Find how best to use Scott Brown

815

Neil Lennon will be delighted to have secured his captain, Scott Brown, on a new long-term contract which sees the player tied to the club until after his 30th birthday in 2015, with the club having an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

Scott joined Celtic in 2007 and played central midfield until last season, when he was occasionally used wide right, to great effect.  Reflecting some of the conversations we had earlier this week with Georgios Samaras, who has recently been a revelation wide-left after years of frustration as part of a front pairing, Scott seemed to revel in the space the wider position allowed him to exploit.

Before joining Celtic Scott made his name playing almost as an auxiliary striker at Hibernian, where he would burst into the box with well-timed runs but at Celtic he is more commonly anchored in a defensive midfield role.  As a consequence, despite having played more games for Celtic than Hibs, and playing for a team who attack far more often, he has still to match his Hibs goals scored total at Celtic.

Will Wishart now be disclosing private conversations he has had with players from other teams? I think not.

    What a plank.

Haven’t seen the penalty yet but somehow knew they would get one before the game kicked off.

Lets see if there’s a media outcry……nah what’s the point.

We don’t need any media outcry, just a good lawyer. If we can pick up the tab for Broonies agent we can pick up the tab for his lawyer to take action against Wishart.

  12. James Forrest is Lennon on

First up, on Scott Brown on Clyde … yep I think a letter to Celtic and another to Wishart’s union bosses is in order.

And what WAS that on Radio Scotland just then with Fat Jabba? Did anyone just hear that? Was that a joke? And if it was, what was the punchline?

Or does Traynor NOT know Brown’s story is on the Celtic website, in all the papers, on the news websites …. INCLUDING BBC SCOTLAND’S?

No, I guess I just don’t get the joke. But I do know he IS a joke.

  13. Scott Brown has been a poor player and a rubbish captain – I cant believe we are keeping him. Injuries form and just plain lacking basic footballing abilities – stunned.

Now I guess we have to watch him waltz back back into the team to misplace his passes, mistime his tackles and expose his team mates due to lack of positional sense. Oh and give him the arm band while we are at it and a pay rise to reflect the great success we have had over the past 3 years.

Rewarding failure – I guess if he can come up with another Broonie / against the manky mob that makes it alright.

    Kojo,

How do you know for sure that Scott Brown was in contact with Newcastle United? Are you Fraser Wishart?

  17. The Singing Detective on

    Sir Kojo.

It is problematic that Broonie is our Captain…it makes it difficult not to select him, even when his form does not justify it,or another team formation would be preferable..

This is an unfortunate hangover from the Mowbray era, when really he was the only suitable candidate around for the role, other than Artur..

Joe Ledley would be a much better candidate for the role,as he is virtually an automatic selection, due to his versatility and excellent attitude..also,he has the gravitas required..and appears to be pleasingly tattoo-free ?

Another thingy..Folk have been remarking on the restrained nature of our players’ goal celebrations lately…

This is an excellent development, and a return to the MON era…no need to risk injury or loss of focus, with over-exuberant ‘celebrations’…I hope Brown takes note,as he has been out injured since his own idiotic celebration after Hooper’s goal against the Huns…but perhaps I am being unrealistic ?

    Yer Pal,who thinks you’re a Brammer…!

Do you think there will be repercussions for Jim McIntyre’s comments? No where near as outspoken compared to what TB said after the Inverness game and, unless I am mistaken, he seems to have had no action taken against him.

I’m sure Broony’s agent did his job looking for club’s for his client

I do agree with your assessment of what he is worth, can’t see any club paying millions for a player who has limited attacking ability and a poor injury record

He does have energy, commitment and works hard defensively, when we play the GA on the 28th he would be in my team long before Forrest and Ki

It would be great to start with two scoring forwards in every game, but you know and I know that that will not always happen. For two of our best recent performances, Hibs away in the Cup, and Rennes at home, Stokes started, Hooper came on and we scored four and three. Now, it is true that we scored five against the Pars at the Park, with Hoops getting a hat trick, and long may that continue when playing at home. Remember that old adage about playing one game at a time, lets pick one team at a time. One thing we will agree on though is a general rule that we do not let Broonie loose in the middle of the park with two wide men hogging the touchlines. Neil needs to pick the best team for the game in hand, Brown may or not be in it all the time, but he will be in it tomorrow!
