Final deck clearing for deadline day

1075

The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far.  Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids.  Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.

Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season.  Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.

We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him.  He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement.  No promises, of course!

Stay tuned throughout the day.  If we have another ‘Robbie Keane Day’ when the CQN server takes a battering I’ll update the Facebook page and Twitter.

Braga winger Helder Barbosa is in talks with Celtic…

Luke Shanley on Sky mentioned him and Ambrose as possible signings. Only after he went through the 4th division sides extensive list of targets

  4. Y’know, if I was a bitter person I’d be wondering why PL did not have enough confidence in NL to get The Bhoys this far and make some signings earlier on and thus they’d have more time to settle in.

But I’m not bitter. Just bemused. We had faith. Why not PL?

Anyway….just thinking out loud. Who knows. Who cares. Here we are. In the group stages, and being thoroughly ignored and/or dissed by the msm.

    Nothin new there, then!

“One thing I won’t do is, take the easy way out and jump on the band wagon to curry favor with the mob.”

There’s a band wagon that’s attracted a mob dedicated to praising Celtic????

When’s it to be seen, this bandwagon? I keep missing it.

Does the Daily Record publicise when it’s in town?

I think the fact that we let Toshney go out on loan before we qualified for the CL is an indication that we are going with Rogne, Wilson, Lustig, Mulgrew and Wanyama for this years central back positions. Blackmann has also been recently recruited.

I think that the acquisition of Ibrahim and the emergence of Twardzik and Mc Geough will stop any midfield acquisitions.

The emergence of Watt and that Stokes was not moved on I cant see a striker of note coming either.

    Hail Hail

I’m happy with the first part of the prize. I have to go for lunch now, all this work has given me an appetite. :) (thumbsup)

  8. Malone Bhoy : Do you think we should have paid £4million and upwards for Rhodes last year then. I don’t, you make it sound like we could have got him really cheaply last year, £4million and upwards is not cheap Celtic I would say.

    Bada Bing,

Is he not cup tied ?

I believe he is, as Braga are still in the competition.

we have a business that needs some £60M revenue to break even, and Europa League and Domestic football doesn’t deliver that.

That is not what we have been told since Peter Lawwell took office

  11. Alot of Twitter activity about Marvin Ogunjimi. I dont know why as he went to Standard Liege on loan from Mallorca in June.

looking forward to tomorrow’s game and hopefully young mr Watt will get a start, I haven’t seen him in the flesh yet and he looks a real prospect. I wonder how many goals he would score for a team like huddersfield, not belitt’ling Jordan Rhodes but i think we already have a better player.

For those that watch soccer am, i wouldn’t be surprised if his juggling act on the touchline was featured in the showboating section.

  13. The nature of the transfer window is a factor in when signings are made. Its cat and mouse when all the parties involved know the window will slam shut (and it always slams) at a certain time. Why cave in during a negotiations when you know you can pressure the other if he wants to sell or he wants to buy with the looming SLAM. A lot of earlier deals are free’s or no brainer offers at max value (in the sellers view). Would we get more than 6m for Ki, a squad player with us?

  14. Armagedon and social unrest will be nothing compared to the riots if you sell Paddy McCourt.

    You have been warned.

  15. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

Every agent in the country, if not Europe will be on the phone to CP to see if we are interested in every available footballer, so how is that news Neilly?

  16. I see the STV site has Craig Brown calling for more protection from the refs for his flair players, after Hearts defenders subjected them to a kicking.

Wonder if Craig remembers our opening game against the Dons when Calum Murray offered no protection?

The article on the STV site states:-

“Brown’s opposite number in the Hearts dugout, John McGlynn, was ironically the last manager to make a similar plea for protection from officials, after David Templeton received some rough treatment at the hands of Hibernian.”

I think the SPL managers could save a lot of hot air if they just had a quiet word with their own defenders.
