenny. Some of the loudmouths on here with their bile and vitriol are beyond words. We all said it was overdue, his leaving ,but to listen to some of the comments, made me,personally, ashamed .

We will see in the games to come, with JKs selections, how things were in the dugout.Did he have ideas not listened to.Did he have team selection ideas, ignored.

What about Strachan.I did tell anyone who would listen, during the Ivan Toney saga, that Peterbro thought he was fantastic. He was one of the reasons Toney hung out for a Celtic move. Was his input ignored.8 games to find out.

Anyway, good luck Lenny. What the man endured simply by doing his job for the team he loved, his life threatened, assaulted several times, police protection, having to move your family because of threats, all forgotten by the ungrateful element in our support, forever to their shame.

I always loved our support, but, not so much now.We also have a dark underbelly, far to similar to the Huns across the City, and its been on display, far too often this season.

The only robust plan our custodians have had has paid off in terms of keeping our city rivals alive.

They haven’t a clue regarding how to proceed regarding a new manager and the scope of their Match Of The Day horizons extends only as far as being the ugly guy at the dancing peering longingly at S Clarke or R Martinez after the Euros.

By which time the CL qualifying will have started.

And we find ourselves playing teams a bit better than Reykjavik and Ferencvaros.

  3. About 5 months too late. Pig sick of our efforts this season. Sunday night’s game was Pathetic and Embarrassing for all to see, and was symptomatic of Lennon’s season in charge. Unfortunately for whatever reason he lost the players and his inability to change things on the park.

He leaves with a sense of relief rather than one of hero status, given that he will always be known as the man that lost the 10. Not the way i would have chosen to remember Neil.

Thanks for all you gave us in the past Neil, and hopefully one day we will hear the real reason of our demise in 2020/21.

Lawwell, a coward to the very end, let’s him resign. Loses his human shield, but saves some money towards his own bonus.

Lawwell let this run and run by exploiting the absence of fans.

    Toxic.

  5. We need a team to come in and rebuild the Club from the Academy upwards, coaching and fitness is non existent, Lennoxtown is not producing players to challenge for a jersey, needs to change, must be about £2.5 million a year to run the place.

  6. Sad for Neil, always a Celtic hero to me.🍀

Keen to see if JK has developed his own style

  7. Neil Lennon & McCartney on

    God bless Neil Francis Lennon

Good luck and thank you for all the wonderful stuff you did as a player & manager for Celtic

    That is all

    Hail Hail Bhoys & Ghirls

There are two great disappointments in life- not getting your heart’s desire, and getting it.

We’ll just have to see how this pans out.

In the meantime very best wishes to Neil Lennon, and thanks for all he did for us as a player, captain and not

    least , manager.

  9. Be very surprised if he resigned, as opposed to being mutually consented, but either way, not before time and good riddance.

  10. What goes around comes around

    And unfortunately for Neil Lennon

    That, means Ross County

Who have came back to haunt him

When there is the hope, especially when there are going to be sweeping changes I have faith, so may say misguided, some may blind faith. The 10 has gone, that’s what I wanted, the best thing that would have happened to our club since 1967.

I know you are annoyed, I share your pain.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  12. FATJACK67 on 24TH FEBRUARY 2021 8:57 AM

    Agreed.

Historically we prefer not to ‘sack’ managers, it’s too uncouth for our sensibilities.

We regrettably ‘choose not to extend contract’ or ‘mutually consent’ managers.

NL was perfectly entitled to sit and make them pay him off. Being a “Celtic Legend” doesn’t pay the mortgage or build the pension plan.

  13. Neil Lennon:

You enjoyed success as player and manager, which was loudly appreciated by the fans.Your employment was given solid backing by a board who were pleased with the results that were earned by you and the team. The disastrous campaign in Europe and the awful results that saw us ousted from the league cup and very poor performances in the league, was enough to convince many fans that your time as manager of Celtic Football Club was coming to an end.The board who were happy to keep you on as manager when you and the team were enjoying success should have realised the seriousness that was unfolding, arranged a deal, and saved you from all the nastiness that was directed at you. Some players need to take their share of the blame in what has been an awful few months,of that, there is no doubt. So,to you Neil Lennon,ex player and former manager,I thank you for your time at Celtic Park, for the success you and the team gave us,no,I’m not one the ‘glad to see him gone brigade’, the guys in suits, and very smart guys, prolonged the agony.I wish you well Neil ex player,ex boss, but fan.

