First, there was faux outrage that the Celtic – Aberdeen game later this month was not on TV. Now, the sights have been trained on Celtic, who reserved their right to have five, instead of seven, home games shown on live TV.
Sky Sport can broadcast up to five games from any ground. This is designed to allow two visits each by Celtic and Newco to the one venue, while permitting, for example, one Edinburgh derby. Sky also have limited TV slots and had to nominate games for this month early in the season, when Aberdeen were considered unlikely to be joint top of the table.
Premier Sports offer £75k per game, if a club wants to allow up to two additional home fixtures televised. That’s about £1.25 for each spectator who would be inconvenienced by the Celtic – Aberdeen game moving to an ungodly hour on a Sunday. Football is a live action sport in Scotland, this status must be retained. League rules and Celtic’s decision are both helpful to the fans who pay money to turn up, week in, week out.
It is interesting that reports suggest only Celtic rejected Premier Sports offer of £75k per game. I can understand Ross County being keen on the extra cash, but Newco too? The economic interests of Celtic and Newco often align. They have similar sized fan bases and the extra cash would be paltry compared to inconveniencing Newco’s season ticket holders.
Perhaps the need for cash is more acute than we imagined. A club without a permanent chairman, without a chief exec or a head of academy, is apparently soon to be without a head of football operations. All we know for sure is that the previous incumbents of all of those roles have seen under the bonnet of Newco and are not hanging around.

That’ll be Wednesday then!
In English, the name is derived from Old English Wōdnesdæg and Middle English Wednesdei, ‘day of Woden’, reflecting the religion practised by the Anglo-Saxons, the English equivalent to the Norse god Odin.
He shoots!!! 😃🍀🇮🇪⚽️🏆
Off the post! Aipple in there again. 😂😂😂👏👏👏👍

😂 The Lance Armstrong of CQN podiums! 😳🤷🏼♂️😂😂😂
If it was 250k,we would be playing at 6pm on a Sunday night
Lance Armstrong autobiography is unironically titled “It’s Not About the Bike.”
No shit sherlock.
The quicker the new club dies the better tbh. Sure as night follows day, we’ll see a Rang3rs, but reckon a lot of their fans will have chucked it by then anyhoo and they’ll never cut their cloth accordingly.
It is just not in their DNA. That means we’ll probably see a R4ngers, Ranger5 etc etc.
Whilst the Celtic juggernaut continues to gather momentum and improve for Europe.

non fitba post, just a wee socialising
i visited chicago on a number of occassions on business, an amazing city of architecture.
the company i worked for occupied the merchandise mart and the gigantic building owas the worlds largest when it opened in 1930.
the roof is 100 metres / 300 feet tall.
as part of an advertising campaign the company would drop their latest phone from roof to pavement to prove the shatterproof screen capability.
i got to do this drop test and then got to keep the phone a truelly memorable day.
i then got to visit the development lab where magnetic back plates were customized for me to my chosen celtic designs.
i had 3 interchangable plates which became a great ice-breaker for meetings as everyone commented on ther celtic themes.
this shatterproof screen has been with me now for years, i love the phone, a thousand images and videos of celtic gasmes and family memories.
while moving plant pots yesterday listening to the celtic exchange, the phone fell out my pocket and hit the edge of the ceramic, it fell 10 inches.
no worries for my indistructable phone.
except it cracked right at the on swith, whole thing is busted,
i am gutted.
so help needed.
without my phone i cant get the whatsapp messages.
can anyone tell me the details of fridays meeting point for the steak dinner ?
ta.
Interesting we have a figure of 75k mentioned for a tie on premiertv for a league cup semi final.
Can we have the figure for league games, home or away Paul/anyone?
We,as fans/fodder to the tv market are sidelined and ignored way to much.
So ScLC semi @ Hampden = £75,000
SPL Home league game = ??
SPL Away league game = ??
Just interested to know

Not so long ago Paul67 was telling us that the latest Sky Sports Broadcasting deal with the SPL and which runs now to 2029 was the only show in town. A deal which involved increasing the number of matches shown each season (and the concomitant disruption for the supporters who actually attend said games) and which replaced a previous deal which had not yet run its’ course. Turns out it was not the only show in town and Neil Doncaster was soon announcing a further deal, with Premier Sports, to show even more SPL matches. Turns out these games have been sold for as little as £75,000 and could have included a top of the table clash between Celtic and Aberdeen in ten days time. Well done Celtic FC in drawing the line on a deal, which only reinforces the importance of us playing in the new version of the Champions League and our broadcasting share thereof, because to quote Willy Sutton, “Thats where the money is”.
St Stivs
The theatre show got cancelled yesterday, but several of us are still meeting for steak and chip at innit and gunned in Ashton lane for 4.30,after that some of us are going a toddle around the west end.
Some have dropped out as the play will be rescheduled.tried calling you there it rang out
Stay in touch

