Fifa lay it on the line for SFA

264

Within a very short period following Rangers ‘success’ at the Court of Session, Fifa issued a statement intimating that while they had not yet heard from the Scottish FA, “in such a case,  FIFA will ask the Member Association to take action so that the club withdraws its request from the ordinary courts.”

If Fifa are telling the world this, they have by now told the SFA to take action to ensure Rangers withdraws its ruling from the Court of Session.

SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, has been satisfied with his hands-off approach with Rangers as this debacle unfolded but such a policy seems to have emboldened the errant club.  The matter has now been taken out of the association’s hands, an embarrassment for every office holder at the SFA*.  After receiving legal advice yesterday evening, they will tell Rangers to walk away or be suspended from football.

Rangers have yet to accept the dual contract allegation is true and, as a corporate body, continue to refuse to produce or acknowledge evidence.  They have not even considered the ramifications of Billy Dodds’ evidence given to the Sunday Herald.  They are looking at this situation through a prism of different facts – specifically, Craig Whyte did a disproportionate amount of harm in a short period of time.

The sense of entitlement at that club, combined with a still-evident failure to show contrition for the more serious offences of the last 20 years, while insisting ‘it was all Craig Whyte’ means anything can happen next.

I’ve questioned the wisdom of a few commenters on Celtic Quick News about choosing a path which would lead to the end of our club.  There appears to be no one telling the fundamentalists running Rangers that destroying a football club while insisting you are in the right is puerile, self-defeating and what your worst enemies would wish on you.

They might be right (they’re not), but self-righteousness can destroy you.

*except Campbell Ogilvie, of course. Nothing can embarrass President What-school-did-you-go-to.

Oh I’m sure you’re right. We know the company is up and running. But to run a football team it needs a stadium, etc., and it can’t now get Ibrox until the CVA is rejected and the liquidator goes to work.

Some predictable reaction from FF to the prospect of the Huns being expelled:

“The SFA Dont have the balls to even attempt a suspension or withdrawel of License.

It would create open warfare, and would no doubt end in civil disorder and very violent scenes.”

I am a man of peace (and a shit fighter!) but our vast support contains many types….if you decide to ‘take this all the way’ then you cannot go about your lives in peace…you do know that yes? You have thought about this?”

    ——

“Seriously what can they do? They can’t give us a heavier ban as that will make them even more of a joke. A year out of the Scottish cup is all I can see. If FIFA were to through Celtic and Motherwell out of Europe I think I would probably die with laughter”

    ——

    “Close us down for good?

And where would these c***s live…Mongolia?

  11. I think today we are seeing a massive sea-change in the opinion of many supporters who may mot have been of a Celtic hue.

Clearly we’ve long wanted Rangers punished to the hilt; preferably totally wiped off the face of Scottish football with all their history and horrible baggage.

Supporters of other teams have perhaps been a little more cautious – perhaps even fearful – for their existence in a Rangers free land.

Yesterday’s events seem to have crystallised minds.

The pathetic CVA offer to existing creditors, the knowledge that D&P STILL continued not to pay income tax and NI to HMRC ( so they too were using this as “working capital” since they were deduction from staff) and then their “victory” at the Court of Sessions has hardened many people’s views that these people should be run out of town.

Why HMRC have not acted yet is beyond me and. I do not want MY tax deductions funding Rangers which in part they seem to be doing.

The shenanigans of D&P coupled with the previous actions of Messrs Whyte and Murray havbe made me feel sick of heart.

I am now very firmly of the view that if Rangers exist in any form next season Scottish football can hang up a closed for business sign since I believe thousands and thoudands of fans will not support a product that has such a massive sense of corruption.

We have now reached the point when “ra peepil” need to be taken out.

Please someone; – the SFA, SPL, HMRC, FIFA, UEFA or Sky – take the first step in dealing the knock-out blow to this insidious and entitled but corrupt and horrible football club.

May also be time for Celtic to announce they will not take part in any televised football while they remain in place. Come on, PL, you can do it!

The only way that the SFA can retrieve the situation, and begin to look like a credible footballing administration organisation, is to suspend the taxdodgers from today. The suspension should remain in place until the whole labyrinth of issues surrounding the taxdodgers are resolved.

Breaking FIFA rules, accepting the transfer embargo, the dual contracts issue, licensing, liquidation/cva, once what is left of the taxdodgers has satisfactorily sorted all of these issues, come back to SFA and apply for new licence and suspension to be lifted. Should only take a year or two.

Q: In disputing the 12-month transfer embargo imposed on Rangers, did you ask the SFA if you could take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, rather than to the civil courts in Scotland?

I have no idea where that money ended up….. but think on this.

Let’s say there was an “arrangement” of some kind which leads to a payment or payments being made.

How many people would have to be involved in that arrangement?

Maybe a practice developed that spread beyond Souness to other parties, other clubs?

    Clearly something is afoot somewhere.

I have said for ages that the number that comes out of the BTC will be the least interesting thing about the decision. I think there will be matters uncovered in there that will reveal a whole lot more stuff for people to be concerned about.

Long time away..but always here. I have to say that whatever happens tomorrow, or the day after, how can anyone now support this club, which still may call itself..the RFC? It has not only broken all the rules …..but continues to justify itself by saying any, “any punishment at all is draconian and not our fault. You can’t get us because you didn’t envisage we would cheat everyone on such a grand scam”. They say “Yes, we have done wrong, but it was someone else….an individual!…They said this and they cheered on nine in a row! without caring”. For as long as I remember I have suffered from their cheating and I thought it was…fair play. We had to up our game.! Now I feel disgusted and cheated for much of my life as a football fan. I told my son, as a boy, to hold a successful moment in his head when we won the league because it doesn’t last. It’s temporary and it comes around..success that is…but cheats are cheats and cheating cheats everyone and it has scunnered me from ever watching this “carry on… football’ ever again!

I have many friends who are rangers fans…decent people..who, if they justify this, are no longer decent and are complicate!!!

  29. It’s all true you know. Some of the players at RFCia have been the subject of prejudice for years.

It is one of the most heard cries at RFCia, “what about me? Where’s my EBT?”

  30. Spartans were thrown out of the Scottish Cup because they only put one date on a players contract, rather than the required 2 signatures. They were also fined £4,000 , which is approximately 5% of their total annual income.

Thrown out, as in banned from playing in the competition for an entire season.

Compare that with the possibility of the SFA applying the same sanction to Rangers, and fining them 0.2% of their annual income.

For a list of proven offences which are growing by the day, and already are unmatched in the history of Scottish Football.

Rangers and their apologists are looking for a less severe punishment than that meted out to a club who missed out one date on a contract !!

We all know what they are guilty of , they have already been found guilty. We know there is more and worse to come, much worse. The SPL enquiry has to find them guilty of illegal registration. The evidence in the public domain isn’t anecdotal, it’s Prima Facie level proof of guilt. Billy Dodds helpful intervention merely confirmed the direct involvement of the owner and chairman .

The fact that Rangers paid Souness at a time he was not employed by Rangers, not once but multiple times, and at a time he was employed by a competitor European club, is beyond anything Redknapp and Allardyce were even accused of.

And Souness isn’t the only one with something to fear. There were others who were not named in the BBC documentary who received payments.

However that’s for later. The fundamental point here is that Rangers are demanding a punishment less severe than Spartans. That cannot even be a consideration for the SFA.

A year long suspension from football is the very least the SFA can now hand down to them
