Finding Ability

capture-20170321-115143

Most of us do little at the back end of the Celtic FC Foundation, but today, on World Down Syndrome Day, Sky Sports broadcast a video on what your Foundation is doing through its Ability Counts programme.

The Foundation started Ability Counts in 2010 to aid children people with Down syndrome but has recently been extended to cater for young people with autism and adults with Down syndrome. Sky show Alex O’Donnell (above), who works as a tour guide at Celtic Park.

There is a message in this for all of us. Ability Counts promotes inclusion among people who have often been excluded. They run weekly football coaching and dance sessions, and further events across the year.

You are asked to support the work of the Foundation so often, and thank you to all who do, but you will never know the stories behind all the lives you improve.  Your Foundation is doing incredible work, not only in the most impoverished places on earth, but

Keep up the great work – and check out the Sky video, you’ll be glad you did .

Jo Berry was the one who met with Patrick Magee who was convicted of planting the Brighton bomb. They engaged in a number of public discussions re why it had happened and the impact that it had had on each of them.

Over here on the “News” it was revisionism at its very best. Apparently the IRA started it all and Martin Mc Guinness was personally responsible for every death that occurred as a result of the troubles. Catholics/Nationalists were never 2nd class citizens, the RUC never attacked peaceful civil rights marches and events like Bloody Sunday, Ballymurphy Massacre, Mc Gurks Bar et al are all figments of our collective and flawed imaginations. Even had one zoomer who was lamenting the “information” that Mairtin took to his grave with him yet these same people are the ones to refuse funding for legacy inquests into state related collusion deaths carried out by a variety of “loyalist” groupings on information from the British Army, UDR and RUC.

Begrudgers doesn’t even begin to describe them. They live life in a parallel Universe and would rather live in the past than look to the future, rather have their pockets picked consistently by their”own”DUP than even contemplate a shared and equal future.

Like the same flies you couldn’t burn their necks with a blow torch.

Mairtins legacy has been given a fairer more balanced airing by his erstwhile opponents like Alistair Campbell, Jonathan Powell and indeed the BBC nationally than the regional “broadcaster/s”.Local BBC feels that in the interests of “balance” it has to pander to the Neanderthals in our midst (and it appears that there are many).

    RIP Mairtin

Yes I have seen Jo Berry with Magee before

Came across as a very brave woman,I dont think I personally could be as forgiving as her.But well done to her for that and for her comment on McGuinness today.

Like you I listened to a lot of stuff about McGuinness today, the Brit politicians May,Tebbit and Major ( were the three I heard) were very poor, but were probably playing to their own “little englander” audience

As you say he didnt exist in a vacuum. They were extraordinary times and he had an extraordinary life and journey in life.

I think it was very brave of him to meet the Queen and shake her hand, that took a lot and left him open to taunts of traitor etc from the sidelines.

At the end of the day the dirtiest word in the English language starts with a C….. Its C for Compromise and thats what McGuinness was able to do,Compromise for the greater good.

Both of my daughters live in Glasgow now, the younger one at City of Glasgow College. I was walking along George Street with them a few months ago, and the younger one was getting me to point out where I went in the Strathclyde buildings. I pointed out The RC, the McCance and the Livi tower, and then said “c’mon and I will show you the building I spent most time in”. I went round the corner in to Albion Street thinking that it was probably gone now…….. but no, there it was, The Press Bar. Gone? It hasn’t changed a bit. Think my pint cost a bit more than 25p this time. Funny sitting in there with my daughters. Good times, as you say. :)))

She is always good, but she had a very interesting anecdote re J H and MMcG.

It was told to her by Hume.

It recalled a time when he had a young Martin in his office and talked to him about going down the same route as himself, i.e., the Civil Rights way.

When he was finished, Martin stood up and said, “Is that all?” and walked out.

As usual I appreciate your efforts mate.

Converting the refereeing in Scottish football as a consumer service that can be influenced by the customer would require the buy in of the SFA, SPL and SFPL and therein lies the problem. The SFA and the OF want the bigot buck.

The bigot buck implies condoning cheating which is something Celtic PLC are prepared to tolerate as a sunk cost. Therefore end of discussion.

However, a more salient point and one that I mentioned many times on CQN is video assisted refereeing. I couldn’t agree more about the discussion in the podcast where Celtic beat St. Johnstone 5-2 where the MIB gave Celtic a penalty. It hit the defender on the hip and every St. Johnstone fan knew it was NOT a penalty even before Dembele placed the ball because

they were all checking the BT replay on their smartphones according to Cosgrove. Quite believable.

The reason we dont have video assisted refereeing is because it begins at the top.

FIFA want to coach refs before World Cup games.

    Ditto UEFA

    Completely commensurate with Scottish mibbery.

That needs to change after the next WC else football is doomed as a sport.

    In my opinion.:)

    Agreed.

    Without reservation.

I suggested some time ago that the Celtic Trust should be running with this issue.

A guaranteed way of promoting the issue and at the same time promoting themselves.

I sometimes wonder what effect the ref`s wee earphones have on decisions.

What purpose do they serve ,if not to pass info to the ref.

I have always suspected the wee Collum`s unsighted penalty decision was relayed to him through his earphone.

    Just a suspicion.
