Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

I was at the Cowdenbeath/Hibs game at the weekend. Suffice to say I heard more racist abuse in 90 minutes than I have heard in decades at CP. Not a police officer in sight of course. Anti Irish abuse was hurled at Fenlon and the Irish Hibs players all game. Dare say I misunderstood and this was just “banter”.

  2. update re Celtic TV Survey…

    Dear Darren,

i note that there is NO “comments” section in the survey

    here are my comments, nonetheless

perhaps you might pass them on or include them in your final report

our club does not have the money of ManUtd or Chelsea or Liverpool or Arsenal

    sure

however, i have in the past WATCHED tv channels relating to the above clubs

they were of a GOOD standard – not EXCELLENT, but quite good

each had comprehensive coverage of youth matches, new signings interviews, manager interviews, club phone-in shows, merchandising advertising, guest interviews, regular club update new bulletins, CEO interviews, owner interviews on occasion, behind the scenes dressing room footage, charity event coverage, around the club employee interviews, ticket office features, new technology at the club features, security, facilties features, supporter club specials and a whole host of other broadcast packages, betting odds, famous fan sections, historic games etc etc – the phone-in shows were often the best

not to mention live coverage of games etc

i feel that if the club spent some more time and emphasis on marketing, finance would be in place to create such a Celtic TV package that could then be sent across the whole world

i watched ManU TV in the Middle East for 3years (cos there was not much else to watch) – it works !!!

the more the club is in the spotlight, the more people will spend on it

    Celtic must do the same

    thanks for your time

    kind regards

    TC

Your additional comments are very interesting and I thank you for them – they will be used in my report as some of your points are valid and could be worked on.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

All the best for the rest of the season and may the champions be in Green and White,

  3. I never thought I would see the day where, given a straight choice, I would opt for the Union.

Having witnessed the Scottish Justice Secretary make a complete *rse of himself on the international stage, followed by making a complete *rse of himself in the wake of the disgraceful League Cup Final at Hampden in 2011, I seriously began to question exactly what an independent Scotland in the hands of the SNP would mean for me, my family and this country.

My doubts were confirmed after witnessing the charade led by Christine Graham last year. The manner in which non-compliant viewpoints and intellectual arguments were ignored or dismissed was truly chilling. These people are in Government? The casual destruction (or convenient hiding?) of basic criminal data, from which analysis and conclusions should be a fundamental expectation, indicates that the reputation of our country is more valued than the truth that lies within.

I shall never vote for an independent Scotland under the SNP Government. If the only alternative is to support the Union, then I shall be supporting the Union. As far as I’m concerned the SNP signed away their right to govern when they drove through this disgraceful bill to criminalise football supporters – aimed directly at Celtic supporters since we failed to breach any exisiting sectarion laws – for singing songs in a football stadium that are legal everywhere else in the country.

The SNP will never get my vote.

Does that make me a unionist? I may point that out the next time I’m called a F8nian B. “A F8enian Unionist B”, I shall correct them.

Losing Kayal for the season is a real ‘kick in the middles’ as my 4 year-old daughter is wont to say after delivering suitable punishment to her older brother.

However, far from doubling up in agony like an outraged 7 year-old, we must look upon this as opprtunity for other players to establish themselves.

Bi Vic is the natural replacement for Kayal. Paddy McCourt is long overdue a run in the centre of midfield. Ki, if he stays, does have the ability to run the show; jury remains out.

I’d take a chance on signing Johnny Hayes from ICT – a dynamic and fearless midfield runner with an eye for goal who has given our midfield a torrid time on a couple of recent occassions.

We probably now need to gamble on buying another centre-back if Vic is to solidify the defensive mid spot. Unless Lustig is able cover.

For mid-January entertainment purposes I am looking forward to the media smokescreen around the Hun problems.

Fully expect the Daily Retard to lead soon with a front page artist’s impression (from ‘ACTUAL’ plans) of the Rangers Newco super-stadium. It will be deemed ‘space-age’, by Media House requisite, sport hovering lazee-boy leather chairs with inbuilt vid screens instead of seating around three hotel & casino hybrid sides of its ‘flying-saucer-esque’ multi-level stands.

The new main stand itself will be an immense symbolic phoenix made of individual union-flag-logo bricks towering over all of Glasgow. Each wing will house the dressing rooms. The Hun superstars, including the summer signing Lionel Messi (fulfilling his ‘boyhood dream’), will emerge on anti-grav platforms which will descend slowly to the immaculate pitch to a mash-up of Tina Turner, Wagner, and God Save the Queen. The away side will ‘go doon a big slide’.

