Festival day for Celtic

328

There’s going to be a Festival atmosphere as Celtic make their home in Edinburgh for the first time tonight. With the away win already secured, and the opposition little more than tourists, we’ll see little of what Ronny Deila has in store for us this season.

Get through early, car pool, or take bus or train, and show Edinburgh what it’s like to have a great team make their home in the city.

    SFTB,

Id go one step further and say, if we have to sell FF, then we buy another goalie who will be Celtic’s No 1 goalie i.e. a straight like-for-like-replacement.

Then it’ll be up to Gordon and Zaluska to prove they are good enough and fit enough to challenge to be the No 1.

  5. A repost that is not shameless. I missed the original release by Celtic and am glad Auldheid posted this on the last thread. To actually see the names or organisations that benefitted …..

One question Audlheid though. Why is it not possible to top up an existing Celtic TV Premium subscription and retain the Premium picture? If its a question of additional cash, then I’d happily pay it. I do not want to return to the non-Premium picture. Like going from HD back to a non HD. Thanks for posting it though.

On The Overseas Season Ticket here is an extract from an article I drafted when they announced it this year.

” I’m not sure how many of you will have seen the Celtic announcement of 3rd June with the heading

    BECAUSE CELTIC NEVER LEAVES YOU

    at http://www.celticfc.net/news/5997

that provides information about the Overseas Season Ticket arrangement and costs for this coming season, but if you are a Celtic supporter resident overseas or spend much of the winter in warmer climes then you might be interested in reading on.

I will not repeat the information at the above link but when renewing (I was amongst the first to apply when I was lucky enough to be able to fly south for the winter in 2012) I was told that in this season just ended that 850 invitations were sent out to various organisations in Glasgow working in the social care field and I got a list from The Celtic Foundation of who they were and what they do. The following is a list of those organisations who were able to benefit from the OST:

    • Ballikinrain

    • Barnardos

    • Blue Triangle Housing

    • Cancer Support Scotland

    • Calton Parent Network Group

    • Coatbridge Citizen Advice

    • DASH

    • Drylaw YPC

    • East End Kids and Co

    • Geeza Break

    • Glasgow Social Work Department

    • Glasgow East Women’s Aid

    • Hopscotch Children’s Charity

    • Loretta Care

    • MacMillan Cancer Support

    • Pavillion Youth Cafe

    • PBC Foundation

    • PEEK (Possibilities East End Kids)

    • Playbusters

    • Reidvale Adventure Play Association

    • Rosemount Lifelong Learning

    • Scottish Association for Mental health

    • Scottish Autism

    • St Andrews Hospice

    • Talk Now

    • Teenage Cancer Trust

    • The Arch Project

    • The Greater Easterhouse Alcohol Awareness Project

    • The Haven

    • The National Autistic Society

    • The Outward Bound Trust

    • Unity

    • With Kids (Big Issue Foundation)

I also received a note of what each does and have uploaded that to

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B62m3ggkEX2Ra3REeHQyZGhWXzQ/edit?usp=sharing

    for readers to browse through.

On a personal level, as an ex Calton boy (or can you never take the Calton oot of a Calton boy, no matter where in the world they end up?) I was happy to see a group from the Calton got the chance to see Celtic, but I also got a kick out of seeing Geezabrek, The Greater Easterhouse Alcohol project, Rosemount Lifelong Learning, Glasgow Social Work Department named, all of whom I worked with in advising on database and other IT matters in my part time role as an IT Capacity Builder after my early retirement from full time work in 2000.

On a family level I have also experienced what great good the St Andrews Hospice does and The Blue Triangle too in a most difficult area of work with younger adults.

I am reminded in reading that list of the impression I gained over 4 or 5 years working with those organizations (and I’ll throw in The Mungo Foundation although they are not on the list) just how much they do care for the less fortunate in society, but also how much they not only depend but also thrive on being cared about themselves.

If you ever want to see the spirit of Celtic in action just visit some of these organisations at work as I was lucky to be able to do.

That takes me back to the OST and putting that Celtic spirit to work. If you live overseas and can afford the £250 please sign up for an OST.

If you already are a Celtic TV subscriber abroad on the standard TV quality subscription level at £138.88 a year, why not top up to the extra £111.12, especially if you are planning to visit home and can use up any of the 5 match day tickets that you can order in advance and collect before the game?

