Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

Arrived for work 11.59, any minute now I’ll start ;-)

Don’t know opposition, but they are going to announce who the two trialists were.

Pure guessing Ibrahim was one of them.

  2. Cameron is playing into Salmonds hands trying to impose a referendum under his terms. It is for the Scottish people to decide and we voted for the SNP & Salmond, not Cameron & the Tories to arrange it.

I got to say I feel Cameron maybe wants Scotland to be Indepenent as it would mean Labour would never win a General Election again down south!

Well done mate, what a well written post. As an anti-Tory I was leaning towards voting foe the S.N.P. Instead I have now made up my mind to support the union now.

Some excellent posts regarding the referendum.

no real guide but i saw Ibrahim on youtube – looked guff, too lightweight, too fancy-dan and minimum, if any, end product

    Sorry about the delay.

You’re right there is no specific provision to the effect of how many votes are required if considering a new member to the SPL. I saw your argument about voting on a special qualified resolution due to there being an expansion to the league. However, the provisions of article 14 is specific and state quite clearly what procedure is to be adopted in the event of an administration event. For this reason I do not feel that this can properly be regarded as an “expansion” situation. The numbers of clubs will remain the same if a Newco is admitted.

Incidentally, I do agree that there is a feeling in the articles that they have not quite envisaged the sort of situation which may result with Oldco/Newco. I am open to suggestons as to other interpetations of the articles. However, article 13(i) is clear and cannot be deviated from.

We are playing St Johnstone who are also giving 3 trialists a run out.

I think Celtic really want Kris Commons to get 90 minutes today.

Loose language will get me into trouble!

I should, of course, have said implied.

The only way to construe the articles in a coherent fashion is to regard the club to which the share is to be transferred as already in existence otherwise there is no legal entity to which the share can be transferred. The latter part of article 14 indicates that there will have to be another club taking the place of Oldco. This would also imply a club from the SFL as it only has to be an “association football club”.

In my opinion, article 14 was set up to deal with the aftermath of a club entering administration. In order to preserve the share, it cannot be allowed to float around aimlessly – a kind of incorporeal Barry Ferguson. Someone- a person who already owns AND operates a club – has to get it.Not Newco, not Chris Whyte, not anyone else. The SPL will have to accept this or change its procedures asap.

The turnout at the Holyrood election was barely 50%.

The SNP got fewer first preference votes than Labour have at at every Westminster election since the party was formed.

That’s the extent of the SNP’s landslide victory and their mandate.

Let’s just hold a one question, yes/no referendum as soon as possible and put the matter to bed. No more obfuscation, prevarication and procrastination.

Enjoyed listening to the Carluke podcast but please ghuys, drop the cringey rap at the start of the show.

  16. ernie lynch – we both know there is a very simple and straightforward reason as to why Salmond does not want a simple yes or no question. The inevitable no ends his party for a generation. The fact he was planning on trying to use a 700 year old battle as a prop shows he knows which way the majority of Scots will vote if asked a straight question.

    report from 2008 !!! ….

    Name: Ingolfur Sigurdsson

    Nationality: Iceland

    DOB: 1993

    News:

Reports from Iceland suggest that Celtic and a host of other clubs are chasing the signature of xx year old winger Ingolfur Sigurdsson.

The Celts are said to be in pole position to sign him despite serious interest from clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona.

According to the Icelandic Channel 2 Celtic have already spoken extensively with the boys parents and have received a great deal of encouragement. Chelsea’s chief scout and director of youth development Frank Arnesen has also made the trip to Iceland to run the rule over the youngster and to talk to his parents.

If he does sign he’ll be following the path of former Icelandic youth players Kjartan Finnbogason and Theodor ‘Teddy’ Bjarnason who have both now left the club after failing to break through into the first team. Celtic’s most succesful Icelander was of course Johannes ‘Shuggy’ Edvaldsson who made 188 appearances in the hoops between 1975 and 1980.

    Paul67,

If you are lurking I have been meaning to ask you about your thoughts on Lennon’s admission to not being too concerned with tactics.

“I’m not big on tactics. It’s about the players and they have to go out onto the pitch and apply that.”

It’s being playing on my mind as I agree that these are alarming words.

However, as a manager in any profession, would it not be wise for him to state that success is dependent on the players or team’s efforts? Therefore eliminating the potential for any failure to be blamed on the system as staff are wont to do?

It’s hard, having seen Neil Lennon play so intelligently, to accept that he believes in that tactical considerations are barely significant in the modern game

  19. Beram Kayal out for the rest of the season is a massive loss as we enter the critical stage as we bid for the Championship. Beram now misses another large chunk of the season similar to his first term at the club. We are well covered in midfield as long as Joe L and Scott B – themselves no strangers to the treatment room – stay healthy.

Thought Paddy looked majestic in midfield on Sunday spraying passes around reminiscent of Bobby Charlton in his prime – not forgetting of course that it was against a lowly third division side.

  20. TopCorner – Celtic’s most succesful Icelander was of course Johannes ‘Shuggy’ Edvaldsson who made 188 appearances in the hoops between 1975 and 1980.

My question still focus’s on whether it is within the board of the SPL’s remit as Paul67 has been advised by 2 separate interested observers (an SPL club and a Journo from a major broadcaster who has been afforded a detailed explanation from the SPL) or whether a GM is required in order to pass a Qualified resolution as stated in article 14 with regards transfer of a share as there is a big difference between a simple majority were only 6 pre

Don’t read into that statement too much.

Neil Lennon has the measure of the press and they know it. They could have made a massive deal out of that statement and didn’t. That tells it’s own story.

Neil has the tactics right. Doesn’t matter what he says in the press.

For someone not big on tactics, I thought he got his tactics spot on in the Europaa League and it was just some bad luck in certain games that saw us fail to qualify.