    STILL CELTIC

Cheers B, sent big G a photograph the other day, both of us in Copenhagen a year ago this month.

    Hope you are well.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  15. Suggest those derogatory about Neil the man never saw him play for us or were not at THAT Barcelona game.

Yes bad season no denying it but the over zealous remarks are telling.

    IMHO

  16. Of course the BBC scotland news, has to show Neil Lennon at Ibrox with their banners in an empty stand.

  17. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    So that’s that then.

    Goodbye and good luck Neil.

You gave it your best but it wasn’t good enough this year.

In my mind, you’ll always be welcome back at CP.

  18. Goodbye Neil and thank you for those memories you created for me and my bhoy.

Pleased this chapter is over and hope we can now bounce back and create more.

  19. I never wanted Neil Lennon to be our manager but he shall always have my respect for what he achieved and for what he suffered, simply because of who he is.

God bless and keep you and loved ones safe, Neil.

  20. All the best Neil.Good luck in the future.

We must as supprters demand the best man for the job.Its is not time tp try another experIment .JK has done and won nothing as a manager.Lawwell can have no say in this.

    Come on Celtic.

  22. Good luck to Neil for the future!

Where does it say in the Celtic Statement that JK is in place until the end of the season?

    “Interim” surely?

I hope the new manager has/is being sourced as we speak and will be in situ as soon as possible.

Good luck to Celtic for the future.

  23. Philbhoy,

Apparently interviews for the DoF are well underway…..that’s a start in the right direction if it lets us build the right infrastructure with European ambitions.

Get the best manager we can buy and use every advantage.

  25. I can’t say I am sorry to see Neil Lennon go, except on a human level. Never nice to see someone lose their job.

What little faith I had in him disappeared when I saw McGregor picked at left back and the embarrassment of Mikey Johnston as lone centre forward against the huns.

Yes we had some great European Nights, my own favourite being our win in Rome, but some of the other results were indefensible.

Our recent lack of investment, particularly the McGinn and Toney affairs showed the arrogance our board had in thinking the league was a foregone conclusion.

To those belittling Neil Lennon as a player, you must not have been there. He was an integral part of that great Celtic team in the early noughties.

I wish him well, but that’s the end of it. Time to rebuild with professionalism.

New coaching squad, our levels of fitness are a disgrace. New scouts. New manager who will build a team for the next three years.

  26. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

BSR, don’t forget that despite the assault happening on live TV the Hearts supporter was not found guilty.

  27. lets all do the huddle on

    steve clark –

instead of having 6 or 7 scottish players in our starting 11 we will have 10 or 11

a disasterous policy for european progression

  28. If Neil Lennon had one ounce of self respect or any loyalty towards Celtic he would have resigned months ago.

Couldn’t agree more with your post. I had the pleasure of meeting Neil a few times and very nice, down to earth man, who as you say has put up with the worst attacks of any player/manager in the UK, which for the most part has been underplayed or met with ‘he brings it on himself’ nonsense.

I wish him well in all that he does in life, to paraphrase the late, great Jimmy McGrory,

    Neil Lennon, Celtic FC

  30. onenightinlisbon on

Happy that Lennon has gone, three months too late.

Board as culpable as him in this, Kennedy and Strachan should have been shown the door as well.

Damien Duff will be pure raging…..

  31. Go tell the Spartim on

Madra Rita’s first line summed it up perfectly. Mixture of relief that it’s over, NFL has taken us as far as he could (many will say that’s evident from a good while back, even his first tenure, me included )

Wish him well he doesn’t need my thanks his status with Celtic is summed up by BSR.

Just hope our senior CQN’rs are ok this morning, genuinely 🍀🍀🍀