If you are a Premium subscriber at £179.91 then the top up is only £79.91 but for technical reasons the picture quality is at the standard not Premium level. From my rented place in Spain where Telefonica were delivering Broadband over the public telephone network that was more than adequate for uninterrupted viewing from the sun terrace.

I hope this encourages those overseas supporters who get a good broadband service and can afford the cost to sign up.

    If Fraser wishes to leave,fine.

He has served his time with us.

For me,building a team starts with the spine.

I don’t believe we have shown over the last guid few years that we would recognise a spine, except to sell it.

  7. The Token Tim

No steps further needed as that was roughly what I intended. I don’t believe Zaluska is good enough to be our number 1 and I do not think Gordon has proved fit enough or good enough yet to be number 1 so we cannot rely on this pair to see us through a season.

My only mild disagreement is that, though the bought goalie would be seen to possess the number 1 jersey, I could see that Gordon might challenge for it, IF he recovers health and form.

  8. Thinking on getting a tram from Ingliston. Anyone got a post code for the ole Sat Nav?

  9. FF will go when the bid reaches around £8m. That’ll be an £8m deal and not all up front. Newcastle are due 25% of fee (allegedly). The manger will get £1-2m to sign the winger he wants and the rest will go into the bank account as insurance against not qualifying for the CL group stage. If we qualify then another couple of million will be released to sign a striker.

Craig Gordon will be Celtic’s number 1 this season.

At his best I’d say CG is a better keeper than FF but the risks are will be can he remain fit in the first instance and then get back to his best.

If he does then we’ve done a great piece of business.

I have no beef, per se, with Dunga, my gripe is (has always been) with the CBF. In fact there’s an old welding saying (crude but true) which sums up Dunga’s appointment / liklihood (IMHO) of success – You can only p*ss with the “male appendage” you’ve got.

For me (and a helluva lot of other people here) the appointment of Dunga is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Brasilian fitba, top to bottom, is in a mess. Money doesn’t talk here, it screams so loud your ears bleed. Those in charge have forgotten that “football without fans is nothing”.

Here was/is a great opportunity for the CBF to start restructuring Brasilian football from the bottom up. Youth academy’s, progression thru U-17/19/20/23 competitions. Nurturing talent, instead of prostituting to the first fitba whoremaster who comes along.

Instead they (the CBF) appoint Dunga as National coach and hope that the gullible public will go away happy as a “hard taskmaster” has been appointed.

That’s ma (and a helluva lot of others) point.

  11. Rioskorrie

Boa tarde. Why would Dunga’s appointment appease the masses, as he was sacked for his failure at the WC in SA 2010, wasn’t he? Threw away a lead against the Dutch.

  31. Auldheid….re Overseas Ticket……

A laudable initiative, but not particularly well thought through. It might have helped had Celtic actually asked us Overseas souls what we we thought.

Celtic TV….I already have the Premium version. Why would I have to take a step down from that?

Reserve ticket a MONTH in advance? And risk a change in the actual date of the game?

Many (all?) of us prefer to attend with a friend or family member. Why would they not offer us the 5 seats in the permutation of our choice? That is, 5 tickets for one game, or 5 singles, or anything in between…….

I asked last year, if these seats gave us the right to buy a CL ticket. I got no response from Celtic.

Honestly, Celtic need to work a bit harder and smarter on these things.

Here is an example. Celtic are supposedly asking for fan input into how they might improve the match day experience. Not sure if this is the first time in 120-plus years, but it was newsworthy enough to be discussed on CQN recently.

Here in Ottawa, the new 2nd tier soccer franchise had its first ever game on Sunday. Today I received by email, a survey from the club, asking for my comments on how they could improve their match day experience.

In far too many ways, Celtic are unable or unwilling to use modern tools to engage modern thinking.

For the record, I’d love to buy an Overseas ticket. They just make it so difficult………

Agreed. We won’t get £15m but that’s what we should be asking and accepting £10-12m. Anything less and we’re not getting value for him. As you said, he’s an England international, one who would have saved some of the goals Hart let in during the WC. He’s young and keeps improving.

I’m more concerned at keeping VVD just now but would not be happy if we let FF go without getting silly money, and the amount being touted is not silly money for an England international. The market for English players may well be inflated, but it’s inflated for everyone.
