Final day to appeal Lord Glennie decision set to expire

1163

Charles Green, like Whyte and Duff & Phelps before him, is asking for admittance to the SPL on the basis that Rangers FC is a distinct entity from its legal identity.  While this theory has been strongly advocated by SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, by necessity, if you claim the football benefits of being ‘Rangers’, specifically player registrations, you also inherit Rangers penalties.

Although Rangers clearly won their challenge to Lord Carloway’s 12-month ban on player registration at the Court of Session last month when Lord Glennie referred the matter back to the SFA Appellate Panel, as the full ramification of the decision became clear to Green, who then had an irrevocable contract to buy Rangers or its assets, he floated the idea that he might appeal.

The SFA, correctly, decided not to instruct the Appellate Panel until the 21 day period when an appeal can be raised, which elapses today, has passed, just in case Green tells Lord Glennie he’s got it all wrong.

All this has been terribly confusing, not to mention expensive, for Scottish football, but with yesterday’s news that Rangers have a prima facie case to answer for subverting Scottish football for over a decade, the obstacles before Green are clearly insurmountable.  There is reason to believe we can quickly reach some clarity.

The SFA must, without delay, convene the Appellate Panel to consider Lord Glennie’s instructions and apply an appropriate penalty on the various legal and ethereal bodies which claim to be ‘Rangers’.  If the Appellate Panel suspend or expel what is left of the football club from the SFA, as must surely be expected, all questions about fan pressure, morals and votes become moot.

In this case, history will record the folly of Green’s appeal to civil law as the act which finally killed off any chance of ‘Rangers’ surviving, conveniently letting the SPL off the hook, while Green would be obliged to dispose of the stadium for a modest return to those capable of forming a genuinely new football club at some point in the future.

im agreeing with u 100%, but going by my weekends conversation, its not 100 of celtic fans … maybe its just talk and not action, but 1 things for sure, no one knows exactly how it will pan out for US, and my take on it is, that we will downsize accordingly… and thats just my opinion, and possibly, worry :)

mate we go back a wee bit, not long enough and I could never see me falling out with you, but those title that they stole… they cheated. They cheated every Celtic supporter that paid into a game; they cheated every supporter of every club in Scotland. None of the other clubs supporters would begrudge us those titles, and if they did, I would argue against it. Those league title flags belong at Parkhead.

Those leagues happened. Titles were awarded. They were awarded to a team that was belately outed as cheats. You just can’t penalize others integrity for the sake of crooked huns. It just does not happen that way in the first world (?) Those titles have to have a home or Scottish football is so corrupt it is finished. And the record books without champions will be its damning epitaph.

I would like to clarify the background to the offer of £6million for the assets of the Club which I announced on Thursday 14th June 2012.

“The offer was made to the administrators before the Charles Green consortium had concluded their transaction to acquire the assets at £5.5m from the administrators.

“We felt it necessary to have a fall-back position to secure the Club’s future. We have since made the same offer of £6m to the Green consortium through Zeus Capital.

“Our offer has been rejected and they have made a counter-offer inviting us to join their consortium. However, the current business plan is not in accord with our understanding of the present circumstances of the Club and the way forward, but we would prefer to leave them to proceed in their own way and we wish them good luck in their endeavours. Members of our consortium had met with Charles Green and Zeus Capital prior to the CVA meeting and it had been agreed that we would be provided with significant information which would give us comfort as to the identity of the consortium members, their strategy and their funding capacity. This information had not been forthcoming by the date of our offer. We are therefore withdrawing completely from the process to enable Charles Green and his consortium to move forward.

We very much hope the verbal assurances they provided to us – and the public statements made – are adhered to and that the Club will therefore be financed and managed with appropriate governance and can go forward in a sustainable manner.

We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.

Went out for a bevvy with a mate last night – first time I’ve seen him since before Christmas.

It was awkward – as I don’t like rubbing anyone’s nose in it, and he is one of my best pals.

He brought the topic up fairly quickly. A former Rangers season ticket holder (until a few weeks ago) – he’s going to watch his local junior team from now on. He works with many people from a similar background and according to him the feeling among nearly all of them is the same. His exact quote: “People can kid on all they want but Rangers are gone, and everyone knows it.”

He almost had me in tears. I was genuinely gutted for him – I never thought I’d say that.

Normal service will be resumed as soon as I bump into one of the deniers though.

  11. Paul Murray’s in then Paul Murray walks away (repeat several times).

Ally’s never walkin’ away then Ally is walking away “within 48 hours”… and then Ally’s staying.

Walter Smith’s in then Walter’s in Nice, then Walter’s marchin’ from Bellahouston, now Walter’s walkin’ away.

What the dickens is going on with these people?? The only man emerging with any credit here is Sandy Jardine who can be trusted to walk consistently in the one direction, spittin’ out wasps as he goes.

kitbala. As I read your posts I think to myself this youn fella musy have left Scotland a long time ago ? Scotland imo is a small Country ruled over by Masonic and Orange lodges there is sight of then in all manner of decisions that are made. The fact of the matter is many Rangers fans dont see any problem of them starting over in the SPL many of there fans are delighted to be rid of there debt ( and why shouldnt they be ?) now the words Sporting integrity does not mean very much to them as they are the peepil and for years have done as they liked and they see no reason for that to change now. What is happenning at the moment imo is a well orchastrated plan is being carried out and very littled is being said in Scotland against that plan.H.H..

Someone please give me a simple answer to my friend, not a Rangers or Celtic supporter, as to why Rangers should be punished, in his words “why punish the fans, it wasn’t their fault, it was people in management”

Thats like Bruce Springsteen robbing a bank being sent to jail and his fans saying why punish us. It’s purely a state of mind. They will get over it and go and watch bon Jovi or Airdrie Utd FC in the future………its only entertainment…….aye rite!

    Hi fellow CQNers,

I wanted to tell you of the passing of my father, Myles McBride. My dad was buried at st. Ignatius today,Tuesday. My dad was only 74, but was a diehard Celtic fan. One of the proudest days of his life was when I signed for the bhoys in 1988. My dad travelled to Lisbon, saw the 7-1 game, and followed Celtic on the Wishy emerald bus on many trips. My da was eating jelly and ice cream long before many of us.

My dad loved his family, his faith,Celtic, and Kerrykeel in beautiful Donegal.

I will miss him very much. Another good Tim has left this world.

Thanks Paul for allowing me to use this wonderful avenue to share my feelings.

    God bless.

    Sean McBride

“Walter would the SFA statement yesterday, regarding EBT’s and Illegal duel contracts have had anything to do with you walking away?”

  25. Pointless buying a club that has nowehere to play for at least a year, and even when they return they need to start at the bottom tier of the league. Might as well wait, buy the assets at leisure, and a lot cheaper, over next few months and plan for 2013/14.
