Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

  1. I think its more of a case that Salmond wants to hold the referendum at a time when Scotland is feeling good about itself, the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup.

Many have said that the reason Scotland didn’t vote for devolution (apart from the vote being rigged so a dead persons vote counted as a no) in March 79 was due to the depression felt after the humilition in Argentina 9 months earlier!

More and more people are also realising that an Indepedent Scotland could stand on its on feet and he wants more time for those people to come round to that way of thinking. We could/should be one of the wealthiest countries in the world, why are we not?

But hey, I don’t want or like being classified as British, some of you obviously are proud to be British, I’m just not one of them!

Stop taking the piss out of Greenjedi. He’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer but he does his best and doesn’t deserve to be made a fool of.

  3. greenjedi – and there is the problem. For something as important as voting for independence he shouldn’t have to use gimmicks to get a favourable vote. The facts should stand on their own. If he needs to use gimmicks it means the arguments for doing so do not stand up on their own merit.

In my opinion of course. I don’t want people duped into voting for something so important, so generationally stretching vital by party political broadcasts about Robert The Bruce with bag pipe music playing.

Also your jongoism in reference to “British” does your argument no merit as it is obvious what you are trying to do there.

I hope so. He comes across as an intelligent man.

I see this as a testing time for Neil. With Stokes Hooper sammi forrest and Commons all fit. With these options it will be easy to revert to a 4 2 4 which has cost us in the past.

On a similar point, having read a few autobioraphies on former players it is startling how they describe matches they have been in.

“we got stuck in early” and “we passed the ball well” is about as technical as they get.

  6. The SNP want the referendum in the latter half of this parliament as a result of extensive demographic research, and they want to include 16 and 17 year olds.

I too would rather have a Scottish passport than a British one but will we be in a better state?

Could be a return to the dark old days. People can vote independence and for another party can they not?

I thought this was the whole idea of the Scottish Tory party. If they don’t win seats it doesn’t effect the Tory party as it’s seperate. The Tories have given up on Scotland, The Lib Dems will be lucky to hold on to one seat in the Scottish parliament and they are effectively finished in the Westminster elections too.

Cameron wants rid of Scotland to make the election in Westminster a two way battle between Labour and Tory. He knows it’s their best chance of winning.

That is how it appeared to me.

Was it Rennes at CP were we played a strecthced back three with Wanyama just infront? It was a really odd shape to play and we were excellent.

Looked quite astute to me but some of the formations earlier in the year in the SPL seemed at odds with it.

  9. BlantyreKev – and they want to include 16 and 17 year olds

    Geez.

They’re not old enough to rent a car or vote in a general election, but can make mature decisions about the future of their country?

    A. To advertise all the good they would do, thats why!

Is there many positives in becoming an Independent Nation? Yes!

Is there many downsides to becoming an Independent Nation? Yes!

Each side will highlight the facts that will help in their desired result.

Tell me the last time anybody, anywhere won an election based on just facts and policies. Its about who advertises themselves better. This vote when it happens will be no different.

Also in a referendum we will be deciding if we want to remain British or become Scottish officially/legally in the eyes of the world. So I don’t think thats jingoism, more a choice for our nationality.

  17. Moonbeams

I have now donned the tin helmet!

I do not think it is terribly important who votes on the matter. This would presuppose (damn, it’s that word again) that they would be considering how Newco could edge its way into the SPL. On my reading of the articles, neither the clubs nor the board can do this whether it is by simple majority or 90%. I believe that clubs will vote in their own perceived best interests. If I were a chairman of an SPL club, I would demand with menaces huge sums from Newco each year for perhaps 10 years to let them in. This would help to weaken Newco and give my club a fighting chance. It would also help my club’s bank balance. However, we will have no control over how these clubs will decide the fate of Newco if they get a chance.

My point is to use the articles to stop any chance of the clubs or board getting their hands on this. The share is to be transferred to a person who already owns AND operates another club. Once that transfer takes place, the transferree, or new club, will automatically become the new SPL member – not Newco or anyone else.

    Let’s keep it that way.

  18. greenjedi – this is the trap many are falling into. This isn’t an ordinary election. You can’t realise you made a mistake and vote the other side in 5 years later. This absolutely 100% must be fought purely on the facts as there will be no going back. In fact in the case of the SNP they are “all in” on this one.

Falling for heart string tugging sentimentalism or getting dewey eyed over fly bys of Scottish glens whilst Salmond tells us we will be able to use Gold bricks in our houses in his voice over not only do ourselves an injustice but also our children, and their children.

This isn’t a normal election or a normal cross in the box it is too important for sly tactics and marketing gimmicks. The future generations are owed the courtesy of this being conducted with integrity. I am aware there is not much chance of that….

I would go further in fact as it is so important. I would say you need the majority vote in a referendum that attracts a minimum 80% turnout. We shouldn’t be going independent on the say so of 50 odd percent of a 45% turnout.

    From earlier.

Just catching up and saw your post from The Scotsman relating to the sectarian abuse at Cowdenbeath at the weekend.

My ticket for the game on Sunday was in the Peterhead end. About half way through the first half a man, who must have been close to 40, began shouting abuse at Mulgrew making reference to his parenting skills. It became a bit distasteful and eventually myself and another Tim politely shouted at him to be quiet……

A few minutes later he had climbed to the top of the scaffolding, which acted as a temporary stand and proceeded to SING, not shout. “Get tae **** ya fenian *****!” to the tune of, “We can see you sneeking out” etc

In fairness Grampian’s finest got there before anyone else could. The look of indignation and astonishment as he was led away was incredible. He clearly thought that he had done nothing wrong and what he had sang was completely acceptable.

We have a long way to go.

I have just read your comments on the 61 Final. I can still recall that feeling of utter devastation to this minute. Wasn’t Eddie Connachan a Gorbals lhad? He played the game of his life in the replay.

  24. The SNP are a one man party.

What do they do when Salmond goes?

They failed miserably without him before in Scotland and he had to come North from Westminster to get his party in power. Since he did he has no challenge whatsoever in the Scottish Parliament.

I was hoping that George Galloway could get in to at least give him a run for his money but he fell short.

I don’t think the people of Scotland are brave enough to go it alone. We are a conquered nation. We accept things too easilly. The Poll Tax was met with muted moaning up here and grudgingly paid by the majority. Contrast that with the riots in England. The English are not a conquered nation and they fight for their rights. Most Scot’s moan for a while and then accept things.

We will never be a strong independent nation when the people who live in this country are split the way they always have but also gutless in their desire to be free, to go it alone and build a better nation.

These are of course the same people with the Scotland tattoo’s who attend the Scotland football matches singing about hating England and Doe a deer…..

Meanwhile the majority of people who support our rugby team are the higher end of the proud Scottish people. These people have more in common with England than the majority of Scotland with their private education and posh accents. No way will they vote for independence. While they sing Flower of Scotland with one of the royals they ignore the words and support the union.

Scotland is one of the craziest countries in the world. The majority of our people live in a central belt of bigotry and hatred whilst the rest live in a Scotland that relies on farming and tourists that works in tandem with England!

I can only see true nationalists and students vote for independence.

I could be wrong though. I usually am after a rant like that……..
