Firhill is the stage, fickle looking form

520

You can imagine the anticipation Celtic players as they arrived for training this morning for Saturday’s visit to Firhill. They must be bursting a gut, just desperate to get onto the field and do their stuff. You and I have seen lots of this team, but right now, today, they will have an edge that’s been missing for so long. They have questions to answer, points to prove and a league title to win.

Firhill will be their stage. If anyone at Lennoxtown is in doubt about the job required, I still have my boots, just let me at them.

It’s indicative of where we are that those two draws (Hamilton and Dundee) plunged us into a form crisis. Since the turn of the year we’ve won 9 out of 13 games, failing to win twice with 10 men, once away to our nearest challengers, and that awful Dundee game at Celtic Park. Were it not for the two red cards, I expect the dip in form would be scarcely noticeable.

Over the same period Aberdeen have had a far easier programme, playing only 9 games (in 9 weeks). They’ve won six of these games, including the last two, which has put a more respectable look on their form. It’s still not any better than Celtic’s, though.

We’re still playing fixture catch-up, as we’ve six games in the next five weeks, to Aberdeen’s four, but that’s the price of reaching the latter stages of cup competitions.

    Newradbhoy,

We have been excluded from the boards agenda, no point crying about it, they obviously believe they can do and act as they please without consequence on the res12 issue, they have supposedly been talking to the SFA since last April, as yet we have been told nothing of interest about these ongoing discussions, we were advised that important information was received in January and we would be advised that week, we are still waiting to hear back. That’s the long and short of it, we decided when we heard nothing after a couple of weeks that the board are working to a different agenda.

PS The reason you are posting is because you cannot resist a challenge……..and you certainly have one here!!

  8. Celtic have not recovered from a goal down in the league since early October against Accies, only done it twice all season.

Now sheep are right on our tails were going to spring into action?

All for getting behind the team but FFS

Qualitys that helps win leagues is heart and fight, let’s hope we find some of both

  9. Have we seen the last of our erstwhile (Louis Vuitton) carpetbagger, Mr Carlton Cole?

Signed until June 2017 and back home for ‘personal reasons’ – Carlton will be seen near the Calton again methinks.

He may be in Mayfair, to be fair.

    Toor a loo

As a matter of interest ( and fairness) how many games have Aberdeen ( and other teams) won and how many of those victories came after going behind?

You might have a good point but without knowing the above statistics, it is hard to say.

    Toor a loo,

Have we actually went a goal down in the league since??

  12. Paul67 et al

Another factor we might want to take into account, are two International games following on from our games against Partick and Killie. Scotland are playing both Norway and Denmark, neither who have qualified for the Euros, nor have Scotland. Gordon Strachan, is likely to include 4-5 Celtic players, including Brown and Mulgrew two of his favourites. Other players are likely to be involved elsewhere, and as a result we will not know what players are available for the Hearts game. Three points at Firhill required!

When things quite obviously are far from perfect at the club, shoot the messenger.

    Happy clapper logic.

Never mind that our host has hinted at big changes in the summer. Takes a lot for it to get to that stage.

Never mind speculating on the reasons. Might as well close the blog to comments with the exception of posts on the games legislative issues.

  14. Geordie Munro on

    Yup,

A quick check suggests we have indeed never came back from a goal down since early October.

Primarily this is due to never losing the first goal.

Although other factors might need considered :D

I have been to every Home, League game this season and have seen Celtic play very well for parts of most games, very well for the greater part of a small number of games and very badly for most of an even smaller number .

Maybe it is Human Nature ( often quoted but seldom explained) but , were I to judge by the majority of commentary ( here and the MSSM), I would think that Celtic were dreadful ( brutal seems to be the buzz word) in nearly every minute of every game. If we are going to err, perhaps, as Celtic Supporters, we should err in favour of our team.

We have lost games since October so we must have been a goal down and failed to come back!

