European football forever shocks, never more so that when Hibs and Hearts eliminate two teams you have heard of. Rosenborg’s star rises and fades with the clock, but they are still vastly more experienced in Europe than Hearts. Coming from two goals down in the tie to win last night was an heroic result.
The ground under Easter Road has been rumbling since the season kicked off. Defeats in both league games to St Mirren and Motherwell, on top of the away loss in Andora in the last Conference League qualification round, suggested Hibernian would lose to Luzern, with Lee Johnson packing his bags before the Festival ends. If he could win next week’s home leg against Aston Villa, they would erect a statue to their diminutive manager – or maybe a life size figurine.
Tottenham’s Irish hero from the 50s and 60s, Danny Blanchflower, once said, “We aim to equalise before the other team score”. It’s a brilliant quote and I forever see echoes of it as teams prepare for a loss. They look for an easy headline, something that shows them on the front foot, before an impending defeat.
For evidence, just look at the headlines Newco have made for themselves this morning. They’re all ‘demandy’ – for tickets to Celtic Park, proffering faux grievances. 700 tickets is not a safe allocation for these games, I have been there and can testify. That lot really need to take crowd safety more seriously.
7,000 is the correct allocation. 700 is an arbitrary nonsense. If forced, I would offer 19 tickets, nine each representing our two nine-in-a-row campaigns and one for our European Cup win. Let 19 of them honour Celtic in this unique way. I am being ridiculous, of course, but they started it.
All we need to see a resolution here is patience. When I first started going to Ibrox, Rangers were rubbish and Celtic fans were welcomed at three sides of the stadium. The Broomloan Stand, half the Standing Enclosure, a third of the Main Stand and the unsold part of the Govan Stand. You can see the stars aligning again!

1) We gain almost £1m on 10 year co efficient ranking by Zagreb losing.
2) Robust rumor suggested the Zagreb GK is a signing target and a deal is close to conclusion subject to Zagreb exiting cl play off.
3) Possibility (not confirmed) Huns drop to pot 2 seed in Europa meaning a far harder draw for them should they lose to PSV. Eg Liverpool or Ajax or West Ham all in Pot 1. Harder games for our likely domestic rivals feels like a good thing to me.
@Burnley …Wow now that’s what i call a result…
Cheers for the Info……

What is wrong with the statement “Rangers Fight Back Against Morton to Reach Quarters”?
Surely that pays tribute to Morton. No?
Also, Celtic v Morton at same stage in the same cup last season was live on the same TV channel.
—————
Rangers fight back! If that was us, we’d have edged past a plucky Morton team with a debatable penalty decision in our favour, which would be dissected to death!
I get you don’t buy into the whole, ‘we are treated differently’ argument and that’s your prerogative.
Although, if you haven’t noticed the disparity in the BBC headlines and reporting for our games versus the Huns in their games, that’s fine. I have.
They big up shitty hun results, whilst downplaying some of our good or decent results. We ‘struggle’ past teams at 4-1 away, whereas they ‘cruise’ past or ‘sweep them aside’ 3-1 at Ibrox.
Didn’t realise our same fixture was on live on the BBC last season. Fair dos.
However, can you point me to when the BBC have televised any of our CL qualifiers please?
Drambowie
It is confirmed that if they lose to PSV the will be Pot 2.
Far harder Thursday night games in prospect.
Roma, Marseilles or Brighton, and Toulouse (drew with PSG tonight) or Kazakhstan or somewhere like that.
No Teddy Bear picnics and a tough recovery after a Thursday game.
All works for us domestically.

1.As originally asked This year or next, show your working
2.With Zagreb now out, might not theur keeper still stay with them
3.How or what the cheating hun do? i have no interest in.To me B78 its an extension of your Allan Mc Greggor testimonial fixation, full stadia and 4 preseason(pumpings n draw) as it turned out.whereas we were not sellin out J.forrest testimonial,it just reeked of what are the huns daen B78.
And yeh it is my perogative,we get ourselves set for CL and god willin get a few more positive results than last year we dont need to worry bout them, hopefully they will be in a different tourney.
Lets take that standard as Champions and advance it.just like the Celtic i was reared on.
Re Killie,i agree with most of what you say,but my belief in Celtic is that they are their to win, setting their own standards and advancing Scottish football as a whole, based on that winning DNA,Its been with us since 1887,its winning thats important, this w/e in cup or last in league
HH
I want the Huns in the Europa … not just because of the CL money … chasing our tails will put pressure on every game, I don’t think Beales Boys have the bottle for chasing the champions
The scenario for Europa mentioned above for them assumes Ajax beats ludogorets and Zagreb beats Sparta P.
@Burnley…10.40 This news keeps getting better…lol
This could mean their league games are played on Sundays??.Playin catch up……
We all know how that feels…Cmon PSV….Intae Them…..

For those that haven’t seen Chris Nolan’s Oppenheimer, I would recommend the ‘Oppenheimer’ drama presently on BBC4, and on the BBCi player. A seven part drama, originally shown back in 1980, covering the same period, characters etc but with more time to do it. Sam Waterson is very convincing as Oppenheimer himself and many of the other key players of the period, Teller, Groves, Fermi et al) are very well portrayed. If you are not familiar with the Manhattan Project this is a good introduction to it. Not to mention being great drama. The technical advisor to the TV dramatisation was Prof. Joe Rotblat a Physicist who both worked and left the Los Alamos site in the 1940s, later winning the Nobel Peace Prize in the 1990’s. Worth a catch up.

