Firhill is the stage, fickle looking form

520

You can imagine the anticipation Celtic players as they arrived for training this morning for Saturday’s visit to Firhill. They must be bursting a gut, just desperate to get onto the field and do their stuff. You and I have seen lots of this team, but right now, today, they will have an edge that’s been missing for so long. They have questions to answer, points to prove and a league title to win.

Firhill will be their stage. If anyone at Lennoxtown is in doubt about the job required, I still have my boots, just let me at them.

It’s indicative of where we are that those two draws (Hamilton and Dundee) plunged us into a form crisis. Since the turn of the year we’ve won 9 out of 13 games, failing to win twice with 10 men, once away to our nearest challengers, and that awful Dundee game at Celtic Park. Were it not for the two red cards, I expect the dip in form would be scarcely noticeable.

Over the same period Aberdeen have had a far easier programme, playing only 9 games (in 9 weeks). They’ve won six of these games, including the last two, which has put a more respectable look on their form. It’s still not any better than Celtic’s, though.

We’re still playing fixture catch-up, as we’ve six games in the next five weeks, to Aberdeen’s four, but that’s the price of reaching the latter stages of cup competitions.

  1. I’m afraid bhoys that those expressing horror at the ‘Old Firm’ bandwagon are in the minority if my local CSC is anything to go by. Last night we had our usual meeting held every 2 weeks for the first time since Rangers (RIP) died we had standing room only. We had people coming to pay membership for this season in March which started in July/August. The interest in having RFC back (sic) is huge. Our Chairman asked why some were back the most consistent response to his question was ‘our biggest rivals are back’ no one in the room considers Aberdeen, Hearts ICT, Ross County etc. as rivals this is the reality. Our game against Hearts will fill a minibus, we could fill 4 coaches for the Scottish cup semi final. The majority either don’t know or care about the fact that this Rangers is not the old Rangers; they are a club which wears blue, plays out of Ibrox and has for the most part the same supporters. I’d would make you weep but I’d say if our CSC is anything to go by then that’s what a large number believe.

Now that ye know who the ‘real’ problem is to the Celtic support, a duplicious hierarchy who will take yer money with one hand, then pull the shutter down on yer head, with the other.

Maybe an idea would be to, canvass the blog to see who will support the board via, season book investment.

And, who would be willing to congregate in the Celtic Park car park on, season book renewal day, waving their season book money above their heads, captured on ‘live’ film by media cameras with, the pictures being transmitted onto a screen in the hierarchy board room.

How would that go down ?

  8. Effectively the board have been issued a challenge. The only way this can be satisfied is to do either of the following:

    – Explain why Shareholders should be carrying the burden of contacting UEFA. If there is a good enough reason I am sure people would listen

    – Explain that they have been or were always planning to contact UEFA

They have a right of reply.

Probably but I think ppl need to bear in mind that the online Celtic community is a distillation. I’ve seen suggestions that 10s of thousands won’t renew over this. It’s nonsense. I’d be amazed if it was more than 100s. The club know it unfortunately.

    Thomthetim,

There is nothing stopping the Plc going to the CFCB as per the resolution, this was and always has been the identified and proper route for the Plc to go, that is why it was requested.

To say the Plc have no recourse betrays a complete misunderstanding of the problem.

There is no catch 22, the resolution lays out the simple process required to achieve justice.

Wher I differ from BRTH’s opinion is that getting answers from the SFA was never an acceptable result. The resolution was written in plain English and too many do not properly remember the details or aim.

    A wee reminder

This AGM requests the Board exercise the provision cortained in the Procedural Rules coverning the UEFA Club Financial Control Body Article 10 with jurisdiction and investigation responsibilities identified in articles 3 & 11 (Note-1), by referring/bringing to the atitntion of the UEFA Club Financial control Body (CFCB), the licensing administration practices of lhe Scotthh Foolball Association (SFA), requesting the CFCB undertake a review and investigate the SFA’s implementation of UEFA & SFA license compliance requirements, with regard to qualification, administration and granting of licenses to compete in football competitions under both SFA and UEFA Jurisdiction, since the implementation of the Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations of 2010.

  12. Celtic supporters should make an announcement that, they will be withdrawing all financial input to the club as a gesture of their collective disgust at the club’s hierarchy for their – underhand assistance to Rangers cheating of, all Scottish football club’s and, their supporters.

  15. tomtheleedstim on

It’s worth remembering that if Celtic wanted to go to CFCB to get answers or to provoke an investigation they wouldn’t have to go much further than phoning Brian Quinn who sits on the body itself.

We couldn’t wish for a Celtic-minded representative on a more relevant UEFA body.

  16. So CFC have told Shareholders to approach the SFA individually, knowing full well the SFA won’t give them any answers? A fait accompli ,with the full blessing of the Celtic Board. We have cowards running our Club, too scared to stand up for the supporters, too scared to stand up to the Gang. Lawwell knows he won’t be there forever, that’s why he’s digging tunnels to a UEFA post, through joining various committees, only problem is,it doesn’t pay as well as we do. He is shit scared to raise issues that will make waves all over Europe,he wants to hide under his desk until the O.. F… are back next season. His time is up,he should have been bagged for allowing a novice to squander millions on a joke of a CL campaign alone. Bigger problem is DD lets Lawwell do whatever he wants, far too much power, with no accountability. We will be at the front door of Celtic Park very soon.

  17. On a different topic:

The English / Welsh top league always had one Achilles heal despite the mega money flow. Without fans it would be self defeating. Top games no matter the quality seem lacking if the ground is empty. They seems to have realised that and taken action by freezing ST prices and applying a cap on away ticket prices.

For the avoidance of doubt I agree wholly with Canamalar’s post at 10:44 – the essence and detail of Res 12 is right there for all to see.

The point I was making earlier was that by addressing formal questions to the SFA, which Celtic knew about, were copied in on, and which the SFA said they would answer was an essential part of the Res 12 process.

    Two things to remember:

    1. Stewart Regan is on record saying that after 31st March the entire Licensing process had nothing to do with the SFA or its officials.

    2. The whole point in going to the SFA was to give them the opportunity to respond to and clarify the issues outlined. The agreed thinking was that if they responded fully, there may be no need to go to CFCB as mentioned in the resolution.

Any reply could be digested, examined and considered and a decision then taken.

However, a key factor was that Celtic PLC would go to CFCB and not the shareholders as is now being suggested.

    Thinks for your concise reply.

At least now there is more awareness amongst the support and perhaps a wider consensus of how the general support can engage.

I have felt that the Celtic massive have been asleep at the wheel on this, or, perhaps Je Suis SFA was right. The stands will be packed when they ” return”.

I agree with you that the English fans are a major part of the appeal of the EPL

However, I don’t believe that the reductions are due to the Clubs bottling it. There are plenty of saps who will pay the £82 to see their club.

However, It’s well documented that they could let fans in for free and still increase their income because the tv deal is so huge.

They are literally just throwing fans some scraps from the table.

“20 is plenty? Have 30 and shut up”

There have also been some cynical fans who have suggested that clubs will cut the away support section to the minimum

What’s the point in having a PLC board, packed with billionaires when, they ‘plant’ a CEO who is, it seems accountable to no one and, has cart-blanch to pursue a ‘dodgy’ rout of player recruitment that has a bottom line, detrimental effect on the quality of the product that, supporters are asked to pay to watch on the pitch ?

And, this CEO lines his pockets to the tune of, £1 million of Celtic fans money every season despite, 40,000 empty seats and, a further 12,000 fans lost off the waiting list.
