Fighting the same foe too many times

1064

Napoleon observed that no one should fight the same enemy too many times, as eventually their superior ways and techniques will become redundant as the inferior foe will eventually hit on a strategy which works.

Dundee United did reasonably well in their two games against Celtic in the last 9 days, despite playing a considerable part of both games with a man disadvantage.  They will arrive at Celtic Park tomorrow night having learned a few lessons, and hooping to compete with a full complement of players.

The danger for Celtic lies in what happened against St Johnstone at Celtic Park earlier this month.  The Perth team have won only two of their nine games since 17 January but they knew what to expect from Celtic, who were marginally off-pace, enough so to leave the field without points.  Another marginally off-pace performance tomorrow night and talk of trebles will evaporate in an instant.

If we’re vulnerable at any point between now and the end of the season, it’s this midweek.

Leftclicktic, I would also point out that payroll day at hun-central (last Thursday in the month) falls quite early this month, 26th March.

    Which is nice.

I nearly never gave Hamdump the money either, and I can walk home in 10 minutes.

I have wrangled with my conscience over going to Hamdump in May ……

    Happy birthday Patricia.

Got two days of scintillating fitba starting tonight.

My home team Elgin City take on East Stirling tonight. We were welded to the bottom of League 2 for weeks but have picked up a few wins since the turn of the year and now have an outside chance (much like Sevco) of making the playoffs. There, except for red socks and the quality of football on display ends the comparison.

Then, tomorrow, taking the train to the dear green place to watch my beloved hoops hopefully rub it in wee Jackies nose.

should be in town about 1630. Anyone fancying a pre or post pint or two I should be in the BV . BMCUW Is hopefully going to be allowed out.

I would set this team if fit.

True but Big Jock was talking to exceptional players, who could adapt and who had been team mates for years.

Ronny, I think, is reinforcing the system until there is 100% comfort and then, hopefully, in the future, he will have that luxury too.

    Not saying you’re wrong mind!

  9. Just had a look at the after match celebrations with the players on the pitch. Lovely shot of Liam Henderson and Darnell Fisher with the cup, both looked so happy , something refreshingly honest about it .

Is Kris Commons ok for tomorrow , thought he took a sore one on Sunday ?

    BSR,

I ‘d almost forgotten how good this film is.

    The dialogue is brilliant .

I first saw it in St.Augustine, Milton, school hall and formed a life long crush on Maureen O’Hara.

Ward Bond’s famous ‘Cheer like good Protestants’ line was apparently based on fact.

I came across it in a kind of travelogue book published a few years before the making of the film. Gerry McNee wrote a fairly interesting book about the actual making of the film.

  15. Met the ABBA girls once when my wee bro sang in their choir on stage (they used a local school choir at each venue on ‘I have a dream’…sorry). Anyway Frida or Annafrid was staggeringly beautiful in the flesh (not very much flesh, I regret to report). As for Agnetha, she had a clinically interesting lordosis, that’s for sure (copyright Clive James).

  16. I’d like to see Henderson and Fisher get a run out on Saturday.

Tomorrow we should stick with those who have been playing well.

I don`t know why I am posting this when I know full well that what Ronny does is all that counts! nevertheless, I feel united may well be weak in the full-back positions so I would like to see ours attacking. That being the case and although I am a fan of Efe`s, I would like to see Fisher one half and Lustig the other. I am quite happy with the Izzy/Anton partnership on the other wing.

Henderson is very different from Joe Hansen but I would play him anyway. He has a touch of class.

Kris is an enigma. I tend to agree with those who think he gives us nothing but goals!

  27. Just watching a recording of the St Patrick’s Day from Armagh on Irish TV. They have shown the parade in Manchester as part of the program. We have been promised visits to Leeds, London, New York, Boston to see how they are celebrating.

I wonder why they are not coming to Glasgow to watch a St Patrick’s Day parade? Oh, I forgot…yes, I remember the answer to that..
