Federate with England or lose your talented teens

815

Celtic players’ participation in the World Cup ended yesterday as Efe Ambrose’ Nigeria were eventually overpowered by France.  Baring injury, Efe will be in Champions League duty in Iceland two weeks from today, which leaves the player little scope to rest weary limbs for the season ahead.

The fitness management of Efe and Emilio Izaguirre throughout the season will need to take a different path from the rest of the squad.  The search for cover for both players should be a priority.

It’s a pity for Dundee United, and for Scottish football, that Ryan Gauld seems on the verge of leaving for Sporting Lisbon at only 18-years-old.  United have seen enough to know they have a genuine talent on their hands, but the player’s glory years all lie ahead of him.

United will continue to lose genuine teenage talent until they, along with other aspiring Scottish clubs, get a change of environment.  If the Scottish Premiership folded into the English Football League structure Ryan Gould would remain in Tayside for years to come.

  1. only caught some of that game but fantastic what I saw,

certainly wouldn’t mind a couple of the Americans in the hoops

  2. My bhoy got the score right, pity it went too extra time to get the result.

A good game and the USA can feel unlucky. Kip time.

  4. Fantastic game once again in this WC.USA were amazing.Great spirit, and Bradley was once again terrific. What a pool of players Belgium have.Lukaku, who won them the game, and Mirallas on the bench.Tim Howard was great.Loved it.

  5. If the USA Team don’t use this game tonight as a springboard to truly launch football in the States – then I doubt they will ever have a better chance to capture a massive audience for years to come.

Because we were told to predict the 90 minute scores.

Ps I’m the same I’ve had the correct results predicted but not what they were after 90 minutes. Hope that makes some sense!

“Amazing character and attempted comeback fae the yanks…..if only it was a movie.”

If it was a movie the Team USA would have won and the pitch would have been covered with dead bodies.

That the way they do things in Hollywood…

I also believe, if the USA start to take “soccer” seriously, they will leave the rest of the world behind. IMHO. Night. :-)

………… and Bruce Willis would have come off the bench (in bare feet and torn vest) to score the last minute winner!

  13. Steinreignedsupreme on

Israel is ‘threatening reprisals’ for the death of the three kids, according to the BBC.

Having already killed at least six people. I would say we are well beyond the ‘threatening’ period.

Aye. Yer man Willis loves a ripped simmit right enough…

  15. Burghbhoy: Sorry, was watching the USA-Belgium match. Belgium deserved to win, if not for Tim Howard putting in the best performance by a keeper so far in the World Cup. And still, we would have won if Wondolowski were able to finish as easy a chance as any player has ever had. But thanx for the compliment. :-)

???: I also thought the Belgian player looked like Prince Harry …

Bradley was crap, the defense was crap. Yedlin played well. Jones played his heart out. Green’s first World Cup touch — at age 19, in his third cap, with less than 45 minutes in pro club football — was a great goal. More Green please!

The deaths of the 3 Israeli boys is a tragedy but how many of the 1,500 Palestinian children killed since September 2000 have been named in BBC reports and how many of their deaths has received the same level of press coverage?!

  21. I thought that the US right back, Yedlin, was fantastic. Thank You USA ….a great World Cup for them

  22. On holiday in turkey. Felt like half of Belgium was in the resort tonight. I was adopted as a Belgian. Prob a bit like a Belgian being adopted as a Tim for the Barca win. Nerve shredding but a great experience. Chuffed for them…..

Played with some of them this afternoon in 40 degrees. They’re a bit great on the ball. I’m a bit old!

  23. It has been a cracking couple of weeks of footy… Exciting games, loads of goals, skills, saves and drama, not too many bad decisions or controversial moments. Suarez aside not much lunacy either. But after all that how many of the last 8 are really unexpected?

  24. Delighted to hear RD say he’s looking to bring in a (or couple of) wide players. I’m a huge James Forrrest fan but when he’s injured (which unfortunately is quite often) we lack pace in the wide areas. Also we will get murdered if we play a diamond in Europe. We will need to play a variation of the 4-5-1 formation (or 4-2-3-1) where there is one central striker supported by two fast wingers who can chip in with some goals.

A lot of people would like us to buy another striker and while I’m not opposed to that idea I’m reasonably confident that Griffiths, Watt and Pukki could really improve and progress for us next season.

In addition to Griffiths, Watt and Pukki I’m really excited to see how Twardzik, McGregor, Henderson, Biton and Rogic progress next season. They might not all develop into good first team players but I’m hopeful a few will.
