Fastest, fittest, Celtic, what Ashley has left

669

A little over two months ago Celtic lost at Tannadice and dropped two points at home to Ross County.  After our disastrous August, and home defeat to Hamilton in October, this December blow put Celtic on the canvas one more time.  I was getting calls from Norway “Are you still backing Ronny?” The transformation since has been enormous.

For much of the first half yesterday Celtic were disjointed, not untypical of a team returning from a European disappointment, but despite this, the support knew – actually knew – not to be too concerned.  Things would come together, and even if they didn’t yesterday, they would next time out, and for the rest of the season.

We have purpose and direction.  The first goal arrived courtesy of Aberdeen’s adherence to the oft-discredited man-for-man marking system, but thereafter, the goals, in fact, pretty much all attacks, came courtesy of the fastest, fittest, Celtic team you have ever seen.

Who do you want standing behind an opponent? One of the wealthiest people in the land, or a “glib and shameless liar”? I’d rather the latter, thank you.

As well as being a tax convict, Dave King sat on the Rangers board for a decade as it spiraled towards liquidation. He sat on the board which failed to make provisions for the HMRC tax case – and it was this specific failure, not the tax case, which led to the club being sold to a liquidation specialist for £1.

He campaigned relentlessly against newco, oft repeating his vision of ‘competing with Celtic’, while many of us considered the club should prioritise paying its bills and living within its means.

It seems certain that at some point between now and Friday he will be in de facto control, although his eligibility as a director appears doomed, should rules be applied.

Some will celebrate whenever Mike Ashley’s men depart the scene, but this is in keeping with their many earlier celebrations. Here’s a prediction for you: go back and read what the LibDems said after their people got into cabinet. ‘Once we saw what was under the bonnet, it became clear we couldn’t do what we wanted to do’. I reckon you’re going to hear a version of that in the months to come. Even today, Dave King has no idea what Mike Ashley has left him. All we really know is that the representatives of one very wealthy man are about to leave the scene.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket to the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13th March. If you would like details, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. Big Billy’s Cup Final goal in 1965 started the greatest stretch (yet) in Celtic’s history. I was at the game and all of us knew at that time, that a team with potential had now become a great team. Thank you Billy McNeil.

I strongly feel that we have the potential for another great and entertaining team.

MA has had a months notice to put in place some very profitable onerous contracts e.g a percentage kick back of season books sold for next year and farther.

    —————–

He can’t lose. If King gets in the bears will buy season books and merchandise like never before. And MA will get a favourable slice of it all.

  5. Fingers crossed big MASH walks away from the Huns with his retail contracts still in place and leaves the Zombies to indulge their increasingly disturbing homo-erotic attraction to Dave King.

Hope too that the Scoddish fidba authorities turn a blind eye to the GSL’s history and suitability and throw their knickers at him along with the SMSM.

King will be in there thinking he can recoup some of the lost laundry money him and Minty had scammed through and the first thing to be sold off with cliched excuses will be Murray park after the initial honeymoon.

After that it’ll be popcorn addiction time as the house of cards begins to tumble and the Huns devour each other.

    Can’t wait. ‘Mon the Dave…

Inter deployed those tactics against us.

They pressed 2 players forward right onto Denayer and Virgil to stop them starting our moves.

We may well see others adopting this tactic.

“Police in Aberdeen are investigating “offensive comments” made about a young boy with Down’s Syndrome who won the Scottish Professional Football League Goal of the Month award.

Celtic fan Jay Beatty, 11, of Lurgan, County Armagh, lifted the award for January with 97% of the vote.

Abusive comments about him were posted on social media following Sundays match between Celtic and Aberdeen.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed the comments were being investigated.

She said: “We have received a complaint about offensive comments being made online following the SPL match between Celtic and Aberdeen and inquiries continue.”

An Aberdeen FC spokesman said the club was co-operating with police.”

