First, there was faux outrage that the Celtic – Aberdeen game later this month was not on TV. Now, the sights have been trained on Celtic, who reserved their right to have five, instead of seven, home games shown on live TV.
Sky Sport can broadcast up to five games from any ground. This is designed to allow two visits each by Celtic and Newco to the one venue, while permitting, for example, one Edinburgh derby. Sky also have limited TV slots and had to nominate games for this month early in the season, when Aberdeen were considered unlikely to be joint top of the table.
Premier Sports offer £75k per game, if a club wants to allow up to two additional home fixtures televised. That’s about £1.25 for each spectator who would be inconvenienced by the Celtic – Aberdeen game moving to an ungodly hour on a Sunday. Football is a live action sport in Scotland, this status must be retained. League rules and Celtic’s decision are both helpful to the fans who pay money to turn up, week in, week out.
It is interesting that reports suggest only Celtic rejected Premier Sports offer of £75k per game. I can understand Ross County being keen on the extra cash, but Newco too? The economic interests of Celtic and Newco often align. They have similar sized fan bases and the extra cash would be paltry compared to inconveniencing Newco’s season ticket holders.
Perhaps the need for cash is more acute than we imagined. A club without a permanent chairman, without a chief exec or a head of academy, is apparently soon to be without a head of football operations. All we know for sure is that the previous incumbents of all of those roles have seen under the bonnet of Newco and are not hanging around.

My CTV feed was fine. Didn’t miss a second. When there is a CTV problem, it will likely affect us all.
As such, most problems tend to be at the receiving end.

About the Rabona, discussed here yesterday. I can’t overstate the pleasure I’ve had hunting this down (the odd nightmare too, seeing Berkovic in the Hoops…) but Morton Weighorst’s Rabona cross was indeed vs Aberdeen, 11th December 1999, it was the assist for Regi Blinker’s goal for 5-0 in a 6-0 win at Pittodrie.
Right through Jim Leighton’s legs, which were pretty bandy, so probably the best place to hit it.
We scored some crackers that night, Lambert’s opener, one of Lubo’s finest, Ian Wright’s finish for 6-0…

The news that Celtic was to become an Adidas elite team from the 25-26 season only just predated wur Dortmund dismantling so the announcement didn’t age very well ;) The substance of the ‘Elite status’ seems to mean our kit becomes ‘authentic with Heat Dry tech and a Trefoil logo (woohoo!) on our 3rd shirt.
I’d speculate that the fact Celtic fans enthusiastically buy merch in massive amounts, means we’re an elite money-making machine for Adidas. Probably less to do with being an ‘elite team’ in the footballing sense. Sadly.
Celtic TV is actually a wee drunk guy wi’ glaucoma and the shakes , filming on a super 8 camera .
The fans could buy the rights & broadcast all the games & sell the big games to the highest bidder
I think the idea behind Kit manufacturers giving bag loads of cash to Celtic,is so our fans will buy their merchandise.
WGreat deal.Nobody loses.Fans get their new strip,Celtic get megabucks,Adidas get a market for their gear.We dont have wear shit from Castore.

Grand Day To Be A Tim.
Interesting game in Sligo, maybe not a classic in the Celtic annals but a good cause and some much needed game time for some players.
The youths and Celtic B players were playing a LOI team who play regularly at a higher standard and it showed.
Thought at 17 y.o. McArdle and Isiguzo looked good.

The piece is about the process that led to the new extended deal. In it Doncaster directly responds to criticisms about the process including the lack of invitation to tender.
“Oh, everyone had a chance, so don’t be misled,” Doncaster said.
“Everyone had a chance to come forward, it was clearly no secret that we were out in the market”
Maybe he’s lying?
He also points out that 11 out of 12 SPL clubs approved of the process and 41 from 42 clubs approved the deal.
Maybe that’s a lie as well
What’s your solution to getting much more for our rights? How does negotiating a deal for the whole of Scottish football guarantee we get “much more”
It might not be an outright lie, just a bit of business bull…
This was his take on the Premier Sports deal…
…Doncaster said: “This is tremendous news for SPFL clubs and supporters alike and means that up to 80 Premiership matches will be broadcast live next season across Sky Sports and Premier Sports…
…We are extremely grateful to Premier Sports for their increased investment into the game, which will bring an additional eight-figure sum into Scottish football over the next five years, meaning further record-breaking payments to clubs.”
Now we find that Celtic v Aberdeen top of the table clash is worth 75 K
Don’t believe the Hype…

The game last night, was a good exercise for the young bhoys.

