Feeding the thousands, from Celtic to Southampton

507

News that Southampton FC have nominated Mary’s Meals as their official international charity partner is a genuine great football story, and a significant landmark for the Scottish-based charity which now feeds over a millions children per day.

Mary’s Meals were in touch on Friday with news and photographs from the fourth school kitchen paid for by Celtic Quick News readers, in Chibwata, Malawi. Since the kitchen was built, school enrolment has increased by 34% to 1226 pupils. Each day over 4,000 pupils are fed in school kitchens built by CQN readers.

The school role has increased because of the availability of a daily meal, but as well as being better fed and healthier, hundreds of pupils are now getting an education who previously missed out.  Benefits are not limited to food today, there are lifetime benefits of getting a primary education, which will help the pupils and the nation as a whole for decades.

Those of you who have put the occasional £1 into Appeal alongside the Magners’ competitions we run, or who have put significantly more than this on occasion, should be enormously proud of what you’ve achieved.  It is a stunning testament to the Celtic support.  Thanks for all your help.

Celtic have done enormous work with Mary’s Meals in the past through the Foundation but let’s hope this break into English football opens up many more opportunities for the charity.

Mark Warburton is in the frame to become the next Chelsea manager as pressure grows on Jose Mourinho.

The Blues have endured a miserable start to the season and speculation is rife that Mourinho will be sacked if the club lose again at the weekend.

A host of names have been mentioned as possible successors to the Special One, and now the Belfast Telegraph says Warburton has emerged as a serious option.

The Englishman has been a sensation by taking Scottish football out of the doldrums this season has strong connections to Chelsea having worked closely to the club when he was a trader.

Bookies have slashed odds on Warburton taking over at Stamford Bridge from 20/1 to 7/1 in today, making him one of the front runners to be their next permanent manager.

Warburton is unavailable to take over straight away, but a sizable compensation claim in the region of £5 million pounds should be enough to tempt the current Rangers board.

Chelsea have a history of appointing interim coaches after making sackings midway through a season, with targets currently contracted to other clubs being difficult to bring in but Warburton and Rangers may see a parting of ways this January transfer window.

  2. Guys I’m having real problems with the amount of data I’m using each month on my phone which I think is directly related to the new CQN layout. I’ve even resorted to turning the mobile option off when out of wifi range and not using it. Sadly even this isn’t helping.

Any advice or suggestions are most welcome.

  3. You do know some people call this place Celtic Quick Soup right?

I posted last week that in the absence of CL money, PL was already looking around for who to flog to make the books balance for 2016/17.

    HT,

go into your browsers settings . .. and disable pics and javascript.

I would install a second browser just for CQN

That will reduce your usage by about 80% using CQN.

Tell the truth your ignoring me :-)

    You and BT

  8. HT,

Clink mentioned this on Friday. I’m glad he did as I thought I was the only one.

Install a different browser for viewing cqn only. You can disable stuff to help but I find using opera mini and using their standard data saving options the easiest.

It’s not perfik but it’s much better

  17. Towards more harmonious communication……

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life…

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

“One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.

“The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

“This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,

    “Which wolf will win?”

    The old chief simply replied,

    “The one you feed.”
