Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

Great news Knoxy. Well done wee Oscar.

    Will check out your blog.

    Hail Hail

  2. Like many others on here i too am concerned at the lack of protection our players receive from officialdom, i wonder if the club willl ever get round to asking if the mibs might consider refereeing matches in a manner that’s consistent with the way they’re handled everywhere else in Europe.

If the local mibs are unable or unwilling to do so then i suggest we lobby for foreign referees or tell them we’re going to explore other avenues

    ie joining another league.

  3. saltires en sevilla, indeed.

Billy’s Bhoy, isolation, these injuries can be explained, but they need to be examined in aggregate.

The boays fae the barras could have struck a better deal than that lot with the talent we were flogging.

I think the much-vaunted Quality Street Kids brought us in less than a million, some going for a club who had decided to go down the seller route.

Mind,it worked the other way too.

Big Jock’s record signing was Johnny Doyle,£90,000.

He never got the chance to splash the cash, and hit six figures.

Fife Police yesterday insisted that discussions between officers and Fenlon at the end of the Scottish Cup tie had simply been part of “usual procedure”.

The Irishman was repeatedly subjected to aggressive abuse – much of it centring on his nationality – from individuals within the home support during the Easter Road side’s 3-2 victory over the Second Division leaders. However, despite the offenders being clearly identifiable in the stand, no action was taken by police or stewards.

The 42-year-old Fenlon was then seen speaking to the police as he made his way across the stock car track and towards the main-stand tunnel from his place in the dugouts beside the Central Park pitch at full-time.

However, the former Bohemians manager, who became one of the few Catholics to have played for the staunchly-Protestant Linfield in Belfast during the 1990s, refused to divulge the nature of the brief discussion when asked in the immediate aftermath of a rumbustious cup tie.

“That’s between me and the policemen, we’ll leave it at that,” he said. “I’m used to abuse. If you’ve played for Linfield and you manage in Ireland you get plenty of abuse.

“I don’t mind that. It’s good banter, as long as it doesn’t get over the top.”

It is understood Fenlon has not mentioned the crowd’s insults to officials at Easter Road and Fife Police yesterday indicated there would be no ramifications for Cowdenbeath – who have received no complaints from fans – or the supporters involved.

A spokesman said: “Following the Scottish Cup tie at Central Park, Cowdenbeath, on Saturday, as is usual procedure, officers from Fife Constabulary spoke with the match officials and the respective management teams, and nothing of a criminal nature was reported at this time.”

    When is offensive not offensive?

    BMCUW,

    No worries Mucker.

London isn’t the only Engineering Hotspot (we’re in Aberdeen) for the UK :-)

The lack experience and young guys who want that experience (as opposed to just chasing a buck) is sadly lacking up here.

In addition, I have 3 Huns working for me and no Tims so while I’m the boss and get away with giving back more than I receive, it would be nice to have one or 2 more to fight the good fight for me at times :-)

What better way to recruit than through a Celtic Site HAHA.

Sounds like you did the same course as me at Uni although I lasted a mere 8 months before my money ran out and I had to go to work :-)

Indeed, – wonder were we would be now if Aiden McGeady or Neil Lennon had complained about Irish racial abuse whilst they visited nearly every ground in Scotland in their playing days?

  8. Some of the late night posters will recall that last night there was a flurry of posts about the procedure for Newco “replacing” Oldco in the event of administration. Paul posted to the effect that the SPL board would make the decison by majority only and he had been told as much by the SPL. I was unsure about this,as were a number of other posters, so I decided to look at the articles of asociation itself.

For what it is worth, the decision to admit a new member can be taken by a majority of the board. Those resolutions requiring a special majority do not cover the consideration of a new club being admitted to the SPL. I refer to articles 30 to 45 which cover these circumstances. So, there will be no need for all the clubs to consider what happens when Oldco departs the stage. This may seem outrageous but there is little that the other clubs, or anyone else for that matter, can do if they are not happy with the situation.

However, I cannot see how Newco can gain acceptance to the SPL. The probem is in article 13(i), and that is where I feel all attention should be directed. The transfer of a share can be only made to a person who owns AND operates a club. This presupposes it would be a person OTHER than the operator of Oldco or Newco. The article is clear and there is no discretion in the matter. In my opinion, there is no need to consider anything else in the articles at all as 13(i) says it all. The SPL are bound by their articles and cannot act outwith their terms. In addition, no majority of the SPL board can get round this problem. There would have to be a root and branch reform of the articles before a simple majority vote would see Newco rise from the ashes and take part in the new season.

I appreciate that there are many others on the blog who will have posted in a similar fashion over the last few months. I just felt that looking at the articles again at this stage was worthwhile. The gist of my post is that any attempt to allow Newco into the SPL in terms of the articles as they currently stand will almost fail. Futhermore, any attempt which appears to be succeeding will almost certainly be subject to litigation for months if not years.

I am looking forward to a long, slow, twist in the wind for certain owners and operators of a certain club.

I didn’t comment on the news you imparted before Christmas, because I couldn’t find any words which were appropriate.

    I will now.

I’m absolutely delighted for Oscar, yourself and your family. I hope it is the beginning of a great fightback.

Knoxy – glad the wee man looks to be on the mend – all the best.

Does anyone know the 2 trialists playing in the bounce game with St Johnstone at the mo? One is probably Ibrahim – the other?

On another matter, the Evening Times is pushing the party line with AVB apparently stating: ‘All suffer if Rangers go to wall’. How this man’s opinion on Scottish Football finances can be put forward as being relevant or vaild I’ll never know!

I can’t help thinking Cameron has outsmarted Salmond on this.

My feeling has been that Salmond wouldn’t hold a referendum unless he was certain to win and would use the threat of someone mounting a legal challenge a Holyrood organised referendum to kick the can down the road for a bit longer.

At a stroke Cameron has removed that get out clause.

  15. For all you suffering Irishmen and Women;
