Last time these sides met, Celtic beat Ferencvaros home (2-0) and away (2-3). That was during the early months of Ange Postecoglou’s regime and an indicator that we were onto something special. It was also preceded by a period of poor results and bucket loads of concern for the season ahead. By contrast, Ferencvaros gave the first sign that Celtic were in trouble in season 2020-21, when the closed-door one-off Champions League qualifier went their way in August that term.
The Hungarians came through all four Europa League qualifying rounds, starting with a win at Vojvodina on 9 July, so will have overcome any early season rustiness. As well as that win in Serbia, they won in Netherlands (Twente) and Turkey (Trabzonspor), and took the draw they needed in Poland (Gornik). Last season, Trabzonspor came third, Twente came fourth and Gornik came second in higher rated leagues than Scotland. All three are in the top 11 Uefa ranking, we are 19th.
Ferencvaros had an easy run-out on Saturday, winning 0-7 in the cup against third-tier opponents, while they face the side sitting 10th in the league on Sunday. So unlike Celtic, tonight is their big game of the week. By any measure, tonight will be a tough game for Celtic. Which is good.
I do not expect all our problems to be fixed in the space of a few days, but we need a feedback loop on the changes that will inevitably be made before we go into what is our biggest game of the week. I want to see Celtic break the press, be disciplined when trying to win the ball back and, as a consequence, be less vulnerable to the counter-attack.

C’mon the Hoops let’s see a professional, disciplined display!
Ferencvaros are the strongest team we’ll have faced so far this season. We’ll need to improve to get the win.
Any win will do.

Should be a formality, surely?
If we can get 12 points in the Champions League under a “disastrous” manager, on that basis, in the Europa League with a top manager and a coach who can turn a dud into a superstar in a couple of months, anything below 20 would have to be seen as a huge underachievement?
Come on Celtic
More organisation today, more threat and let’s be more direct

For anyone who wishes to learn more about earlier rounds of ethnic cleansing by the Israeli state, I recommend Walid Khalidi’s All That Remains: The Palestinian Villages Occupied & Depopulated by Israel in 1948. It’s a forensic examination of what happened to each and every Palestinian village after 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homeland, 75 years ago, never to return.

Guys,
I do not have a great beef with the ST pricing package But why the two tier pricing between ST and general sale ?
How does this encourage non ST holding families to get in their vehicles ( in which its fuel is the most expensive for many years ) to actually go to the game.
And, any win will not do. Our supporters need to see pride, commitment and effort in spades.
Sitting in the comfort of the sofa, then I agree any win will do, however supporters committing the time. effort and expenditure need us to put on a show.
HH.
Well said AT…
Taurangabhoy, your argument doesn’t hold enough water to quench a Palestinian child’s thirst for one day.
It’s game day, but again the talk is middle east geopolitics.
However why is there never a consideration for Christians who are considered the most persecuted religious group in the Middle East, facing systematic violence and ethnic cleansing.
Just thought I’d put that inconvenient truth out there, prior to being oot.
A sidebar interest for tonight’s game will be to see who is the better winger… Arzani (ex of this parish and now Ferencvaros) or the talented but timid Seb Tounekti.

PS Tauranga; didn’t you previously say you’d desist from your gaza perspective off the blog?
It was working better that way imo.
It would be 3-4-2-1 tactical formation for me tonight
Not looking for a wonderful show so to speak we simply do not have the talent available for that kind of display
Solid professional win at home against decent Europa League opponents, this will be a class above SPFL standard
With Jota, Yang, Ox, Osmand and ineligible Shim all out, attacking options are limited
My team tonight

I suspect we will continue with the defensively weak 4-3-3
Entertaining no doubt as Ferencvaros look to exploit the gaps in midfield
Not good for the ole ticker
lets hope we carry the luck we enjoyed against Lask in the C/L Qualifier
Macklemore’s support for the suffering of the Palestinian people is admirable.
Lasting peace isn’t possible until both sides acknowledge their culpability in mass suffering and there is willingness to accept the truth.
For example.
On November 28, 1941, Hajj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the principal leader of the Palestinian national movement at the time, met with Adolf Hitler at the Reich Chancellery in Berlin.
He collaborated with the Nazis throughout the war in Germany. Al-Husseini visited concentration camps with SS officers. Recruited Bosnian Moslems for the Waffen-SS. Blocked Jewish refugee routes out of Poland and participated in propaganda radio broadcasts.
In one of his most infamous radio addresses (broadcast on March 1, 1944), he stated:
“Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, history, and religion.”
He was arrested by Allied forces in 1946 and escaped house arrest in France. He returned to the Middle East and acted as a mentor for Palestinian activists including Yasser Arafat.
Here’s the man himself,

