Final deck clearing for deadline day

1075

The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far.  Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids.  Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.

Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season.  Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.

We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him.  He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement.  No promises, of course!

Stay tuned throughout the day.  If we have another ‘Robbie Keane Day’ when the CQN server takes a battering I’ll update the Facebook page and Twitter.

I bet Neils Phone will be busy today :))

But not as busy as fat sally’s and chuck’s yesterday :)

  3. Hate being negative but Daryl Murphy, never was and never will be good enough. Best of luck to him but he was one of the most confusing signings ever. His previous record and reputation gave no reason for him ever being a target for a club like Celtic.

Braga player won’t be “cup-tied” if we do sign him,as playing in the CL qualifying games doesn’t count.

The amount of apostrophe abuse could scar us for life and see us ending up as teacher’s or journalist’s or something similar, if there is anything similar ….maybe people who teach journalist’s or people who write storie’s about teacher’s and apostrophe’s.

It is a myth that Ostriches bury their heads in the sand. this myth was first spread by Pliny Keevins the Elder in the Epiousios Arkheion

  13. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

At the approach of trouble, ostriches will lie low and press their long necks to the ground in an attempt to become less visible. Their plumage blends well with sandy soil and, from a distance, gives the appearance that they have buried their heads in the sand.

Use your imagination for goodness sake

What about a statement saying Celtic have lost complete faith in the Scottish football Association and government and The police with regards the offensive behaviour bill and that the SFA´s punishment towards somebody that induced death threats and police intervention to prevent one of Scotlands stadium being burned to the ground and note the lack of comment by these bodies at the clemency that has been shown to one of its biggest perpetrators

I’m playing catch-up,but this is a belter of a post.

We should NOT be sitting on our hands hoping that the wronged parties,ie,Messrs Drysdale and Hutton, come out fighting.

This is a simple moral question, and Celtic must back them up.

And be seen to do so

I do believe Rhodes at £4m would be a steal. Give it a year and he’ll be going elsewhere for £12 million. He’s a better player than Fletcher.

  18. The Battered Bunnet on

We went into the second half of last season’s campaign with the following strikers:

    Hooper

    Stokes

    Samaras (arguably)

    Bangura

    Brozek

Bangura has been returned to sender at considerable cost

Brozek took a tour of the city, had a couple of pints with Estadio down Sharkey’s, then disappeared. (no connection should be inferred)

Murphy, who was on loan last season, returned in the summer, played a couple of games and has skied the park again.

Meanwhile Stokes is injured, leaving us reliant on exciting youth team player Tony Watt to make up a pairing up front with Hooper when Samaras is played on the left (which most acknowledge to be his best position)

Going into a first Champions League campaign in 4 years, it seems unlikely that the club would rely upon good luck with injuries and the precosity of an 18 year old to sustain a challenge.

If we have not signed a capable forward by close of play today I will eat my bunnet.

At the back, the situation is equally discomitting.

    We have packed off:

    Loovens

    Majstorovic

    Cha

    Wilson (M)

while last season’s loanees O’Dea and Hooiveld have left, and young Toshney has been loaned out.

Bunnet on the back boiler again, just in case.

We have, in effect, released a back 4 and a strike force from the squad as of 1st February, while releasing one keeper – Cervi – and signing another – Forster – permanently.

A decent central midfielder – Ki – has also left, with Swansea gifting us £6M in exchange. Good business.

I’m all for cutting out the deadwood, and a fair amount of it has been cut, but we need at least 3 first team players in the next 9 hours or we’re running too lean.

    Get motoring Peter.

  21. Okay, the votes are in – the birthday party is cancelled you heartless people.

I shall plead the Sevconian defence – someone else made the decision to spend that money that we couldn’t afford so it’s not my fault. Although I benefit directly from this spending, I have been punished enough. Anyone pointing out that I have not yet been punished for this overspend shall be shouted down.
