FEEBLE FAILURE: ‘WE’VE NOT BEEN GOOD ENOUGH,’ KENNEDY

CELTIC’S nine-year domestic domination limped to a halt with a feeble failure during a guileless, scoreless stalemate with Dundee United at Tannadice.

Interim boss John Kennedy has now seen his dithering side score one goal – a deflection from Aberdeen’s Tommie Hoban last weekend – in two games in charge since taking over from Neil Lennon.

The championship has now transferred across the city to Ibrox with the faltering Hoops miserably missing the opportunity to make Steven Gerrard’s side wait in their hope of ending a deacde of hurt and pain.

And the Hoops also had the opportunity to inflict defeat in the east end of Glasgow a fortnight today to wreck the Govan outfit’s hopes of going through the league season unbeaten.

But, with the monotony of repetitive bungling, they failed to take one of over TWENTY chances they carved out against today’s opponents. That’s one way of getting into the Guinness Book of Records. It’s extraordinary misfiring from a collection of players who should now hang their heads in shame.

Keeper Benjamin Siegrist will be credited with 12 saves this afternoon, In truth, 10 of them were virtual passbacks. There was an excellent tip over from Odsonne Edouard early on and a block from Stephen Welsh following a second-half corner-kick, but the other stops were routine.

Kennedy watched the bungling bunch add United to the list of Scottish sides they have failed to overcome in a wretched campaign. With a fair measure of logic, he observed: “Disappointed. Our objective at the start of the season was to get to 10.

“It hasn’t happened for a number of reasons. We’ve been champions for so long and had so much success.

“Not just in the league, but in the Cup competitions.

“At some point you will have a blip and we’ve had that setback this season.”

Kennedy, speaking to Sky Sports News, added: “We’ve not been good enough, I can’t shy away from that.

“But it’s not about giving up, not about standing back and letting someone else dominate. In terms of recent times, we’ve still been the dominant team.

“In terms of this competition, it’s not happened and we want to get back on course as quickly as we can.”
