Fiasco at Celtic

458

Early in the summer I said that to re-sign Kelechi Ineanacho would be an admission of failure that we were unable to scout a player better than one who was unable to compete for 90 minutes last term.

Then we were told the manager wanted him, while hearing that it was difficult to recruit players to Scotland (which is true). Kelechi was invited back, presumably because those privy to inside info on our recruitment plans believed he was better than our alternatives.

Celtic had an option to retain the player for next season, allowed it to lapse, provided Kelechi’s agent with a ‘Player in demand’ opportunity and saw him sign for Turkish side Bursaspor. Meanwhile, there is not a whisper from Celtic. Genuine incredulity among the fans is unanswered, I can only assume because explaining would not make things more palatable.

We will speak more about the direction of the club before the start of the season, but there is plenty to be alarmed about.

Aegentina are thw first team that have failed to have register a single shot during 90 mins in a world cup final (1990). They are also the second. Argentina ate the first time that failed to rrgister a single shot on target during 120 mins play in a world cup final

Indeed. I was there in my centenary season jersey, and as a young man didn’t fully appreciate the protest, but remember holding up a red card as instructed.

I mentioned a few weeks ago, I was working at that final.

I think both teams met Thatcher pre-game, somewhere beneath the stands.

Seeing it, I expected most of my Tic heroes to refuse to shake Thatcher’s mitts – in my memory, all present did.

Seemingly tho, Mick McCarthy refused to even come out to meet her; thus avoiding an awkward f2f snub.

    Fair play to big Mick.

Mark McGhee’s managerial record has got hee haw to do him being the only honest ex Celtic hero who had the integrity to refuse to bow to thousands of dim Timmy cliques that are full of weak mugs who cannot take their heads out of Rodgers the myths erchie for long enough to see that DD was correct about Rodgers being a toxic grifter sleekitly speaking out of both sides of his mouth as he sleekitly spread unrest throughout the club.

DD appointing Nancy was wrong, but it dizny change DD from 100% spot on about the Rodgers myth.

Well done Mark McGhee for being a fearless uppity Tim.

  25. Of course there is a lot of concern about who is coming and going and that rangers are maybe doing x y and z. Lots of excitement about statements and even the dead old Scottish Coeff guy (a rangers fan btw) has let his mask slip in booting Celtic this week. Personally I don’t see many folks at the level we want moving anywhere right now. Plenty to feed off at the bottom as our rivals are doing. As they always do.

It’s all eyes on Champions League draw for us today and for the Govan team a more pressing concern is the 3rd round qualifier Europa Draw.

For us it is importAnt (as are this weeks 2nd round fixtures) to see who we may get from the draw made in 2 weeks time for our tie on 19th and 26th August. It is a full month away.

For our Glasgow rivals they are pressed into more immediate action. They will play in 2 weeks and 2 days time in the lower level Europa 3rd round qualifier. Hence their current panic need to buy and be match ready a lot quicker. That and the fact that they had many more active loanees in their squad last season.

As yet we have lost only Schmeichal Hatate and Ihenacho. We may lose more. We have signed Duran (who seems decent and keen) and will have CCV Osmand and Johnston to add to what we had for most of last season.

We will sign more for sure and we will get some decent loans in as we did before.

Our deadline is not the same as the others though. I am hopeful we can beat Dundee and Kilmarnock on grass and a league cup tie before our first big test in CL playoff on August 19. We have our first big test at a date similar to EPL and Championship start. That is a benchmark for speed of transfer moves not Rangers or Hearts who start in serious action this week or in 2 weeks.

Don’t panic cfc. Alls not well but not as bad as it feels.

  26. Loans without an option to buy suck and often have the parent club agenda foremost.

It reeks of panic, frustration, desperation and demotivates the ordinary fan who loves to see homegrown player development.

Imo, a loan without an option to buy gives out a false narrative of competence and progression.

Eg : In the big picture what did Alex Valle bring to the progression of our club apart from demoralising Greg Taylor and hastening his departure.

We nutured Valle after a difficult start and Barcelona reaped the rewards.

    Not for me.

    HH.

  27. Burnley,

So,there is no need for the panic .We have 4 weeks to get guys in for CL Qualifier !!!!!!!!.Thats sourcing them, getting them in,getting them incorporated into the team.Phew, glad you told us all this, thats a weight off everyones mind.We all know our Board will have all this sorted in plenty of time.

Oh,so,you think it will be perfectly permissable for a few ” Loanees” to come in also?..What planet are you operating from. Its not the one the rest of us have been inhabiting through countless transfer windows.

If none of this comes to pass, you will shrug your shoulders, chin up,and re- commence your adoration of the Board, and trying to slag off the ones who were correct, all along.

Once again,as in Iheanachos case,it takes only a moment to discover ,his wages at Bou4nemouth are,£ 23,000 per week.

  31. spikeysauldman on

    Turkeybhoy

i’ll give you Shakira, but that should been before the game – even Coldplay.

the hydration breaks and the half-time show turn the game itself into something completely different from what it is.

american football is all set plays. To an extent football is, but there is much more rythm involved for the good teams. All the breaks suit teams who want to spoil, interrupt cause chaos and stop passing teams. We’ve moaned for years about time wasting, palying for fouls etc etc at CP. Half time gives teams a chance to change/readjust (if they cant do it mid match). No need for any more breaks unless we want to watch a completely new sport.

  32. So Burnley…You wouldn’t have liked Just in a celtic jersey 🤔

You wouldn’t be happy if we’d signed the 20 year old captain of P Belgrade..or Jens Hjerto Dahl ?? from Norway….mind we’d have absolutely no chance of signing him as hes nearly 7 million !

    I despair
