Fifa fines. Well, this is awkward

249

It will surprise none of you that Fifa degreed the poppy to be an inappropriate political symbol for a football shirt, or to be paraded at a game. We’ve been slightly ahead of the game in Scotland, where the innocuous symbol which was conceived to raise money to aid destitute, often debilitated, former servicemen eat and live, has transformed into a symbol of pseudo-nationalism.

When you politicise the poppy you rob it of its universality. Today’s symbol is lesser because of this that those sold in previous decades. You can argue what political symbols are right and wrong if you have time to waste, but what is now beyond dispute is that in Britain, we pick and choose what political symbols are regarded as appropriate for football games.

Fifa and Uefa indulge in no such ambiguity.

Delighted at news that we will rest more players tonight. It will have the result of recharging some deflated batteries as well as giving opportunity to players who will benefit from the game.

  1. Fact I will hear more fholk discussing who and who hasn’t got a ticket for Hogmanay,at the game tonight, than I will hear about anything to do with resolutions. Probably hear even more about the strictly result.

Anyway question for the trumpets who do you see as your ideal choice for replacing the the present Celtic board ? or have the Celtic Trusteteers already got their berths booked.

    Ps Spot on Reggie

  2. Just finished work and reading back where I left off last.Twists n Turns & 9:34pm-although I don’t get all the ins and outs of Res 12,truth be told I don’t get most of it,I find myself agreeing with one poster then another, then another, And they all disagree with each other, but I hadn’t thought of our board treating the 4gents(and by extension concerned fans) like that.Until now

  3. The the Celtic board?

    Ya beauty, they’ve been liquidated!

    Ah’ll away tae the gemme!

All best wishes to both squads tonight against Thistle and St Johnstone (Excelsior,6pm).

Happy to be on the road soon to Celtic Park so, fellow Celts, travel safely through the bleak midwinter. Nothing better than watching the ‘tic.

    Celtic forever.

Go on let us in on who yer tout is at the BBC that that told you Radio Scotland MW are abandoning their coverage of the game tonight

  6. For those folk trying to get a handle on Res12 and for those using what they believe to be the case to pursue their own beliefs I suggest you make an effort to read the latest on E Tims at

    http://etims.net/?p=10577

in order to inform yourself of the events in 2011 that produced Res12 in 2013.

There is promise of a Part Two and that is because there is a lot to absorb in one sitting but unless you really appreciate what is driving Res12 then any conclusions drawn with regard to personal agendas on here are going to be flawed.

So may I suggest that rather than pursue Paul or WC for their thoughts you read what E Tims are saying on what look like the facts of the matter acording to what is known (always accepting the Rumsfeld doctrine of unknows) and ask yourself by end of the week exactly on what basis was a licence granted and why do Celtic and their shareholders not have a right to be told.

Switch you anger from The Board who may simply suffer from ignorance or incompetence to the folk at the SFA who appear to be speaking with forked tongues.

If you are really interested in restoring ethical values to the governance of our game own the issue like the Gang of Four ((c) TD67 ) have.

It’s all about what we value and that requires introspection and information to take us on the road less travelled which is where Res12 is uncomfortably directing us all.

Loved reading that. Brought many memories back. Not least of which of Dalmuir and Clydebank, where my rebellious lot hailed from.

Some of the happiest memories of watching the Bhoys as a boy in the early 70s was waiting on the Boulevard at the bottom of my street at Blairdardie for my uncle Danny to come round the bend in his bright yellow Bray Construction works van.

The back doors would spring open and I would hop in to join the mass of cousins and other Dalmuir Tims for a sing-song on the way to Paradise and the Jungle.

After the game we would pile back into the van and get dropped off in Kilbowie Road, where the adults would go to the Atlantis and we would go up to the Cleddans off-sales, where the oldest-looking of us would get pushed in the door to buy the carry-out.

  15. Was watching the Mersey derby last night and when Liverpool scored in injury time their fans went mental, we’ve all been there, a red flare is thrown ontae the pitch and a fan at the other end is huckled as he tries tae encroach the field of play.

Checked the beeb this morning and nae sign of a summit.

Don’t know why they’d be hushed and reverential. Too busy supporting the team but still clued up enough on RES 12.

  18. I’ve read back, now I understand a little.

First well done to Auldhied, Canamalar, BRTH and Morrissey for keeping this going, keeping the issue a live one.

  19. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Is it just me ?

So evidence has been provided that shows the SFA and rangers colluded to defraud Celtic of a euro income stream, that evidence has and is being ignored. So the Plc are apparently ok with being defrauded.

Yet here we are listening to people who think streaming feeds are depriving the club of funds as if it’s a problem, it’s obviously not a problem for the board so why would anyone try and use it to berate other supporters who are simply following the boards lead that it’s ok and they can well afford to let income streams be compromised, very magnanimous of the board I say and everyone should take them up on their offer by applying the Plc’s values to all things Celtic.
