Fighting the same foe too many times

1064

Napoleon observed that no one should fight the same enemy too many times, as eventually their superior ways and techniques will become redundant as the inferior foe will eventually hit on a strategy which works.

Dundee United did reasonably well in their two games against Celtic in the last 9 days, despite playing a considerable part of both games with a man disadvantage.  They will arrive at Celtic Park tomorrow night having learned a few lessons, and hooping to compete with a full complement of players.

The danger for Celtic lies in what happened against St Johnstone at Celtic Park earlier this month.  The Perth team have won only two of their nine games since 17 January but they knew what to expect from Celtic, who were marginally off-pace, enough so to leave the field without points.  Another marginally off-pace performance tomorrow night and talk of trebles will evaporate in an instant.

If we’re vulnerable at any point between now and the end of the season, it’s this midweek.

  1. I think the UNITED dressing room will be filled with a team of guys who will allready mentally be beaten.

They will think, we cant beat this celtic team with football, with violent play, with cheating.

    we just cant beat them.

If their two ex players play against them, i think we will pump them.

I dont think the game is on, due to a conflict with Champion’s League broadcasts. I think Celtic TV has audio only, and is showing it on a tape delayed basis.

If I am mistaken, can someone let me know who/where is showing it.

To add to the Stefan Johansen absence debate, RD might promote Wee Jamesie to the starting line up ahead of Liam Henderson.

I would also point out that the reverse is the same.

With every game versus DU, Ronny, his assistants and our players are getting insight into their strategy and tactics.

  8. I came across it in a kind of travelogue book published a few years before the making of the film. Gerry McNee wrote a fairly interesting book about the actual making of the film.

Glasgow Birds? – if you did turn up at one, with young man’s ‘dress code’ you could be surrounded by a gaggle of **x starved ole buffers, attempting to have their wicked way with you.

Perhaps an ancestral chastity belt from my collection would be a safe move….unless of course you like living dangerously?

I tell you some of these ole buffers can be mighty ‘persistent’ after a few pints of guinness.

Not sure why an independent day can’t be organised in Glasgow? There’s us, the tourists, foreign nationals, students and the rational presbyterians. That’s about 99% of the city.

Surely we have enough eventy people who could make a few bookings?

I mean ffs he doesn’t need to appear in person…….

Assuming ML is fit for tomorrow, I think he will slot in at right back.

I think Rd will go with JF, SB, NB and AS in the middle with KC behind LG up front.

for Saturday, I would swap up GMS for JF, SA for AS and SJ for KC.

Once we are through this period, I would like to see LH given a run in the team to see what he can do.

  20. Re the Quiet Man……….

I initially left Glasgow in search of fame and fortune some forty year or so ago but could never stay away too long, and the same applies now; have retained the same friendships, almost all Celtic related.

Anyway, my best pal growing up used to watch The Quiet Man at every opportunity, think it was actually a family directive as his uncles (local boxers, I think) played minor parts and were mentioned in the credits.

So having moved to Englandshire and bringing the mini bus team up to Glasgow (the day before the game), we headed to a well known Tim shop on Pollokshaws Road with the promise that we would ditch said mini-bus and be collected from there and ferried onwards to Pollok for some much needed rest and nightcaps prior to the game (v Aberdeen penalty shoot-out)………..

My mate was a taxi driver in the southside……..

Chippy take away (from the Star???) and bevvie secured we ended up in the always hospitable house (JimmyNotPaul of this parish will know the family), with a new and ‘colourscope’ version (Christmas prezzie) of said move on VHS at two in the morning with PF the taxi driver pre-empting every single word of dialogue.

Considering that some of the bhoys were English. They, nonetheless, were really looking forward to some reb tunes, surreal doesn’t cover it in anyway shape or form.

Next day in ‘The Oak’ prior to boarding the local CSC bus, they were still talking about it between Aftershocks and Guinness but the guys on the bus were just like “Aye, you must have stayed with PF then………….

It is still talked about to this day……..

Happy Saint Patrick’s day from Cebu………..
