Fine-tuning Tommy Burns methods

Almost exactly 10 years after Celtic fans alleged Porto’s adherence to the rules was less than faithful, when they won the Uefa Cup after extra time, their creative genius, Deco, failed a drugs test a substance used to mask performance-enhancing substances were found in his blood.

Is anyone surprised?

Congratulations to the Celtic under-20 team on securing league and cup double, the fourth consecutive season Celtic youths have recorded this achievement.  John Kennedy and Stevie Frail’s operation is years ahead of what was previously known as their domestic competition.

Celtic have been fine-tuning youth development since Tommy Burns returned from Amsterdam all those years ago with new strategies, some of which are still being used.  The cream graduate as Champions League players, but Celtic are pretty much running elite-level youth development in Scotland, a fact made clear when you look at the enormous number of Celtic training academy graduates earning a living across the rest of the league.

It used to be the case that Celtic wasted young talent.  Perceived wisdom was “Go to Aberdeen or Dundee United, they’ll turn you into a player”.  The opposite is now true.

Apologies if already mentioned, but I noticed, that the proposed Hotel development at the London Road junction has been put on ice, by the developer, who I will not name on here. I suspect money is the problem given that the site is shovel ready, with planning permission. Not sure who owns the site at the moment but I think it is still City Hall. It will still happen of course but may require new input from elsewhere.

SSB don’t realise few people listen now. We get the gist from CQN. IT’S AN AFFRONT of a stage managed propaganda show. Not out of place in N Korea.. In SSB All is well in Sevco. Nothing has happened. All Celtic supporters are bampots. For the sake of your health, like STV, the printed media… Avoid…

  6. Has anyone ever met this idiot Laurie who talks the biggest load of nonsense you’ll ever hear? Is he really a Tim?

I guess that’s why Clyde allow him such regular access….but I have met very few fans who remotely agree with him.

    An utter tool!

  7. that u17s result was a blow to us , and a shot in the arm to them . was really shocked at the result as I thought our youth set up was streets ahead of them . still think we should be trying to put as much of a gap as we can between us and them , while we have the leagues advantage over them , cos they will be back ,and as ive said on many occasions , any position other than champions is no good to them , they need the European reward to survive , the blazers haven’t gone to all this trouble to see them not in Europe .

Problem with Lawrie and others phoning/ posting on comments pages (not CQN) is this whole Upper LL situation is getting dragged out of all proportions.

Time for someone from the Club to make a clear/ concise statement as to why and if modernisation/ additional disabled/ Commonwealth Games work is part of the reason.

It is patently obvious that Laurie from Denistoun is SSB’s most useful idiot for them to class all of us as desperate to see games against that mob from Govan.

After seeing the images from the other night at Firhill I hope we never see them again and I don’t know one Celtic fan on here, on Facebook or from my life experience who does but SSB can always find them – funny that.

    celtic mac,

We were on last night about young players not coming through and you mentioned the spells that some from yester year spent in the rough and tumble of the juniors.

RTE had a programme of Football’s Next Star, in conjunction with Celtic.

Incidentally, the boy who won, played at Firhill on Monday.

Anyway, after the ten boys, who reached the final stage, which was at Lennoxtown, played their first game, a man of the match was chosen.

This boy had to chose a pal from the rest of the hopefulls.

He and his mate, as a reward, were taken to a luxury dpa and had the full five star treatment, plus an overnight.

The rest of the boys were returned to their digs, where they had to drum up for themselves.

At training the next morning, the two ” stars” were late on to the field and their work was considered ” sloppy” by the coaches.

It was a little example how being pampered reflected badly on their performance. They thought that they were made.

I think yer over reacting on that one, that U17 game was their biggest game this season, our bhoys will have learned a lesson, they as a new club got more out of it than us, big deal. A jot I did not give

Each to his own I guess, but the way I look at it, removing one of the vehicles for maintaining the public display of bigotry may help its demise. Get rid of sectarian parades too. Long-term job, but anything to drag some sections of society out of the 1600’s.

In any case, wanting it to happen is futile – they’re dead.

  26. The Club really shoot themselves in the foot on this one. A proper statement/ explanation on the official site ………….. and importantly a proper briefing of the Ticket Office staff who are dealing directly with the support.

Its obvious from various calls (and even posts on here) that ST holders are getting conflicting reasons for the movement in the ULL.

Someone posted it was from row W back (how many rows?) – all it does is allow thick SSB pundits to make sweeping statements like: Celtic are closing part of the stadium because season ticket sales are down!

Problem is – when fuds like Dee L say it often enough – some of the less enlightened (MSM readership) start to believe it.

Fair enough pal but you are the first person I’ve met or know who does.

I think the numbers in favour of these games is outweighed by those with reservations or a flat out desire never to see them again.

The other night really hit home for me and funnily enough me and a Jambo mate had had the same conversation along the lines of – what if they come back worse than they were before (talking about their supporters)?

Well I think we ain’t seen nothing yet.
