Faux grievances, summer shocks

478

European football forever shocks, never more so that when Hibs and Hearts eliminate two teams you have heard of.  Rosenborg’s star rises and fades with the clock, but they are still vastly more experienced in Europe than Hearts.  Coming from two goals down in the tie to win last night was an heroic result.

The ground under Easter Road has been rumbling since the season kicked off.  Defeats in both league games to St Mirren and Motherwell, on top of the away loss in Andora in the last Conference League qualification round, suggested Hibernian would lose to Luzern, with Lee Johnson packing his bags before the Festival ends.  If he could win next week’s home leg against Aston Villa, they would erect a statue to their diminutive manager – or maybe a life size figurine.

Tottenham’s Irish hero from the 50s and 60s, Danny Blanchflower, once said, “We aim to equalise before the other team score”.  It’s a brilliant quote and I forever see echoes of it as teams prepare for a loss.  They look for an easy headline, something that shows them on the front foot, before an impending defeat.

For evidence, just look at the headlines Newco have made for themselves this morning.  They’re all ‘demandy’ – for tickets to Celtic Park, proffering faux grievances.  700 tickets is not a safe allocation for these games, I have been there and can testify.  That lot really need to take crowd safety more seriously.

7,000 is the correct allocation.  700 is an arbitrary nonsense.  If forced, I would offer 19 tickets, nine each representing our two nine-in-a-row campaigns and one for our European Cup win.  Let 19 of them honour Celtic in this unique way.  I am being ridiculous, of course, but they started it.

All we need to see a resolution here is patience.  When I first started going to Ibrox, Rangers were rubbish and Celtic fans were welcomed at three sides of the stadium.  The Broomloan Stand, half the Standing Enclosure, a third of the Main Stand and the unsold part of the Govan Stand.  You can see the stars aligning again!

All their new players have exaggerated sums attached to them. When their accounts are announced then its transparent they were talking pish. The media doesn’t mention it again !

It was ever thus, the originals and the Tribute act, back of an envelope economics

  3. The BBC front page article on them beating Morton 2-1 at home with the help of a dodgy penalty says:

‘Rangers Fight Back Against Morton to Reach Quarters’

I’m not even joking. They obviously fear being banned from the crumble dome again and are sucking up to them big time.

Also, how many of our home games get shown live, cup games, European qualifiers etc?

Hardly any is my guess. It just shows how skint they are, that the BBC and others are showing loads of their games live to get them some extra cash. Happened before when they were on the brink and I reckon it is providing them with some emergency cash.

Let’s hope PSV smash them on Tuesday, we beat them on 3rd and their season is all but done!

Should be some bear on bear action at their ground and their rancid online fan forums once they realise the gig is up and Beale is a fraud. 😂😂😂👍

What is wrong with the statement “Rangers Fight Back Against Morton to Reach Quarters”?

Surely that pays tribute to Morton. No?

Also, Celtic v Morton at same stage in the same cup last season was live on the same TV channel.

  5. I’ll tell you right now……if Spurs manage a win, and Ange walks to their fans fist pumping his chest, I’ll phone every fan to tell them not to fall for his crap. I know I’m in the minority here but I hope his team get PUMPED

  6. Spurs just avoided a penalty against them, after VAR check.

100% a penalty if that was against us – not so much if it was Goldson.

I hope you get a ticket, would it be worth the risk to travel down early as you may bump into Celts who have a spare.

    Good luck anyway.

  8. C’mon Tom

    What’s your take on it?

Remember him saying “ The fans shouldn’t get to attached to their favourite player because they might not be here next season” or words to that effect.

Meanwhile, he’s colluding with Spurs to move on himself. Seems like he was deflecting attention away from himself

  9. I’m neutral on the outcome (indifferent) but agree with Connaire on no-angeball and 31003 on Man U being easily the better side.

  10. Tom…I saw the humour……but I can’t be the only one who wants to see Anges team fail….or am I?

In 1957 in the famous 7-1 game.McPhail scored a hatrick.

Query is 1951 goalscorer is that a family member?

Mass here in Prestatyn is 4.30 so went in when it was 1-2, came out it ended 2-3, so great result away for Vale.

Only got our youngest grandson this weekend – enough to handle.

Nope me not me either , definitely didn’t hear Brendan ‘shoot down’ the Daniel Podence link.

Not outwith our means if we can get his wage demands to a reasonable level.

Watched the first 15 minutes of the Spurs game while cooking the tea, not Angeball as we know it!

  15. RonBacardi at 3.35 .

My mate (ex Salsburgh) said there was a dug in his street called Celtic .

In the old days , when dugs were allowed “out to play” on their own , the owner used to shout “Celtic” down the street , to call the dug in at dinner and bed time 🤪

  16. Do I want Ange to do well ???

Sort of … Sort of don’t

    Ange gave us

    And has even delivered

I hope you’re wrong because if that’s truly what’s happening at Ibrox then at the end of the season the board will need to replace the “worlds most successful club” banners with the “worlds second most successful club” .

The banner should be down anyway. It’s actually a riddy we have it because it’s not true by any metrics.

Who mentioned anything about accepting mediocrity?

The team needs support, not abuse, and buying a ticket does not equate to an entitlement to see a winning team.

They’ve won 11 out 12 leagues 5 trebles in 7 years and will probably overtake us on trophies this season or next of course the fans are uptight we’ve blew it since winning 55

  19. AND ANOTHER CRACKER, THE BERZ ARE TRUELLY REVOLTING

    —————-

    We’ll agree to disagree then.

Too many doom mongers in our support who shite the bed at the first sign of trouble for me then take pleasure in saying things like, ‘I knew it wouldn’t work out been saying it for months’. We seen it on here with every manager since McCoist. A large % of fans wanted rid of SG the season before 55 then ironically heralded him as the messiah when he delivered. The most bi-polar support in the game.

The reality is our club stature, size of support & expectation is bigger than what we are financially capable of now. We’re spending peanuts in the grand scheme of things in footballing transfer market and expecting world beaters to emerge instantly. It’s completely unrealistic.

Reading posts on here calling for Beale’s head after 1 competitive match because it didn’t go to plan – this is ludicrous and entitled but that’s a section of the Rangers support for you.

Or maybe it’s based on last season as well. A cup final and cup SF defeat to them. Blew the chance of putting pressure on them as well with another bizzare substitute. I get what you are saying but this isn’t his first competitive game either. Apart from the dead rubber v them I’m struggling to think of a single game where I’ve thought we’ve played well over 90 mins since he came in. Flashes here and there, yes. But this narrow pish he is percivering with will see us get a proper scudding sooner or later. The Kilmarnock game as well. It was the exact same movie. Fans aren’t stupid for the most part. We are sick to death of the slow plodding football. It can’t just be the players. Ross County has got banana skin written all over it the way we are playing.

Look we all love Beale for his role in getting us 55. We are all desperate for him to succeed, desperate. The red flags are starting to really mount now.