I would say the period from 1920 to 1964 was a dark period where we certainly didn’t progress ourselves or football in Scotland much.
A couple of exhibition trophy’s and a handful of league and Scottish cup wins over 44 years.
Unlike you I don’t think we are an island. I do think our opponents strength and weaknesses can reflect on how we perform and the pressure we are under.
Best example is the folk on here who moan when we play after them each week. Scoreboard pressure it’s called in cricket. Most sportsmen would acknowledge it.
You clearly view it differently. Just as you seem to think it’s similar to my comment on pre season attendance. It clearly isn’t in my mind.
As before and always I will avoid being personally abusive to you.

We are at cross purposes
The cash for Co eff is this year.
The Pot 2 or 1 Europa thing is this year assuming Ajax and Zagreb win their next games.
Hope that makes sense.
Winning tomorrow is vital for me. We agree 100% on that. We have a decent recent record there apart from game 2 of 20/21 season.

A Thursday return trip from Kazakhstan or even Galatasary is a beautiful thing.
Watching the Spurs v Man Utd game earlier
Trying my hardest to dislike Ange … and failed
Wife sitting laughing at me saying you don’t know whether to be happy or raging … just as Ange was about to be interviewed I more or less said what he was going to say …
But in the cold light of day I was raging when Brendan bolted … now delighted he is back … from Tommy Burns, Wim, big Tony, loved Ronny and obviously Neil Lennon … I think it’s very difficult to not like a Celtic manager … Ange … bolting gave us Brendan the bolter back …
The point is .. best of luck Ange and Brendan is the future … for hopefully a few seasons
Re tomorrow
McInnes hi press worked v Huns.
For me tomorrow we might see more direct play and route 1 early to break the press and buy us more space to ease into the game.

After winning the SFL title in 1921-22, our sixteenth, the Celtic Board sacked our reserve teams, on cost grounds. We still had occasional successes leading up to 1939, and the biggest support in Europe, but the roots of our post WW1 decline lie right there, eclipsed by the likes of Airdrie and Motherwell, and others. Then Jock came out of the mines.
Good night all. It’s been a very trying day. 😉
Aye. Log in . Needs a post to read back

B78-I would say the period from 1920 to 1964 was a dark period where we certainly didn’t progress ourselves or football in Scotland much.
AT-was talking of today b78,,this year 2023,as champions, with a different bit of luck than last year,we can advance,i didnt mention your time periods, i forwarded the idea we have a winning and competing to win mentality since we left tge hall in 1887
B78-A couple of exhibition trophy’s and a handful of league and Scottish cup wins over 44 years.
AT- We had a lean spell, how much of that was Celtic not being managed properly? Celticmac points out an example, according to my long dead uncles the Coronation cup advanced the name of Celtic, but other outside factors, too, saw us deteriorate,Primrose Ure taking the cheating hun into Masonicism,oh how that became relevant in 2012,even today some are content with the newco narrative insread of new club.i take the latter truth, you feel free to ‘tupe’ over whatever you wish.
B78-Unlike you I don’t think we are an island. I do think our opponents strength and weaknesses can reflect on how we perform and the pressure we are under.
AT-where do you get this we are an island nonsense from? Am just a realist mate,is it because of the parochial wee league we are in?
I am a realist as i thought as a kid we would never get integrated into another countries league(england),it was total fantasy in 2003 and it is outright cuckoo now.every country now is a feeder to the epl, well hope to be if they have the correct transfer model.
B78-Best example is the folk on here who moan when we play after them each week. Scoreboard pressure it’s called in cricket. Most sportsmen would acknowledge it.
AT – its a blog, let them think or post what they want, most professional sportsmen will deal with,be coached to deal with that game that is in front of them, same old Celtic always winning, imo.ie to augment my point in post above if we look after ourselves, day by day, game by game, why be fixated with what tbey do.
B78-You clearly view it differently. Just as you seem to think it’s similar to my comment on pre season attendance. It clearly isn’t in my mind.
AT- You have a propensity to overworry, fret and fixate about you know who :-)) as i say we look at all aspects of our game, keep working hard to improve and get a little better,we can look over to them as winning is all the sweeter knowing what we are up against on and off the park.
B78-As before and always I will avoid being personally abusive to you
AT- Where have i been abusive to you?
I was when you slurred and stereotyped other Celtic fans as cokeheads.i admit that openly and honestly,i got banned for a day or 2,few weeks back while your post is probably still there.
We get enough of similar stereotyping from outside without demeaning and dehumanizing our own fan base
Anyway, must finish a bit of work,
Enjoy the game and defend our treble

I’ll tell you right now……if Spurs manage a win, and Ange walks to their fans fist pumping his chest, I’ll phone every fan to tell them not to fall for his crap. I know I’m in the minority here but I hope his team get PUMPED

I get you don’t buy into the whole, ‘we are treated differently’ argument and that’s your prerogative.
How can you make such an assumption from one comment? I merely questioned what was so bad about the BBC line “Rangers fight back to reach quarter-finals” and suggested it complimented Morton by emphasising that Rangers had to fight hard and come from behind to win.
Didn’t realise our same fixture was on live on the BBC last season. Fair dos.
It wasn’t. It was on Viaplay, as was Rangers v Morton yesterday. You need to get the BBC out of your head. 😉

Ah right. My man didn’t name a club. Just said Championship.
Interesting.
Spurs’ Brazilian striker Richarlison was absolutely raging at Ange for hooking him on 70 minutes last night. He could clearly be seen pointing at the manager and mouthing obscenities as he sat among teammates on the bench.

Who asked you anyway?
I beg your pardon, I nevera promised you a Kvistgaarden . . .

Agree with that line-up except — Holm in place of Turnbull.

Yer up early this morning.

Forgot about Holm … yip, get young Odin in,
just think that Brendan is “managing” Turnbull as he is probably more of a goal threat …
Good morning CQNers across the Globe from a very mild, calm and dry Garngad.