“The textbook definition of the Holocaust is the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and genocide of six million European Jews by the Nazi German regime and its allies and collaborators.”
Holocaust Encyclopaedia.
Tragically the Palestinian leadership are implicated as collaborators with the genocide of 6 million Jewish men, women and children.
The British Royal Family’s Connection to the Nazis
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were sympathetic to Nazi Germany.
In the fifth season of The Crown, there’s a small, but telling moment during the scene when the royal family has learned of Mohammed Al Fayed’s renovation of the home of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, which he calls “Villa Windsor.” Robert Fellowes, Queen Elizabeth’s private secretary, tells the Queen that Fayed has invited her to visit. “It seems there are all manner of valuable possessions at Villa Windsor, which we feel it would be important for the Crown to have back.” Among those possessions, Fellowes shares, is “material relating to his wartime stay in neutral Spain and Portugal, where he and the Duchess were frequently in the company of Nazis, who hoped to install him as a possible puppet king.”
While the line may have been missed by viewers, it’s a small glimpse into the Duke of Windsor’s controversial history—namely, his association with Nazi Germany, which was unpacked a bit in season two, episode six of the Netflix series. In the final season, too, The Crown touches on the Windsors and the Nazis when it recreates the moment Prince Harry wore a Nazi costume to a friend’s birthday party, something he’s discussed in recent years, calling it “one of the biggest mistakes of my life.”
The connection begins with Charles Edward, the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, a grandson of Queen Victoria
Prince Charles Edward was born in Surrey to Prince Leopold (Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s eighth son) and Princess Helen of Waldeck and Pyrmont. The future Edward VII, then the Prince of Wales, was one of his godparents, and the future George V was his first cousin.
In 1900, a 16-year-old Prince Charles Edward inherited the Dukedom of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in Germany, and started going by Karl-Eduard (or, in English, Carl Edward or Carl Eduard).

Guys,
I do not have a great beef with the ST pricing package But why the two tier pricing between ST and general sale ?
——
2 reasons: 1. a reward for people who pony up and buy season tickets, and 2. an incentive to buy the 4 match package rather than pick and choose individual games.
I am not arguing for or against the actual prices, but a differential between STH packages and general sale seems fair and sensible.
56 – I assume this is the biggest troll you can think of.
I also assume you were going for 56 and didn’t quite get there – just 55 to go.
My thinking on team selection for tonight.

GP – remember, according to a few on here you’re 2nd class/inferior fan if you don’t have a ST.
Hopefully looking at the tiered pricing as a tax on inferior fans makes it more palatable.

for the avoidance of doubt, I certainly was not making that point. There are no inferior fans and a hundred reasons not to have a ST. The point I was making was a simple commercial one – businesses reward regular customers and also encourage multiple purchases. No judgment from me on any of that.

“ I do not expect all our problems to be fixed in the space of a few days”.
Indeed, it is concerning that we have problems in the first instance, but a victory with signs of improvement will do just fine.

Bhoys Town – agree 💯.
I wasn’t casting aspersions in your direction.
Amin al-Husseini was as evil as Israel’s Ben-Gvir and Smotrich are today. This Netanyahu led government needs to be swept away in next month’s elections, though there is little likelihood of that happening. It’s the Israeli people who will keep them in power.
Anyway, I’ll be there to give the bhoys a cheer tonight.
Surely we’ll be the only ones in green and white tonight…

Yes. It takes quite a lot of mental gymnastics to claim the 140 mile square area that people were ethnically cleansed into populating isn’t viable for life, therefore presumably ethnic cleansing is the solution…

I read somewhere he can play right mid as well as all across the back 4.
So I just moved him in a bit & hope for the best.

Game day.
At Celtic Park.
Bring it on.
Can’t wait.
If we play quite well or better … reinforced by a home crowd that lifts the team?
We have a decent chance of a winning start.
Ferencvaros are a “good” team, in the same way euro teams ranked across 30 to 80 are good (but not great)
If we let these good teams take the initiative, they give us problems.
Set the tone from the first minute bhoys and we’ll prevail.

Thanks! Don’t want to offend…
The club give no recognition towards overseas fans. I’m on board with general sale tickets being more expensive than season ticket holder prices, but is really beyond the wit of man to give general sale discounts to fans that have a Celtic tv sub and pay near £250 a year into the club ? Likewise fans that spend a fortune on merch, can they not get a discount ? A points based system giving access to discounts shouldn’t be too complicated to introduce.

Yes to the Ox for Sunday we need to change it up a bit.
we will go with the same 433
With the same problems as before
We may change the personnel,
we need 4 in midfield, with 2 given defensive duties to protect our centre halves
We cannot have tounetki on the pitch as he does not produce or defend
If we dont change up the formation it will be a long night again

I guess, this year’s AGM will be the first, in a very long time, that Peter won’t be holding court. Won’t be long before the next one and I hope no-one will be given the opportunity to cancel the whole event (which Peter glady did last year).

If it works tonight aye.
All this bullcrap about 60-70K Palestinians have been killed, the israelies themselves said that they want to build a camp to house the remaining Palestinian people in the Saini desert, they said this a couple of years ago, many more have been slaughtered since then, they propose that the camp will hold 600K people, now I was never very good at maths, but given there was 2.3 millions Palestinians alive before the zionists started their genocide….well you do the maths.
