Ferencvaros, the best since Honved and Videoton

310

I am old enough to remember Videoton winning at the Bernabeu and clubs like Ujpest, Ferencvaros and Honved mentioned in respectful tones, but Hungarian football did not troubled anyone for 35 years.  Ferencvaros then got the colours all lined up on their Rubix Cube last season and, as a consequence, present a more considered challenge that we would expect any other season.

The existential problem when facing four qualification rounds against comparative minnows, is that while you will be better than most, or even all, the law of averages suggest that one of them will get everything right on and off the field.  Due to their status in the game, this will be impossible to maintain, but on their day a Videoton can beat Real in Madrid.

This Ferencvaros may be the best team to come out of Hungary in 35 years, but their challenge is now the difficult second album.  The stars aligned last season but the sky is ever-changing and while they may remain a good side, it will be near-impossible for them to perform to as they did last season, by merely drawing in Barcelona, as they did last year against Espanyol.

It’s the medication that’s the problem.

No doubt Charlie nic will turn up on some radio station

  2. If Christie is playing up front tonight then surely Klimala, Ajeti and OE are all INJURED?

Normally don’t want to talk politics this close to a game but your post demands some clarification from me about my original post.

I should have said voting as a bloc, rather than block voting, when referring to the SNP, because Labour still allows free votes on major matters. Of course, there is still block voting from Trade Unions- and it is a notoriously difficult problem to overcome- Big Companies are free to distort democracy by donating many times more to their favoured party than we can raise for Labour from ordinary folk, so we are dependant upon Trade Union contributions. Sometimes that can be a force for good but it does distort the 1 member 1 vote principle, soething other parties don’t even bother about.

Blair did tremendous damage with his dalliance with Murdoch and his talking up of Thatcher. He thought, like many gradualist Labour members do, that we could appeal as a centrist party, just a bit kinder in tone than the Tories, but they can afford better PR and this approach, while helpful, could not be sustained.

Finally, the anti-semitic charges. My point about dissent is that it took our awkward squad members, including prominent brave right wingers like Tom Watson, to prevent the fog of bureaucracy from showing what was being done about this. We absiolutely needed to get rid of that strain that could not discriminate between criticism of Israel and direct anti-semitism. In the course of doing so, a few people who were not anti-semitic, Like Ken Livingstone (who was guilty of tryig to be too clever/clever) and Rebecca Long Bailey (who was not given an opportunity to apologise for her eror of fact) suffered injustice treatment.

I still trust the party to recover its ground as every nation needs a left of centre Social Democratic/Socialist Party. We are still suffering in Scotland from sharing the anti-Independence platform with Tories. It was an easy, persistant and effective smear to start seeing those 2 oppositional parties as being part of the same entity i.e. anti-Scottish, Red & Blue Tories, Paisleyites and other dog whistle insults which don’t bear a moment’s examination but, who examines when your filled with Tartan passion?

Anyways, back to the football – tonight. I reckon if Neil is thinking of Christie leading the line it is because Ajeti is not yet match fit to start and play 70 minutes and Kilimala is quite inexperienced at this level. He may feel it is safer to bring them on for the end of the match when play gets broken up.

But, I can’t help worrying that we are seeing another repetition of the Mikey Jonston, Lewis Morgan, James Forrest at CF errors that we have seen before.

    Hope I’m wrong.

  5. If Christie is up front tonight I’ll be astounded of forehead. Don’t tell me Callum’s at LB

As long as he is nowhere near Celtic tv or the virtual season ticket team.

  7. No point in panicking now, Let’s wait for the team to be announced, then those that wish to panic can have the floor.

Eddie will be a loss if as expected he is out, but we will have eleven men out there and if we don’t do anything stupid like gifting them a goal or two, we should have enough to see them off.

  8. if that is the team and I have no reason to dispute then its 4-6-0 , why do we not have trust with our other strikers , play Klimala for 60 and replace him with Ajeti for 30 mins if both not fully trusted or up to speed oh and by the why where is griff when you need him , if still unreliable get rid.

You could say that bit I couldn’t possibly comment …

Even worse was the attitude of the press / media / sporting authorities.

with Julien and ayer there is every possibility.

  12. My 4-1 was a playful part of my cheerio but let me say more seriously, I am supremely confident of going through this evening. Whether that is by one goal in ET or more straightforward I don`t know but in going through my confidence is very high.

    Definite cheerio now.

    Hail ! Hail !

  13. I’ve been texted

Barkas, Elhamed, Julian, Ajer, Taylor, Brown, Ntcham, McGregor, Forrest, Elyounoussi, Christie

Not sure where ghuy got info from.

If the rumours are true and we are going with Christie up front I fear another Cluj moment about to happen. Lewis Morgan at number 9 against sevco another disaster. Square pegs don’t usually fit round holes. Hope it’s just a wee laugh….

1 injury and we can’t field a forward, as a club?

Gonna need a bigger back to my sofa…..

  16. Ron, Think it was Brooney did the gifting last year.

You are a sad man just waiting for Julien to feck up so you can say you called it right.

If you are a real Supporter you should be putting your prejudices aside & getting behind each & every player including Julien, there will be time enough for post postmortems when the game is done.

    Cotkcelt

    Just had same message.

Fortunately it comes from a usually unreliable source.

  18. frightening that Klimala can’t be trusted to start or is Neil just playing his favourites no matter what position he plays them in.

  19. BB/Corkcelt

i would expect that means 4-2-3-1 and Ntcham in the hole and Christie at no 9

still going for 2-1 with Ntcham and Forrest scoring

  20. RC gat a grip. 4-6-0? Really?

More likely to be 4-2-1-3 with Forrest, Elyounoussi and Christie moving across the front line and Ntcham pulling the strings. There are plenty of goals in that front three.

    KTF

  21. Well, on the upside, it’s likely to confuse the hell out of the HUngarians who haven’t been preparing all week for that..:)

    Mon the effin Hoops….

  22. I’m not accepting any pish that our strikers are not match fit.

Did PAUL67 not post the other day FERENCVAROS game against us tonight would only be their 3rd competitive game of the season?
