Fastest, fittest, Celtic, what Ashley has left

669

A little over two months ago Celtic lost at Tannadice and dropped two points at home to Ross County.  After our disastrous August, and home defeat to Hamilton in October, this December blow put Celtic on the canvas one more time.  I was getting calls from Norway “Are you still backing Ronny?” The transformation since has been enormous.

For much of the first half yesterday Celtic were disjointed, not untypical of a team returning from a European disappointment, but despite this, the support knew – actually knew – not to be too concerned.  Things would come together, and even if they didn’t yesterday, they would next time out, and for the rest of the season.

We have purpose and direction.  The first goal arrived courtesy of Aberdeen’s adherence to the oft-discredited man-for-man marking system, but thereafter, the goals, in fact, pretty much all attacks, came courtesy of the fastest, fittest, Celtic team you have ever seen.

Who do you want standing behind an opponent? One of the wealthiest people in the land, or a “glib and shameless liar”? I’d rather the latter, thank you.

As well as being a tax convict, Dave King sat on the Rangers board for a decade as it spiraled towards liquidation. He sat on the board which failed to make provisions for the HMRC tax case – and it was this specific failure, not the tax case, which led to the club being sold to a liquidation specialist for £1.

He campaigned relentlessly against newco, oft repeating his vision of ‘competing with Celtic’, while many of us considered the club should prioritise paying its bills and living within its means.

It seems certain that at some point between now and Friday he will be in de facto control, although his eligibility as a director appears doomed, should rules be applied.

Some will celebrate whenever Mike Ashley’s men depart the scene, but this is in keeping with their many earlier celebrations. Here’s a prediction for you: go back and read what the LibDems said after their people got into cabinet. ‘Once we saw what was under the bonnet, it became clear we couldn’t do what we wanted to do’. I reckon you’re going to hear a version of that in the months to come. Even today, Dave King has no idea what Mike Ashley has left him. All we really know is that the representatives of one very wealthy man are about to leave the scene.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket to the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13th March. If you would like details, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

I remember you saying you hoped we would not get Roy Keane because you there was a Norwegian guy you hadn`t heard of yet but he was a better manager than Jock Stein, Brian Clough and Jose Mourinho combined…….or have I got that wrong?

  5. Tic had a wee bit of a mental block in the first half, naturally with an away loss in the EUROPA cup, but got back to the business side of the game in the second half, aberdeen where blowing it out there arses half an hour to go, there are not to many players around as fit as Celtic, apart maybe Barca.

  11. Ronny was our PLG.

While the Gers players hated PLG and all he stood for, eating correctly, extra exercise, healthy living, with all the media pressure, which the fans bought into, Mr Murray backed his captain and sacked him.

We stood by him and had confidence to give him more time.

Would we have done this if we were second in the league, 10 points behind, with no games on hand. We will never know.

Adam Johnston (Sunderland) arrested in connection with sexual activity with a under 16 year old girl.

  13. The reality of Ronny’s reign is that the results prior to the Holiday in Gran Canaria were not good. We were brutal in Europe and had dropped as many points in the SPFL as we had in the entire previous season. Many including me were worried, some may have called for his head and ok that would have been premature. However I feel all Celtic Supporters wanted him to succeed and all are rejoicing in both the results and quality of the football being played since the team returned.. Point scoring on who said what is childish, look at any live updates blog, someone posts “Hook Kris, he is a waste of a jersey” cue Kris scores a screamer 2 minutes later. I doubted Ronny, I’ve been proved wrong and I’m thrilled about it.

  14. Guidetti reminds me of Bram K, a few good games and their agents have them on the move to elite clubs. Very unsettling for the players.

My younger son , Caoilfhinn is taking part in a pilgrimage this July , where he and 27 other pupils from his school are taking 14 physically challenged children with them to Lourdes . Not just them , obviously – there will be staff as well but the children are responsible for the welfare of their ‘charge’ for the duration of the pilgrimage – it’s a lot of work for young people to commit to and I’m proud of him and his classmates .

In order to raise funds , he’s taking part in a leg wax – I know – but kids , what they like ?

No excuses for calling for the head of Ronny. It is a hunnish mentality which lacked basic intelligence.

Good to see so many on here supporting Ronny. Let’s all hope it continues even if we don’t win the treble. Let’s be honest and remember back to Murrayfield and I don’t think many would have foreseen talk of the league, never mind a treble.

All of this great football with only 1 striker on the park… who would have thought it?

We shouldn’t have been playing there.

  22. Winning the Championship and one of the cup competitions will be a great start for Ronnie’s managerial stint at Celtic. Probably good for the SPL. If one of the Cup competitions went elsewhere.

No bother at all. Yes, I have been living in Oslo for nearly 4 years now – might be time to change the moniker, eh.

The big Copenhagen boat is fab – you leave Oslo 4.45pm and just sitting in one of the bars on the top deck is magic, watching the scenery slipping by before going down to dinner – the food is a self-service buffet but it is first class, super-fresh seafood out of this world, and a big carvery.

Me and the Ghirl got a passage and a cabin, dinner included, for about GBP80, mind, that was a couple of years ago. We flew back to Oslo from Copenhagen, which is cheap and only takes an hour or so.

Alternatively, there are a couple of boats that do evening dinner cruises from Oslo round the Oslofjord for a few hours.

As I say, let me know if there is anything I can do mate, and will be glad to meet up for a Ringnes or two when you are here.
