Fifa lay it on the line for SFA

264

Within a very short period following Rangers ‘success’ at the Court of Session, Fifa issued a statement intimating that while they had not yet heard from the Scottish FA, “in such a case,  FIFA will ask the Member Association to take action so that the club withdraws its request from the ordinary courts.”

If Fifa are telling the world this, they have by now told the SFA to take action to ensure Rangers withdraws its ruling from the Court of Session.

SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, has been satisfied with his hands-off approach with Rangers as this debacle unfolded but such a policy seems to have emboldened the errant club.  The matter has now been taken out of the association’s hands, an embarrassment for every office holder at the SFA*.  After receiving legal advice yesterday evening, they will tell Rangers to walk away or be suspended from football.

Rangers have yet to accept the dual contract allegation is true and, as a corporate body, continue to refuse to produce or acknowledge evidence.  They have not even considered the ramifications of Billy Dodds’ evidence given to the Sunday Herald.  They are looking at this situation through a prism of different facts – specifically, Craig Whyte did a disproportionate amount of harm in a short period of time.

The sense of entitlement at that club, combined with a still-evident failure to show contrition for the more serious offences of the last 20 years, while insisting ‘it was all Craig Whyte’ means anything can happen next.

I’ve questioned the wisdom of a few commenters on Celtic Quick News about choosing a path which would lead to the end of our club.  There appears to be no one telling the fundamentalists running Rangers that destroying a football club while insisting you are in the right is puerile, self-defeating and what your worst enemies would wish on you.

They might be right (they’re not), but self-righteousness can destroy you.

*except Campbell Ogilvie, of course. Nothing can embarrass President What-school-did-you-go-to.

    “Strange that”

Not as strange as wanting to punt Ledley for John Rankin??

You see the GB support Celtic. They are proportionate in their criticism and give it where it is due. On a rare occasion, they have gone over the top, even though they had a legitimate target, e.g. The Poppy Banner but I find most of their views are fairly mainstream and supportive of the club.

And I bet most of them boycott the papers.

  2. So Newclub walk straight back into SPL with no sanctions.

Thank God they cocked up yesterday by going to court and getting Fifa involved.

Treat the new SPL HMRC rules with caution. A failure to pay players on time is a breach of SPL rules but a failure to pay tax is NOT.

    ASonOfDan – Not quite.

The no set rules means they will have no promises on a newco. No pre set forfeits that can be budgeted for.

Each one is decided on its own individual merrits.

As was said before, if the punnishment is set in stone, then its pre set.

If it is individually judged, then they could recieve a FAR higher punnishment.

Walking in scot free is not on the cards

  6. None of this makes any sense to me. Surely the SFA, privately, have to ally themselves with Celtic. If that mob are punished they will boycott. If they are not then we will bhoycott. A no win situation. But there is a clear choice: us or them. If they choose them then both the SFA & Scottish football are finished. That is why the financial argument does not stack up: we are by far the biggest club- the largest attraction in terms of TV audience- as well as a threat from us of a bhoycott has to concentrate the minds of Scottish football bigwigs. We are the biggest players in this crazy situation.

Why would other clubs ally themselves in terms of voting with such a renegade & malfunctioning club? Already clubs that have made vague nods to potential

penalties for New Club have been threatened by boycotts- if so what incentive is there to vote the huns back to the top table? Motherwell have threat of a Champions League expulsion. United may lose out on the Europa/so too St johnstone & Hertz. All these clubs have surely now been alienated once & for all. What of the Tartan Army? Every Scotland fan has to stand opposed to a club that puts its own self-interest above the whole of Scottish football. A Fifa ban would include a punishment to our up & coming kids/youth teams as well as the senior sides. This club is toxic in its Luciferean presumption- their reaction to jeopordize the whole of our game is a Satanic act. Who then would then be seen to stand by the side of such a venomous behemoth? They are finished. All their sympathisers now must have ran for cover & withdrawn support. They stand alone after an act of self sabotage- the decision to oppose the SFA/Fifa stance was a grandoise triumphalist gesture effectively saying: “we are Scottish football”.

The huns desperate actions have now made the SFA decision easy for them: They, as well as the other SPL clubs, must now side with Celtic if football is to survive in this country.

Was watching a programme on the Discovery Channel last night called did the mob killed JFK? I enjoy reading and watching that kind of material and last nights show was excellent. Full of conspiracy theories. Apparently the FBI have literally millions of documents hidden away in a vault. The truth will come out one day although probably far to late to convict the people who conspired to assassinate the president. After watching the programme I couldn’t help but think to myself, this sounds akin to something that is happening in Scottish football at the moment (apart from murder of course). It was more about the millions of documents (or e-mails) hidden away that will and could decide the fate of RFC. But of course as some of you guys have suggested this morning, how long will this procrastination process continue? Days? Weeks? Months or even years. Of course the latter sounds ridiculous but imo this pantomime should have been resolved by now either by the SFA, UEFA or FIFA.

And you are always saying that Peter Lawwell is the man that signs the players so that they earn him a bonus.

