Feels like time for an inquest

626

It’s been so long since we lost a goal it feels like there should be an inquest today.  A couple of mistakes in a wide position, followed by two deflections, which confused Craig Gordon, and that’s all it took.  I’m OK with this.  We’ll make mistakes and lose goals, this is one of the better ways of doing so.

Of slightly more concern was how St Johnstone match us for possession and chances created or long period during the game, belying their bottom half of the table position, some 7 points shy of Hamilton.  Ronny will be keen to turnaround this specific ill for next week’s game against Accies, but the plan for Thursday will be altogether different.

Had a great time on Friday at the Irvine CSC, a very impressive club in the Ayrshire town.  Get along and support it if you are in the area, they are doing a lot of good work.  There’s no better way to prepare for a game against Inter Milan than to listen to Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox telling you how it’s done, as they did at Irvine.

Thanks in particular to the man who put a bunch of tenners in my hand for Mary’s Meals.  What a club!

Big week ahead……

  1. 5pm news .

Watching film of ISIS fighting for control of a big chunk of Libyan coastline . 300 miles away ! In related news – Italian Navy reporting @ 1000 migrants in big rubber boats have left Libya and are heading for Sicily.

    Rugby on Cqn ???

Only people who couldn’t play fitba liked rugby…. The most stupid rule in sport “you can’t pass the ball forward” even though the aim of the game is to go forward ? As for the scrum thing, stuff that nonsense big hairy men cuddling each other while sticking the head on each other…. Not for me, cmon Ajax, got them to win with both teams to score !

  3. Rooney crashes one off the bar, lands a yard behind the goal line, play on!!

If Hamilton were to make a comeback here, trouble ahead!

  4. I watched the YouTube video made during our 8 in a row, Cliff Hanley a very perceptive man telling it like it is, there are many in the MSM who could benifet from being open and honest as Mr Hanley. Willie Waddell epitomised everything the old club stood for and the Rancid new club has inherited. Our own Jock Stein a true legend.

  5. Hamilton have actually missed a couple of chances since going 2 behind, and failed to make the most of some good openings.

All over though had that goal been awarded, as it should have been.

    Slightly echoing Gerryfaethebrig

I know rugby can be an exciting game. The players are strong and are way tougher than modern footballers. Scotland has occasionally had world class players and even come 4th in a World Cup. But is not a helluva stupid sport at heart?

and im prepared to say that to her face

  9. Referee’s assistant, who failed to award the goal, breaks with the usual halftime protocol of waiting to go in with the ref and other assistant, and sprints down the tunnel.

    Maybe he’s got the runs. . . .

  10. Rugby .

Forever associated in my mind with Wednesday afternoons at Uni and drunk out of their minds public school boys and grammar school thugs singing naff vulgar ditties whilst simulating homosexual acts to illustrate how ‘ macho ‘ they were.

Ajax 2-1, they are the best bet on the coupon for both to score & win

  13. We will cream Inter on Thursday.

    Certain of that.

    2/3 nil IMO

Tie will be over after the 1st leg.

Really confident of that, RD will have the right game plan and we have the personnel to carry it out.

    Easy

  14. Gordonesque save from Hamilton ‘keeper from Rooney.

    Could be a game changer!

Oh, and Hamilton forward just fails to get on end of cross moments later!

Every sport, including football, is at heart helluva stupid. Why pick on rugby?

wycombebhoy posted a link (22.21 on 14 feb, the match report blog) to an interesting documentary from 1974 made, I think, by German TV.

I’m only half way through it, but one perceptive observation is from Jimmy Reid – there is something lacking in a society where football is able to fill the role that it does in Scotland for Celtic and Rangers supporters. Like Jimmy, I love my football. And I agree with him.

Another interesting comment in it is an analogy from the Lord Provost of the time, William Gray, whp observed that the immigrant Irish to Glasgow were a bit like the Puerto Ricans into America, and the threatened indigenous Protestant working class community were like America’s poor white trash. Imagine trying to say that today.

Willie Waddell also says on camera that Rangers always think of themselves as number one.

    Fascinating stuff.

  16. Sheep fans singing their views of the officiating:

To the tune of “ah’m no a billy. . ”

“If the ball’s over the line,

    It’s a goal”

    And

“If yer fouled in the box

    It’s a pen”

    Hamilton down to 10 now.

    That’ll be that.

  17. prestonpans bhoys on

Collum having a belter today, sheep have the ball about two foot inside goal but not given , now sheep man controls ball with arm as Hamilton man charges into him, decision second yellow for Hamilton man!