  17. Goal down point being that previous seasons we fought to the last and some times came out on top and others not but this season when something goes against us we tend not to recover

  18. Rock Tree Bhoy on

We’ve gone thru a bad patch and now its over, after Morton thats my thoughts on where we are now. Every Celtic team I’ve ever supported (the 70’s) has had form dips so why should this one be an exception. Worst case scenario is we blow the league, but if that happens we will get a new manager. An optimist would say we are in a win win – either we celebrate 5 in a row or we celebrate getting a new manager.

I see today’s article is the ‘modern’ day equivalent of Paul’s “…There’s a buzz around the training ground…”

Those words and Paul67’s today send cols shivers down the spine.

Paul McStays lack of leadership qualities where what for me anyway, stopped him from being the great he ought to have been, and would have been were he coached in Germany.

Today’s call to arms has me similarly crawling under the sofa in anticipation of yet another insipid performance on the pitch, where it counts.

No not ‘brutal’ you’re right, but unpredictable and mis-firing.

It’s those characteristics that ‘puts the wind up you’

Truth is, it is now no longer unthinkable that we will lose this title – the players and management will know this, but we haven’t a clue how they will respond – that’s the BIG worry.

  21. eddieinkirkmichael on

Aberdeen have came back from a goal behind to win 4 times this season and failed to recover on 5 occasions.

  22. Jungle Jim Hot Smoked on

    My main point is this:

Celtic are NOT performing as badly as so many seem to think.

    Cheerio for now,

    JJ

  23. With Celtic just hanging on by a short head after Aberdeen collected full points last night and the big Scottish cup tie looming on the horizon it’s just the kick up the you-know-what the players needed as the season reaches a grand finale it should ensure the missing crowds will come flocking back to Celtic Park. I expect better football from Celtic as hopefully the weather and the pitches improve. We need Kris Commons to rediscover his goal scoring touch and young McGregor to give Leigh Griffiths a dig out in the same department.

  24. eddieinkirkmichael on

    Toor A Loo

we’ve lost 3 games in league and we have came back from being behind on 3 occasions. I would rather we hadn’t lost any games but to suggest they can’t recover from a set back just doesn’t cut it.

  26. Just on, I see John James has been advised to water down his blog, re: his attacks on King fraud.

That is reading between the lines but I would put my mortgage on it.

The pressure from the knuckle crunchers is becoming severe now that they approach the last hurdle.

Time for our board to open their mouths and wallets.

  27. CANAMALAR.

Thanks for the reply, but can the small share holders or ordinary fans not contact euefa ?

  28. Sipsini

Do you think that, when he mentioned PL and what he has said about him I thought that the pressure may have come from our side.

  29. sipsini

Funny you should read it that way, I thought that he was backing off his claim that Peter Lawell was part of a conspiracy. Might be wrong there.

  30. dessybhoy…

I might be wrong but after his comment about Gough, I reckon it was the nail in the coffin for him.

Funnily enough, he made out it was in the press, I can’t mind seeing anything ?

  31. With Adam Rooney out on long term injury we wondered where the goals for Aberdeen would come from but in steps loanee Simon Church to fill his boots.

  32. Celtic Mac…

As above mate, he had to pull his comment from his blog.

He’s now deleted a lot of what he wrote, most of it true.

The flying monkeys are spreading their wings now, whilst our lot wait in hope.:(

  33. Canalamar: Still waiting for info from the Board that you were led to believe, in January, was just around the corner.

So here we are, 6 or 7 weeks later, still waiting.

I’d like to be wrong about this, but that just sounds like contempt towards you and the rest of your noble band.

Of course, ‘what to do’ is the big question … Is it PL who’s dinging you/us, or is it the Board?

If there’s genuinely something about to happen, why no words to that effect.

Equally, if there is nothing to report, that too should be advised.

I genuinely worry that the Board is making a monumental mistake in treating honest-to-goodness fans in this fashion …