So, what is it? Does PL do all that is bad within Celtic? Or are he and Neil in this together?

    _________________________________________________

Point 1. I have said that PL will not sign players that exceed his own bonus-structure. imo.

Point 2. Well, I think that the time is coming, perhaps during the next transfer window when, NL will have to DEMAND that the players HE wants, he gets. Not third or , fourth choice players.

One bone of contention…who signed Mo Bangura ?

    PL or Neil ?

Point 3. Why, when WGS blew 4iar after dropping McGeady for our title decider at ipox in april 2009 in preference for, S, Maloney who hadn’t played all season and, at that point in time….the attendance’s were down by 25k per game despite fans already having paid for their seats, did DD fly to the other end of the planet to beg WGS to stay on for another year ? WTF ?

What i’m getting at is….DD dizny know the history and, PL is no more than a puppet doing what he’s instructed to do by a man who, started supporting Celtic when Fergus sold him shares in 1994. PL is the man holding the office of the day – day running of ‘our’ club and therefore, the buck will continue to stop with him. Although, i’m sure PL won’t mind the heat as, he’s on EPL salary in the, SPL ? Great work if you can get it eh ?

Rangers “got away lightly” with recent sanctions for bringing the game into disrepute, according to the former Scottish FA president John McBeth.

The Ibrox club had a 12-month transfer embargo imposed by the SFA overturned by the Court of Session on Tuesday.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, John MacBeth said: ”Rangers got away lightly with their transfer embargo.”

And MacBeth said the SFA could impose stricter punishment on the club.

”The SFA should go away and look at their books to determine what their next step should be,” he continued. “They could throw them out of the league.”

McBeth, who was a vocal critic of FIFA president Sepp Blatter while in office, also claimed that SPL clubs could survive in a league without Rangers.

”Football would survive without Rangers, maybe not at the same level, and the game would may be lose some fans – but so be it,” he said.

  22. The FF comments are bluster. Unless these people are in a significant majority to their opposition in a fight they back down. Trust me. I’ve seen them at close quarters since 1969 when they burned Cupar Street and Bombay Street. In the years that followed, despite overwhelming support from Special Branch, UDR, Brits, local radio and tv, workers in positions of power (think their “Worker’s Strike” over Sunningdale) they relied on others to fight for them. They still posture and swagger here, but they’re going nowhere and they have, almost finally, accepted it. The WATP still exists in their minds, but they don’t believe it. A long time ago, when the UDA “declared war” on the British Army, and when the Scottish “commander” of the UDA was reading a map of Belfast upside down in their “Headquarters”, Roy Mason sent the Paras in. They didn’t even last a day with their barricades and bluster. The Paras taunted them—“The kids in Ballymurphy give us a better fight!”. They are morally extinct, they are lawbreakers. And they are cowards.

  23. SFA Statement released this afternoon;

“Further to yesterday’s ruling by the

Court of Session, the SFA is currently

    consulting with lawyers regarding the

way forward in respect of potential

    sanction(s) against Rangers Football

Club arising from breaches of SFA regulations. The SFA is extremely disappointed with the ruling of the Court of Session in light of the fact that the independent tribunal had imposed a transfer embargo

for breaches of SFA regulations which,

according to the tribunal were almost as serious as match-fixing. Despite what might be interpreted as a

novel and restrained sanction, Rangers FC have sought to jeopardise the participation of all SFA clubs and the national side in international

competitions arising from the decision of Rangers FC to seek recourse to a civil court in contravention of SFA and FIFA regulations. Having effectively thumbed their noses at the SFA and FIFA, presumably in full knowledge of the difficulties referral to the Court of Session would entail, the SFA will immediately remit the matter back to an independent tribunal for reconsideration. In view of the factual

findings of the previous tribunal and the submissions on behalf of both parties at the Court of Session, it appears inevitable that the only realistic sanctions now open to any tribunal are suspension or expulsion of Rangers FC.

    Manifestly, suspension or expulsion

from the Scottish Cup would be wholly

    inadequate, particularly given that the

breaches of regulations were not matters relating solely to participation in the Scottish Cup. It is to be noted that further enquiries in relation to alleged dual contracts are

ongoing and any punishment of Rangers FC in the event of findings against the club in respect of dual contracts will be decided with regard to the irresponsible actions of the club in respect of the above matters. The actions of Rangers FC have required

significant, unnecessary expenditure by SFA in dealing with these legal matters and it will be the intention of SFA to seek to recoup any legal and incidental expenditure arising therefrom. The SFA notes the restraint

demonstrated by other clubs likely to be affected by the above matters and shares the frustration of said clubs and their fans with Rangers FC. The SFA is primarily concerned with all member clubs adhering to the rules and

essentially, operating fairly in a manner

consistent with maintaining the sporting and financial integrity of the game as a whole. The SFA will also seek to land a man on

the moon by 2015, achieve world peace and end poverty. These tasks will be developed immediately after we deal with Rangers FC in a fair, proportionate manner”
