Fifa, Keane, Davie Hay

755

And, they, gave us………. Davie Hay.  Enormous thanks to Davie Hay for coming onto the blog this morning.  It was great to read his responses on playing for and managing Celtic.  If you missed him, catch up from 09:44 here, you’ll enjoy it.

At the risk of commenting on Roy Keane when few of us know much about what happened last night….  I remain pleased we didn’t appoint him manager in the summer.  Very pleased.

Really disappointed at the outcome of the Fifa investigation into the awarding of the Fifa World Cups for 2018 1nd 2022, although, as I type that sentence, the reasons perhaps become clear.  As with all of these things, I’m specifically thinking about the Lord Nimmo Smith SPL inquiry here, football governing bodies ask the questions they want answered.  It’s not the independence of the investigator which is important, it’s who sets the scope of investigation.

You can get copies of Caesar & the Assassin, Billy McNeill and Davie Hay’s accounts of managing Celtic from Jock Stein’s departure until the appointment of Liam Brady, here.

  3. Driving back down here this afternoon, I realised what had been bugging me. I kept seeing Davie Hay referred to as the Assassin. Imo, he was always, as has been mentioned on here this evening as the quiet Assassin.

Someone also mentioned those he played with. To me, the Quality Street Kids were among the finest group to wear the jerseys (apart, imo from Macari, whom I never rated; not a patch, for me, on Vic Davidson).

Theft from the Louden, you say.

Never mind, the Insurance will make good the loss.

    What’s that, you say?

    The alarm wasn’t working?

    Bugger.

As ma granny used to say… you cannie eat promises, you’ll need to explain the relevance

Anyway, can’t get excited for the game tomorrow… international football is no for me.

Faither will be sitting in front of his telly shoutin for Ireland and, as he’s half-deaf, auld Betty that lives above him will no doubt ring the alarm again, thinking there’s a stramash goin on… bless them all… he’s no gonnie be happy if the wardens burst in during the game

I thought Vic Davidson and Paul Wilson were great.

My da said Tony McBride was the biggest waste of talent ever.

  7. Vic Davidson in a Motherwell jersey tormented us, he was superb, so good in fact we bought him back.

Alas he was nothing more than mediocre for us- again. But he had proven at Fir Park what a fine player he was.

You should have seen us about a month ago,Started at 2,00pm,finished drink at 5.30am the next morning, won’t say who was there, don’t want to tarnish their names (:, we had a couple of hours break for the Euro game, but it was drink all the way.Had a drink in the park too.

‘No 9 Vic Davidson’ ? We were like wtf? From nowhere…..

  10. Mike,

With regards to the term “grannied” – I was always told it meant that the player who hadn’t potted a ball (at piil) had played as bad as his opponents granny !!!!

Not sure how accurate, but it’s how it was explained to me.

    Cheers,

    BJM.

Hun media trying to get banners to wind us up at Hampden,

They might be dead, but they amuse me still from the grave.

  13. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

According to the Quality Street Gang book, Tony McBride had all the skill but not the discipline to fulfil his potential.

The book is a good read and there are contributions from other players in our squad at the time like Tony Taylor, John Gorman & Davie Cattenach for example

  14. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Turkeybhoy, that’s almost as pathetic as the Nakamura ate my dog banner they had.

Unsurprisingly, the media never had a go at them for that.

    They can’t help themselves.

  19. The agreement consolidates existing marketing arrangements between the parties and results in a more normalised retail joint venture marketing arrangement in which Sports Direct will continue to have certain advertising rights.

The way they can’t even get their racist stereotypes correct never ceases to amuse me.

  21. Nice to read Davie Hay’s comments on CQN

    Now he knows a footballer

  22. Etymology of “grannied” is best articulated by example.

The most famous English sportsman ever “grannie was Wayne Rooney.

Subtle semantic difference in England however.

  23. See who comes over the red blossomed heather

Their green banners kissing the pure mountain air

Heads erect eyes front, stepping proudly together

Freedom sits throned on each proud spirit there