I hate that phrase ‘Roman Catholic’. I’m no more from Rome than the man in the moon, although I was married there; complete with a papal audience!!

Only those Unionists in Ireland and others from the reformed faiths use that term.

Catholic means universal and the PROTEST-ants do not believe that the Catholic Church is the universal (ie true) Church of Christianity. The term Roman Catholic is therefore a barbed term that is meant to insult and many of the Protestant denominations in the North of Ireland do not see Catholics as valid Christians at all. Indeed The Westminster Confession of Faith states clearly that Pope is the anti-Christ and the Mass is satanic in nature. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_Confession_of_Faith)

Sorry for the lecture but analysing words can expose the thinking that leads to violent sectarianism.

Efe was solid yesterday, at least after Hayes went off, but more games at left back? Mulgrew instead of Izzy? Really strange how people see things.

If I was compiling a list for our player of the year, my top 5 would be

    1. Joe Hansen

    2. VVD

    3. Izzy

    4. Gordon

    5. Brown

Both full backs bomb forward because they provide the natural width in a side where RD likes the wide players to cut inside on to their natural foot, and make diagonal runs in behind. Aberdeen’s full backs tracked those runs well yesterday, but many teams don’t.

When our full backs overlap they have 4 to 6 players in the box to pick out. If it was GMS wide left and Forrest wide right playing as wingers, they would have 2 players in the box to try and pick out. Tough to do against packed defences.

Izzy may not be the greatest defender, his crossing at times is hit and miss, but he is absolutely pivotal to this team and one of the key reasons why we have been playing so well.

Why can’t they issue a adult ticket in place of the kids one and charge you the difference ???

  15. I think the only squad players that will possibly leave us in the Summer are Stokes and Guidetti, and JG only because RD decides to offload him. Virgil is under contract and is going nowhere. Denayer will not be wanted back at Man City, as they will spend 30mil on a new centre half. I want us to sell a few fringe players and bring in a new centre forward. This current squad are going to get better next season. The future is bright.

I don’t think that’s the full story though.

The term Anglo Catholic is used to describe the smells and bells wing of the Anglican Church, and in that context the use of the term Roman Catholic is used to avoid confusion rather than to cause offence.

There was also a kid skelped with a full cup of juice yesterday when Celtic scored. The majority of their fans are not happy with their fans song choices or their behaviour yesterday.

You have to question the family section being so close to the away support. I think the club need to change that.

We are all delighted as Celtic supporters at the way things have panned out. Why can’t you and others like you just be happy to be justified in your faith, rather than take cheap shots at those who had genuine concerns?

I know it was reported in the press, but I dont think there is any chance that OM are offering JG that sort of money. OM are having money trouble, and are already in disputes with several of their top players because they are wanting the players to play for less money than they are on currently.

think it is just an agent stirring up stuff, or MSM doing it.

Cant imagine that anyone would pay him that at the moment… once he has proved his fitness and scored a few more, I’m sure someone somewhere will … but cant see it at the moment.

I wonder, though. Is it a deliberate policy from the club,as there is less likely to be a reaction from the kids’ section?

  30. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

I agree with Parkheadcum……, that the fitness levels of the team, with Armstrong and GMS added are a major factor in the team’s improvement.

The two new boys not only had their individual qualities but also they contribute more to the general energy level of the team, in a way that, e.g. Stokes and Commons don’t.

This means that other players, e.g. Brown, Johansen and Griffiths don’t have to compensate for the relative immobility of the afore mentioned examples.

However, the main man in the team is, for me, Bitton.

He is the fulcrum of the side and dictates the play.

He is always to be found close to the ball, ready to take it off a team mate and keep a momentum.

He, more than anything, is responsible for Brown’s high levels of performance and consistancy.

Scott no longer has to scurry across the midfield firefighting.

Nir will be the player that the big clubs will be sniffing around, as I reckon he can play in any team that plays good, modern football.