The centrepiece will be the phoenix’s solid gold head which will be Craig Whyte’s residence, office and ‘function suites’ – a giant revolving high-class whorehouse which will loom over the pitch on matchdays and turn to gaze with protestant superiority at the East End Tims when the weekly 10-0 victories have been concluded.

Danny Webber was with us at the start of December and don’t think he played in any bounce matches due to lack of match fitness so might be him.

He a striker who started as a youth at ManUre.

  7. ernie lynch,

Salmond wants one outcome and Cameron another. Both will try to impose conditions that suit their desired result. But it’s all getting rather silly as arguments about process dominate. We all know we are going to have a referendum – I would rather just get on and do it as soon as we can.

I can assure you that to all of us from the Kingdom it comes as no surprise that this kind of abuse happened in the most unpleasent of towns, only second in Scotland to the knuckledraggers den that is Larkhall.

Even less of a surprise that Fifes finest have decided not to act. We really are in the minority in this part of the world.

My apologies to the minority of good Celtic men who reside in either of these shamelessly bigoted, backword little towns.

I was living in Scotland at the time of the referendum, and campaigned against it.

Although I could see that the system was set up to avoid anyparty having a majority,we all know what contrary b….rds us Scots can be,and so it came to pass.

There are nearly 200 MPs and MSPs in a country of 5m,and God knows how many councillors.

They’ve all got an opinion, and that carries more weight, due to their position, than yours or mine.

Which is clearly wrong,as few of them are fit to hold one.

We get the politicians we deserve, and look where it’s got us.

  15. This is going to come as a big, big shock, but Real Valladolid have told local paper El Norte de Castilla that they haven’t had any contact from Rangers regarding Javi Guerra.

Hard as it is to believe, I’m tempted to conclude that the Daily Record was exaggerating with its story this morning.

A recent update to a report El Norte published online this morning reads thus:

Real Valladolid’s technical director, Alberto Marcos, said all he knew about Glasgow Rangers’ interest in Javi Guerra was what journalists had told him. “They haven’t been in touch with us. We don’t know anything further. Everyone is talking about Javi, even more so since he scored a hat-trick at the weekend. We have to consider any sort of money coming in [Real Valladolid are currently in administration], so it’s something we would look at and think over, but at this moment in time there is nothing on the table.”

  20. afternoon all,

Kayal out for the season AGAIN! deja vu of last year???

Paul 67 does soft tissue issues include the studs over the ball challenge that are freely allowed against Celtic players in the SPL???

I watched the manchester derby on sunday before the Celtic match and obviously the straight red card issue to Vincent Company!!

Wayne rooney has since said that referees come into every club before the start of a season and tell them if a player tackles with both feet off the ground it is a straight red card!!!

I wonder has elbows mcullogh been told that?????

Anybody got an updae on the injury to Joe Ledley?

  21. Knoxy, like Down for Sam, I determined to make donating blood one of my many resolutions for 2012 too.

I’m sure Pat Nevin (Glasgow Hibs SC, only member) will be taking a principled stand on the issue next time he’s on Sportscene, condemning, er, “both sides” of Fife

  23. ernie lynch – My feeling has been that Salmond wouldn’t hold a referendum unless he was certain to win and would use the threat of someone mounting a legal challenge a Holyrood organised referendum to kick the can down the road for a bit longer.

    Yup.

Barring some unforeseen catastrophe, if a referendum is held within the next 18 months a solid majority of Scots will vote to remain within the UK.

Salmond knows this, and knows it will pose some very difficult questions for him and his party. The fundamentalist wing of his party will be out for blood if/when he loses the referendum, and the bloom will be very much off the SNP’s thistle.

Hence all the bluster from Sturgeon the other day. (thumbsup)

Sabre67 – I shall never vote for an independent Scotland under the SNP Government. If the only alternative is to support the Union, then I shall be supporting the Union. For better or worse, you know where you are with the UK. It has been a moderating influence on the more bigoted impulses of Scottish society.

It’s hard to imagine a football manager in England being subjected to the campaign of hate, violence, and terrorism that Neil Lennon has been targeted with since moving to Scotland.

It’s hard to imagine the UK Parliament passing such a sinister law as the offensive communications bill in an attempt to “even things up”.

It’s hard to imagine the UK authorities deliberately destroying inconvenient statistics on anti-Catholic violence, and then having the brass neck to simply refuse to recollect them. (thumbsup)

I posted a link a while back. Don’t know if you noticed it. For a weekly show on radio ulster. Good mix of music each night. Thought you might like it. I posted a couple of songs I heard on radio, you mentioned you like them (I think). Here it is again anyway.
