Feels like time for an inquest

626

It’s been so long since we lost a goal it feels like there should be an inquest today.  A couple of mistakes in a wide position, followed by two deflections, which confused Craig Gordon, and that’s all it took.  I’m OK with this.  We’ll make mistakes and lose goals, this is one of the better ways of doing so.

Of slightly more concern was how St Johnstone match us for possession and chances created or long period during the game, belying their bottom half of the table position, some 7 points shy of Hamilton.  Ronny will be keen to turnaround this specific ill for next week’s game against Accies, but the plan for Thursday will be altogether different.

Had a great time on Friday at the Irvine CSC, a very impressive club in the Ayrshire town.  Get along and support it if you are in the area, they are doing a lot of good work.  There’s no better way to prepare for a game against Inter Milan than to listen to Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox telling you how it’s done, as they did at Irvine.

Thanks in particular to the man who put a bunch of tenners in my hand for Mary’s Meals.  What a club!

Big week ahead……

The more people going through the gates the better , our football needs bums on seats, if the majority are Celtic bums so be it, killie only give us 1 end , but they are 1 club I don’t want to benefit from the Celtic pound, they would prefer the sevco £££’s

    ——————–

killie give us 2 ends if we want them but these days we only take 1 end of tickets off them because we know we wont sell 2 ends

i agree about bums on seats etc, and it doesnt look good as a spectacle

but as i said, their clubs, their choice

The flower of Scotland is a good anthem…if played in tune and then let the support sing, like what was witnessed today.

I’ll be flipping back and forward between the rugby and the sheep.

FOS is a poor national anthem the words are basically fighting for your wee bit and glen, and fighting an English king. It’s hardly bigging up your own nation, it’s singing about being small and downtrodden. Anthems need to be uplifting either by tune or words.

Flower of Scotland is a dirge as is GSTQ. The other 6 Nations anthems are very inspirational. I would like something like Runrig’s version of Loch Lomond with appropriate words for the nation.

  9. exslaemuirbhoy,

when we talk about standing sections, to bring fans back, i like it when clubs actually fight back a wee bit , such as sain johnstone letting more celtic fans in.

segregation in scottish football stadiums is over the top, and most teams would benefit from pay at the gate turnstyles.

i would have wnet to firhill on wed if that option was available.

its crazy there are empty seats that cant be sold, its a mystery to me.

sevco not selling tickets to hibs and hearts.

home teams that play us having empty stands

even us unwilling so far to give aberdeen more tickets.

Regarding the question of standing at football, it would be interesting to know if House has had any say in the matter. He appears to be opposed to most things on a whim. I think that Police Scotland, in particular, House has plenty to say on issues that should be decided by government local or national.

    ==============================================================

Your point is well made – the fact that the Police now have a stranglehold over many matters is very worrying.

Banning properly designed Safe Standing Areas is not the police’s business – this MUST be a political decision, arrived at local government level and be in keeping with all Health and Safety and Construction rules and regulations.

Furthermore, regardless of any historical matters, it is Discrimination to ban the ordinary fan from having a beer in the ground as part of the match-day experience.

It is discriminatory on two fronts –

    1) The better off who sit in hospitality suffer no such ban – therefore it is discriminatory against the less well-off.

    2) It is discriminatory against Football fans only – Rugby and other so called middle class sports and activities, have no such ban.

It is Class Discrimination – pure and simple.

You cannot always harp back to the sins of past generations – if that were the case, the world would not countenance dealings with Germany and Japan.

All the away games I’ve attended to this season I have stood up the whole game , even at half time, they use safety as an excuse. Celtic Park would benefit on many fronts if we introduce a standing area again

  15. I thought the fact that we were playing against 11 industrial players on a horrendous playing surface was the reason for our less than great display.I see football from all around Europe here, and the pitches are usually fine.Holland,Italy,Spain, even Ibrox the other night was fine. Some of these teams need a severe kick up the posterior for the state of the surfaces. It is not conducive to the way we play.It was for The Saints.I hope Celtic Park is back to its previous good condition. The Dutch experiment was not the greatest.

Anyway,in past times we might not have picked up the 3 points there. We did not before on a few occasions,so we move on.

Re-read what I actually said, “with appropriate words for the nation”. Have you ever been to a wedding when this is played or listened to Runrig’s version. It might be about a big puddle but it gets everyone on their feet and the tune is very inspirational, in my opinion. I would agree that the words are not appropriate for a national anthem.

We ARE a NATION – in the most successful union of nations the world has ever seen.

We ARE free – the exercise on September 18 last year proved that.

  19. I don’t get it. With all the big TV money in English football, why is Ham v Abn the live match at prime time on Sky One this afternoon?

  20. Celtic’s pitch is also pretty poor at the moment though I’m sure it will improve towards the summer.

The SPL should put aside a fund to relay all pitches (or ultimately install artificial pitches) at all SPL teams.

  21. Paul what Bobby Lennox said.Everything is rosy through memory glasses.I watched the “Lions”struggle on this type of pitch.I was at Stirling one day when they beat us 1-0.A few others I can remember. The pitch can be a great leveler.
