Finding a keeper should be the easy part of the week

449

I think we all got that sinking feeling when we heard it was a knee injury, which kept Craig Gordon from appearing in the second half on Saturday. So news today that the player hopes to be back this season is a great relief. It still, however, mean we need to make moves to secure a replacement.

Dorus de Vries did well on Saturday, in particular with his distribution from feet, but we cannot play have a season with only a 37-year-old keeper. This will be causing some stress at Celtic Park right now but it should not be too difficult a position to fill. Fraser Forster was fifth choice at Newcastle when we loaned him.

There are plenty of clubs with three or more good keepers. My preference would be to get someone with the profile of Fraser; someone we could mould with an eye on a future permanent move, but I suspect this is likely to be a risk-averse appointment and we’ll get someone the manager is confident can do the job.

Resisting the temptation to talk about Charly for now. There’s lots to say on the subject, but let’s wait for things to formalize.

    Brilliant

Albion Rovers v St Jo tonight, St Johnstone had sold over 1000 tickets for the origanal Saturday fixture hope the Rovers get a wee turn tonight but 15/8 St Johnstone with both teams scoring was far too tempting

  2. Bon Accord Cream Soda was the tops. Bon Accord used to come round my street with a weekly delivery and my Ma allowed us a bottle each. Obviously not enough, hence the proliferation of light-fingered fizzy juice thieves down my way.

Creamola foam – my brothers and I were never keen on hillwalking with my dad (he was a real proper walker) but once we knew there was a tin of creamola foam and a few Aztec bars in his rucksack, the picture changed! Creamola foam made with water from a mountain burn…ahh, memories, how long will you stay to haunt my days!

  3. Jimbob – you’re not impressed- can’t say i’m over the moon either

in your opinion who do you think we should be buying and how much of the ‘awash’ should we be spending.

Our Club awash with money, and what do we get another loanee,What a miserable shower we have ruining our Club

One or two in our support as well

  5. Long time, no visit. Looks like an underwhelming yet highly achieving Celtic are about to get the creative shot we’ve been crying out for – Musonda, Rogic and Roberts added to Forrest and Sinclair will be a massive boost for us all in a period when the backward and sideways pass has become de rigeur for us.

Hope it brings the best out of Moussa and big Eddie too.

I’m expecting Comperr to be a big part of the second half of the season too. Win a record breaking treble and be competitive against Zenit, who are a very good side…

If we signed Musonda for mega millions then he moved after 12 months is not better not spending mega millions and have him for next 18months ?

Ownership is vastly overrated. It’s all about streaming these days

  8. Until the madness of Englandshire and beyond corrects itself, the 18 month loan thing for ‘potential we couldn’t buy currently’ will be a big part of the strategy.

Taking those from PSG, Man City and Chelsea ain’t bad stables to go shopping in.

At the same time the stupid Sevconians are shopping at QPR, Nottingham Forrest, Brighton and Norwich to name a few….

  9. To win 7 league championships in a row will be an amazing achievement. Anything beyond 7 will be incredible. The FoD are gathering regardless of what Phil says. There is no way that they will let us win 10 iar. Hh

I think trying to get players to sign up for us is getting more and more problematic

Take what we can get and me for one thought Musonda was out of our reach as he has been in and about Contes first team squad recently

Philbhoy, our transfers for whatever reason , never seem to be done quickly.

Another very tough match for us tomorrow. Levein will get his players to take advantage of the ref’s leniency to their benefit.

If that big streak of pish is playing tomorrow night, our players should be doing everything legitamely possible to wind him up . He wont be able to deal with it . Ever since his tackle on Andreas Hinkel eight years ago , he has got away with numerous misdemeanours against us.

Tontine Tim, marvellous post about how Rangers became the horrible club they were.

*It’s important to note that they didnae do it alone. When we burst onto the scene we were tolerated as we played a brand of football that excited and entertained the fans.

In only our 10th year in existence we won our 4th League title in a competition that was only in its 8th season. We then embarked on a record setting 6-in-a-row run, also, we were instrumental in setting up the SFL and in Wullie Maley and John Glass had 2 very powerful men who would not be intimidated too easily, so ABC was soon created.

By this time though the original establishment club, the Spiders, had remained amateur and were no longer a power house and their favoured successors Third Lanark failed tae live up tae their promise with only one solitary title which would remain their one and only until their demise in that great year of 1967.

The kinning park oarsmen who had been around for 16 years before us but with only 1/2 a title tae their name soon went on a successful run culminating in 4-in-a-row. As such, they became the favourite of the SFA tae stop the “tottie howkers’, with any and all assistance in the process.

However, nobody legislated for the acquisition of 3 shipyards by Yorkshire born (probably had big hauns tae lol) and Edinburgh University educated Edward Harland and Hamburg born and Liverpool Institute educated Gustav Wilhelm Wolffe (clock his middle name lol), who concerned with the political instability in Ireland, amalgamated the 3 companies and redeveloped their yards’, bringing with them their employees from the black north.

With their arrival came the inevitable ebbing and flowing of cultural, political, social and economic influences, all of which might be said to have contributed to a version of britishness unique solely to the north east of Ireland.

Thereafter the 7th largest town in the country with its traditional lower working class population was never the same.

primrose-ure, a former Lord Provost of Glasgow, was a crafty politician and businessman as well as being a close friend of unionist politician Dublin born carson, he of “provisional government for the protestant province of Ulster” fame, and saw a unique opportunity to cash in on the bigotry and racism. Sad to say Scotland has suffered by his greed and voracity. the arch-bigot was deid 3 years after implementing his distasteful policy.

That move by the then deidco chairman more than any created the atmosphere which grips (pun intended) Scottish football, and as I said he did not do it alone. Look no further than the current residents of the national stadium who encouraged every distasteful move they made.

  16. Ok maybe I’m off my engines but I’m still surprised Chelsea are allowing Charly up the road for 18 months given he’s on the verge of their first team and Willian is injured. So, I have a theory….

Last month there was a story doing the rounds that an English club have offered a young player £40k per week when he turns 16. (Chelsea are famous for that kind of thing)

Karamoko Dembele is the most sought after young player on the British isles and beyond. He captains both English and Scottish youth teams.

Peter Lawwell and Brendan were in London last month together.

I’m thinking we’ve done a deal with Chelsea offering them first refusal on Karamoko when the time comes in exchange for a player or two in between.

    Just a theory.

  17. Philbhoy and Dallas

Is it not possible that because you are more interested from the outset in our possible transfers that you are then more aware of how long they take? ie maybe just the same as all other clubs but it feels longer because we are taking a much close interest.