It will be great if we have a full squad to pick from for the next series of games.

I’d forgotten all about that, great goals and ahem some dodgy refereeing decisions. Mike McCurry what was he like? We were 4-0 up, the game was over and even then he couldn’t give us a penalty, Hun cheat! I’d love to ask Ian Wright what he thought about some of the refereeing decisions given against him in his short time playing for Celtic, I bet in all his years playing in England he never saw anything of the sort
Paul67 et al
I think both !!Bada and Prestonpans Bhoys yesterday alluded to the fact, paradox even, that in some cases when matches are broadcast, say on the dreaded Saturday and Sunday lunchtime slot, in front of crowds artificially restricted by SPL clubs, the total in economic welfare, (crowd plus £75,000 say), is less than it would have been had the same game, the same match, been played at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. And said coverage in front of a half empty stadium does not enhance the clubs involved, the viewing experience, or the SPL itself. Now, this is something akin to the law of diminishing returns as negotiated by Neil Doncaster. Now I do not the numbers involved in every SPL match which is broadcast by say Premier Sports, nor am I an expert in counting empty seats, but I’m pretty sure the aforementioned posters are on the money. And Neil Doncaster well…..aint.
“Tim. Derogatory term used to describe fans of Celtic Football Club taken from the Tim Malloys. Tim Malloys. An infamous 1920s Glasgow razor gang that originated from the Calton area of Glasgow and predominately made up of Irish Catholics.”
When did it become a `Derogatory term`. ???
PS The definition was from Google.

⬆️ What he said.
good murnin
TV deal is a tricky one.
Most clubs need any £75k chunks going.
One doesn’t.
Comments about empty stadia are well made. The same clubs who need that TV money don’t maximise their matchday revenue.
Some actually choose not to own it much – instead sucking on the OF tit.
Fewer clubs doing that now though (good) but some have not replaced those “hordes” with nice home supporters.
Those “hordes” by the way are paying hordes.
Solutions?
1. Cheaper tickets – more people paying same overall.
2. Fewer games on TV
3. A big signal blocker at the border !!!
Easy on paper. Isn’t everything?
PS – Celtic need to tread cautiously on this one.
The big two are fast becoming a big one.
We need alliances to drive change and transparency.
That needs brains and ambition in boardrooms across the country.
Only takes a few malcontents with funny handshakes to get counter proposals moving.
On an unrelated topic how are Stewart Gilmour, Ann Budge and Scot Gardiner these days?

Troo dat’😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I mentioned on SC or CQN (perhaps both!) The nonsense about the clamour from clubs for the £150k Premier money while refusing our fans (and thems) attendance at their grounds. EG 3000@£30=£90k
Have a look at the spending on new recruits in the last window, for some clubs the amount lost is not insignificant and would be a decent addition to potential spend.
Celtic – £69.3m
Rangers – £21.6m
Aberdeen – £4.7m
Hearts – £3m
Hibs – £2.2m
Dundee United – £900,000
Kilmarnock – £600,000
Dundee – £550,000
Ross County – £500,000
St Mirren – £400,000
Motherwell – £350,000
St Johnstone – £300,000
Source DR btw!
all those clubs decided to cut our allocations for various reasons that have been well publicised and theres nothing to suggest those reasons are going away so i wouldnt be hopeful they will change their minds anytime soon (whether you agree with their reasons or not).
it would likely be up to Sky or the authorities to make a case for how un-full stadiums affect the tv deal but im not sure how legally you can force a club to give more away tickets than they want to.
ticket prices – scottish football is ridiculously over-priced and has been for years. it should never have got to this stage, but now it has it means that the suggestion of cutting prices would lead to all the emotional financial comments from the bean counters about whaylt that would mean in terms of signing players etc its a bit like a government raising income tax to 90%, then when the next government comes in and says it want to cut it because it is scandalously high then you would get all the emotional comments about how that would mean less money for schools, hospitals etc, but the truth is prices should never have reached the level they are now considering the product on offer.
less tv games – im sure that would help ( as much as i like a tv game because it means ‘inventive’ kick off times!!)
