Finding a keeper should be the easy part of the week

449

I think we all got that sinking feeling when we heard it was a knee injury, which kept Craig Gordon from appearing in the second half on Saturday. So news today that the player hopes to be back this season is a great relief. It still, however, mean we need to make moves to secure a replacement.

Dorus de Vries did well on Saturday, in particular with his distribution from feet, but we cannot play have a season with only a 37-year-old keeper. This will be causing some stress at Celtic Park right now but it should not be too difficult a position to fill. Fraser Forster was fifth choice at Newcastle when we loaned him.

There are plenty of clubs with three or more good keepers. My preference would be to get someone with the profile of Fraser; someone we could mould with an eye on a future permanent move, but I suspect this is likely to be a risk-averse appointment and we’ll get someone the manager is confident can do the job.

Resisting the temptation to talk about Charly for now. There’s lots to say on the subject, but let’s wait for things to formalize.

Young KT is a hardy bhoy, the amount of clatterings he takes, he often seems to be targeted but keeps on playing.

It’s ironic that his injury on Saturday seemed to be a twist when trying to clear the ball.

    Shotstopper not showstopper.

I think I prefer showstopper – imagine big Craig singing along to the Broad Black Brimmer ?

    Naw….me neither… :-)))

  4. We have 11 midfielders soon to be 12 if Charly signs, not counting the ones on loan, a wealth of riches, or a bit bloated?

    Time for a trim?

  5. Is P67 hinting that we will sign Freddie Woodman on loan from Newcastle with his ‘someone of the same profile’ as Fraser Forster?

England U21 keeper, U20 WC winner, on loan at Killie last season, wanted by Aberdeen to deputise for the injured Lewis this window.

The amount of clattering’s KT who is Scotlands best player takes without recrimination is scandalous.

He frequently is subjecedt to tackles that would merit red cards but often the culprit goes unpunished.

If he was a hun he would be a national treasure and there would be a huge outcry and debate about protecting star players.

    Protecting players –

Pep Guardiola on Italian tele – talking functional Italian ( from his time at Brescia / Roma ) -talking about Football needing to do something re protecting football players from assault and injury . That was followed by a film clip of Mane being subjected to a potential leg breaker by a Cardiff player . That was then followed by somebody representing Cardiff saying — This is England – it’s a man’s game here -if he doesn’t like it then go somewhere else . .

  9. Looking forward to giving the diet huns a severe doing tomorrow night.

Last time Lafferty rag dolled our defense so i hope Brendan has told our centre backs to go right through him early and let him know there is a price to pay.

Our tempo and energy has to be higher than it has been lately.

Would like Kouassi to start over McGregor as they outmuscled us in the midfield area at Tynecastle.

    Moussa to silence the doubters.

  10. This ‘n’ That. CHARLIEBHOY – great original post. AULDHEID – as ever, superb SFM blog report. Cap doffed. We are indeed privileged to have you on our side.

Re transfers, Brendan wants, in his words, ‘Quality for Europe.’ I can’t see Hendry in that class. It was a bit disturbing that Simunovic clearly did not wish to join his team mates in acknowledging the fans after the Hibs game, and that Brendan was clearly displeased. I wonder if there is something deeper underlying that? As for Dembele, I thought I was watching Carlton Cole. Complete passenger – what on earth has happened to him?

Someone needs to tell that guy that Cardiff is in Wales. He cannot be one of the fans who took exception to Man.City fans chanting Engerland yesterday.

Incidentally, watching English League games one wonders if they have no imagination when it comes to the fans singing. Give me Celtic Park any day for really entertaining fan music.

yep. Just wait until KT has to pull out of a Scotland squad because of injury inflicted by these cluggers. Don’t think he;ll get a lot of sympathy.

Agree with your post about Kouassi/mcGregor too. Mac|Gregor has been a peripheral figure in the last couple of games. We will need more than pretty football against Hearts.

  13. Dembeles problems are Brendan inflicted. You only have to look at him to know he is a player who needs games.

Playing regularly last season,he was immense. You cannot stop and start with strikers.

  14. BR says at press conference more players coming in, no more leaving.

10 players out injured, only 16 left in squad (17 if we sign Musonda today) including one keeper.

Not surprised he’s decided no more departures.

  15. Turkeybhoy on 29th January 2018 2:34 pm

Dembele’s problem is his recurring injuries.

Since he pulled his hamstring at Dens in March he’s hardly played. Every time he comes back he gets injured again, Sevco in the cup semi, Linfield in CL qualifier, Motherwell in cup final (not a recurrence just an act of thuggery).

When he’s played this season he has looked as if he’s not confident in his own body and isn’t playing at full speed.

Careful what you wish for, I expect Dickson would have no problem taking the position and completing the whitewash, the most culpable, potentially facing criminal investigation so nothing to lose and everything to gain. Bury it well enough and there’s a place beside Ogilvie waiting in UEFA who are always looking for talented fixers.

  20. CANAMALAR @ 3:06 PM,

Yes, that’s a pessimistic outlook and of course, having worked through this, you would know.

It certainly was my first concern when the SMSM started shouting for Regan’s head… five years too late. Certainly Dickinson seems be manoeuvring himself into a SFA position.

Yet, I’ve a feeling the Blazers aren’t getting their own way at the moment.

I’m not sure we would have seen headlines like these, from the Daily Record,₩ when project “Strong Rangers was in full flow….

“SFA needs independent thinkers to hold Stewart Regan accountable and turn around a sinking ship – Gordon Waddell”

Still, we have seen so many hidden agendas and sleekit moves from them… I’ll certainly heed your concerns.
