FFP, Uefa moving and competing against death wish clubs

323

The Times today report that Uefa will shortly announce Financial Fair Play (FFP) sanctions against Paris St-Germain, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Roma and Juventus.  Newco’s remarkable Europa League run, and subsequent player sales, will provide a stay of execution.  They could even announce the first operational profit in their history when accounts are published.

With football on the ropes for two years, Uefa loosened FFP regulations and announced the system would be reviewed.  Going forward, clubs will be limited in what proportion of turnover they can spend on football operations, which is a decent proxy for a sustainable business model.

Taking on PSG, Barcelona, Inter, Roma and Juventus would be a huge stake in the ground for Uefa and a win for fans of well-run clubs, who want to see the end of debt-fuelled speculative gambling in the game.  Celtic fans know more than most what it is like competing with a death wish club, intent on driving off the cliff edge, if it wins football games.  For us, it was divisive, as some wanted Celtic to compete in the spending stakes; it also cost us trophies and access to European competition.

Newco show no signs of having learned lessons from the demise of Oldco Rangers.  Although Celtic were a shambles in season 2020-21, it took cumulative losses approaching £100m to stop our title run.  Strong financial regulation is on the side of the good guys.

I expect we will touch on this again before the week is out.

I’m not happy that we’re losing so much money, but I’m glad we have got an unwanted played off our wage bill.

I and many others could see that CJ was not going to be part of Ange’s journey.

And yes, we know he had a horrendous injury but for some time now we asked the question

” Are we being played ”

It’s a shame how things have turned out and I guess we will never know the answer to that question.

    I genuinely wish hom well.

  2. No deal Brexit would need to facilitate an immediate Irish reunification without a border poll as UK government would have thrown a former colony conflict zone to the dogs.

  3. No matter what the thug was sent aff as was the talcum powder sniffer and they dropped 2 points so justice was done and he is available for RC big deal

  4. Bojo`s dad is on record as saying “We solve the Irish problem by getting on with fixing UK, and let the Irish kill each other if thats what they want?”

Stanley Johnson has said this more than once I believe.

But it isn’t now and hasn’t been for decades.

So, as suspected Lundstrom was sent off for serious foul play – red card

The SFA have reduced it to yellow card offence.

    ####

It wasn’t serious foul play. It was a cynical professional foul.

Cynicism is no more an offence on the pitch than it is in the boardroom.

……..Lundstrom was sent off for serious foul play……..

    It’s not that difficult

  12. Bojo needed votes for a winter GE in 2019 nobody played ball to help out Bojo.

Until Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn announced that a JC government would inject £78 billion `directly` into the 3 poorest areas in UK, all 3 in Glasgow.

Less than 2 days later, SNP and Jo Swinson led Libdems, hatched a plan, stabbed Corbyn in the back, and gave Bojo the votes for a freezing winter GE, with postal votes rigged and refugees multi statuses all used to block a Corbyn government.

Celtic supporters in the main voted for anti Brexit parties, and a blocked a peaceful, Corbyn government led, reunification of the island of Ireland.

2-3 days later following Celtic, these supporters would sing about “setting Ireland free.”

    It’s a funny old world.

  13. Good night all Celtic supporters, and even the non-supporting Celtic supporters, as the team needs their…………..good wishes – but winning would only generate more money for Scottish Football and they don’t want that, so…………positive energy, but they might entertain and that would also generate more money, so…………….. Maybe Big Jock has the answer?

He was sent off for serious foul play (I wasn’t aware there was any confusion about why he got the red card) , appealed, and the referee’s decision has been overturned.

‘Outcome: Claim partially upheld. A1 – Serious Foul Play; the original sanction is rescinded, and replaced by cautionable offence B1B. Recklessly trips or attempts to trip an opponent.’

  16. Every transfer is a gamble, jullien contributed much before injury robbed him and us of one and a half years of football. He moves on having left some great memories. Had he not been injuried I am sure he would have contributed more and would likely have greater resale value. 880k plus add ons including saved wages is good at this stage. Ps only celtic, jullien and the agent knows if there was a payout to end the contract. He was not in the same bracket as ajeti, barkas, big Shite etc and many more none contributers besides.

Celtic appear to be clearing the decks with just about anyone outside the core group. Over the last few transfer windows celtic have been as good as anyone could have expected.

Hopefully we can get ajeti out the door on permanent basis, Johnstone, shaw and Robertson need to get away to clubs where they can make a career for themselves or develop further. Don’t hold out much hope that any are or ever will be good enough.

‘So if you are big enough to forgive the British Empire,’

    ###

Not sure where you’re getting this idea of forgiving the British Empire from.

It’s a meaningless thing to say.

Scotland was an active and enthusiastic participant in the activities of the British Empire. On a per capita basis Scotland benefitted more from the British Empire than England did.

15% of the population of England are descended from immigrants from Commonwealth countries. 6 million people in England are entitled to an Irish passport.

The idea that Scotland leaving the UK is in somehow a means of atoning for or rectifying or condemning what happened under British colonialism is idiotic.

Does being a member of the EU require forgiving each of the member states for their histories?

I assume you are aware of what their respective histories involved.

  18. I thought that the word” Reckless” automatically made it a red?.Reckless or “Out of control”.That’s the terminology I have been reading that warrants a red.

    Tom Mc Laughlin,

Yes,I think the Ref was mentioned more than any of the players.

    Dry Boak inducing.

Still,30% of SNP voters voted for Brexit. From the Ernie book of Pick a number, any number. That’s a fact.

PS, please don’t huff or insult me, we need both our supporters and our non-supporting support if Celtic are to survive and grow – that’s what we all want, isn’t it? :–)

The British empire was 2 hundred years ago, hardly the fault of anybody on here.

Celtic putting Rangers prices onto New club tickets has been happening since 2016 and season ticket holders just suck it up.

Is the British empire talk a diversion from today’s Celtic supporters cowardice?

    Scullybhoy,

    Will you ever learn.?

Never argue with the ” Man in the Cravat”

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well, I have learnt so much from him,

    Pre-match penalty shoot-outs

Celtic supporters going to the Raith game were funding a rapist

Nationalism in the North of Ireland is acceptable because it is part of an island, but it is unacceptable in Scotland because it is not an island.

Forgive the past of the British Empire, but refuse Celtic / Scottish Football any financial support because of its past.

    The comedy never ends.

BTW note I did not use any quotation marks :–)

  24. All religion is dubious.

The bible was written how many decades or centuries after Jesus?

Who wrote all of the holy books?

    Other religions are available.

No problem. Just indulge in childish personal abuse.