“It’s Not About the Bike: My journey back to life” was a first hand account of one of the greatest sporting stories ever that inspired countless cancer patients all over the world to never give up. That included my sister who, in 2006, was trying to beat a battle with melanoma. She lost that fight but she was massively inspired by the LA story.
As we all know now, LA went from a sporting god to a sporting fraud after eventually admitting to his doping regime and few will forgive him for it.
The real shame was that his cancer survival story was true and truly inspiring for millions of people but that was all lost due to his lies and deception. He thought his story made him untouchable and emboldened him to cheat without fear of repercussions. He was making so much money for the cycling industry that no one wanted the story to end. Nike, Trek, Oakley, the UCI, the organisers of the TdF all knew he was generating massive wealth for them. Cycling magazines knew if they had him on the cover sales rocketed. He turned millions of people into cycling fans and many others to take up cycling.
The crazy thing was that pretty much of all of his teammates and rivals were also doping but outside of cycling, few people understood that or wanting to accept it.
A very sad story of how we can be deceived because we want to believe in heroes and the goodness of people.

Re. Jim Craig’s article: Was it not the No. 64 bus that went from Dalmuir West to Auchenshuggle? I am sure it went along Dumbarton Road, Argyle Street past the Art Galleries, then along London Road, passing the front of Celtic Park.

Article reminds me I once went to an exorbitantly priced Vietnamese restaurant for bowls of clear broth and when the bill arrived, I was in full Pho Outrage…

AT; I think ‘Innit and Gunned’ sounds like a hard rock club imbued with sexual innuendo. The kinda place I woulda loved as a young buck.
Celtic won’t complete the redevelopment of our stadium as they are unsure of the lasting demand for an 80,000 seat stadium.
I am sure if there was no TV then we could fill an 80,000 every game.
£75,000 per game may be a lot for Ross County but it’s nothing in Celtic terms. 20,000 extra seats would ensure £ 6m + per match. £120m before costs per season
Sorry maths a bit off but principle remains
If any clubs moan, then they can give us more tickets for the thousands of empty seats they have when we visit them
Still to see any thanks from the clubs who benefited by our CL qualification, £1 million plus in some cases
Yip an extra £150k for two extra home game on the telly at shite times!
Moreover many of these teams are happy to allow empty seats against us and thems, so for example 3000@£30=£90,000 🫣madness….
Oops Bada’s made that point already🙃
“Premier Sports offer £75k per game, if a club wants to allow up to two additional home fixtures televised. That’s about £1.25 for each spectator who would be inconvenienced by the Celtic –”
A few years back, Viaplay came in hard to Scottish Football, with their stated intention to bid for the SPL Broadcast rights.
Before they could – Neil Doncaster then unilaterally went and signed a new deal with BskyB
That was a couple of years back and he signed our rights away until ’29
An absolute disgrace…
Viaplay’s business plan for Scottish Football wasn’t feasible without the SPL games, so it pulled out of Scotland.
Leaving us with Premier Sports, they are the Mikey Mouse of Sports Broadcasting without Disney.
Why Viaplay weren’t allowed to bid for the SPL rights was a totally travesty in my opinion, if they didn’t win the bid by offering more – surely BskyB would have had to up their offer.
Now we have 75K for a top of the League clash while two EPL nonentities with get × 100
That’s ONE HUNDRED TIMES…
Hail Hail

Are you sure about it being unilateral ? Any deal needs the full agreement of the clubs, only the Huns who had they’re own agenda at the time voted against at it.
There was no formal tender process but that isn’t to say he didn’t try and get other bids.
I don’t get why he wouldn’t want the best deal for the SPFL which is what Sky ultimately offered
I don’t know what happened since – did Viaplay bid for the extra games?
DeniaBhoy re: Lance story
Agreed, I fist came here 20 years ago when he was doing his thing and took home a sackful of the “Live Strong” bracelets for friends.
CELTIC40ME @ 2:13 PM,
Yes maybe unilateral wasn’t the best choice of words.
What I meant he pushed forward with revised BskyB deal rather than go to tender.
Viaplay had already stated they would bid for the SPL rights and BT said they might put their hat in the ring again.
Also – Very few Celts will be interested in this but Viaplay leaving Scottish Football has left the National Team high and dry as they shift around to sell their Broadcasting rights.
Surely the SFA should join with the SPFL and try to get a decent deal for Scottish Football as a whole.

Agreed. It took over from the old No. 9 Tramcar.
I used to catch the 64 outside the Art Galleries as well. I was born and raised in 11 Yorkhill Street, in the close next to the telephone kiosk.

There was a process that included talking to other broadcasters than Sky, although it wasn’t a formal tender. Maybe he was lying when he said the process allowed for bids from other broadcasters, but he wasn’t when he said the process he used was agreed by 11 of the 12 SPL clubs and the deal was approved by all but one of the 42 SPFL clubs.
We all agreed to it, Celtic included
