Fit & proper waste of time

760

The proposed SFA rule change, that clubs must conduct an investigation into prospective new owners, went through unopposed at the Association’s AGM, currently underway at Hampden.  No formal rules must be observed during this investigation, not even the ‘Gandhi criminal rule’ postulated by (still) SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, so a club can look into the matter as deeply as they see appropriate and the former owner can claim he was “duped” after the money appears in his bank account.

This does not strengthen efforts to keep unfit people from owning Scottish clubs, if anything, it provides errant clubs with a defence.  Previously it was explicitly the club’s responsibility to ensure owners were fit and proper, now the club’s responsibility is limited to carrying out an unspecified value judgement.  Tune in soon to hear “We carried out an investigation consistent with best practice, why punish us?”

In this instance, value judgements are worth as much as Ibrox valuations. It’s not the rules that are wrong, the only problem is one club didn’t respect the rules and doesn’t like the medicine.

No mention yet of the dark Fifa cloud hanging over the Association. Perhaps it’s slipped their mind.

I have to disagree. The SPL investigation has the power to award us twelve in a row! Seriously, if the SPL does its job right, it taints everything they’ve done for ten years. It shows they’ve been cheating for ten years. Cheating every stakeholder, investor, sponsor, observor, customer and supporter of every football team in Scotland.

If the SFA doesn’t do its job right, we could end up kicked out of Europe. Not exactly a side show.

While we hoped that the Scottish fitba authorities would “dae something” about the RFCia situation we have already seen enough “opinion” from the likes of neil Doncaster, stewart regan, the killie chairman and co to realise that the establishment is right behind the institution.

It seems that there is now no hun punishment required for taking the SFA to court (S regan)

It seems that the hun transfer ban has been overturned (judge judy)

It seems that hun newco direct into SPL has enough supporters (killie and Dundee Utd SPS)

It seems that no one wants to talk about hun double contracts issue (Shhhhhh!!)

It seems that Campbell Ogilvie did not know about hun EBTs etc. even though he had one. (S Regan)

It seems that no one, even Hector, is getting paid anything, (Charles Green)

It seems that liquidation is very similar to CVA (Neil Doncaster)

So far the huns only punishment has been a 10 pt deduction in a season where they lost the title by 20 odd points. Big Deal. Lets compare scars shall we?

Neil Lennon got a 8 game ban for his handbags with sally moment

Fergus got a £200,000 fine for poaching TB about twenty years ago

Celtic replayed Rapid at OT after a bottle landed on the pitch

A new snp law was brought in to stop aggressive blessing last season after 3 huns were sent off at CP

The close season has actually bought the huns a bit of respite / the red tops are back to their best and any “phone in” challenges are closed in the close season. The swingometer seems to be heading back in favour of the huns in the past week or so.

I just hope that things aren’t always what they “seem” to be

Of course I can excuse you for having a few beers, I and many others have been guilty of posting whilst under the influence and occasionally even regretting what we’ve said.

What I find strange is your claim that you ‘forgot’ that you had read a statement from the GB stating their intention to renew season tickets.

You have posted now for several months with the view that the Celtic support should not renew until the issue of a newco has been resolved. I completely disagree with this analysis but respect your right to adhere to it.

You have claimed that PL and the Celtic board are untrustworthy and this was reflected in the stance which had been made, at the time, by the GB. You have on numerous occasions used the position of the GB to support and reinforce your assertions.

I hope you can understand why I would find it difficult to believe your claim that you ‘forgot’ that they had renewed.

    ALL crass and no class.

This morning would-be Rangers owner Charles Green may feel he has pulled off a cunning and clever masterstroke by sparking a rush to rip Sir David Murray’s name off the training complex he always saw as his legacy.

One man’s masterstroke, though, is another man’s cheap shot, low blow punch in the b***s.

I fully recognise that Murray’s reign at Rangers will forever now spark seething debate.

Yet, in this headlong rush to vilify the steel tycoon who swept into power at Ibrox in October 1988 when his close pal Graeme Souness persuaded him to take the plunge, some searching questions have to be answered.

Without Murray would Rangers have signed Mo Johnston and smashed down the barrier of signing a high-profile Catholic star? No.

Would they have careered on to nine titles on the spin and matched rivals Celtic’s historic feat? No.

Would genuine superstars like Brian Laudrup and Paul Gascoigne have ever worn a Rangers jersey? No.

This morning Sir David Murray deserves to sit in morbid silence and survey the death of Rangers’ legacy.

Under massive pressure from Lloyd’s Bank to offload Gers in a hurry he ignored sound advice from those around him and flogged the club to Craig Whyte.

The truth is that if Murray was duped that day then it would have been the first time. He wasn’t.

Deep down I’m sure he knew Whyte was a chancer and a gambler who would speculate to accumulate.

In the end when Ally McCoist’s side crashed and burned in Europe, twice, Whyte couldn’t even pay the taxes.

What has happened since as a crippled club have been dragged through the mire has been a sickening scandal that will now always besmirch Rangers’ 140-year history.

The downfall of Murray’s Rangers will always be a source of pleasure to those who hated his bombast and his bravado.

Yet the fact remains that without their controversial former chairman a glory-laden chapter in Gers’ folklore would never have been written.

For me, forget Whyte for now. The collapse began when Murray started chasing the impossible dream. The Champions League.

The constraints of Scotland’s footballing landscape meant he threw good money after bad, watched Dick Advocaat lavish £72million on stars who failed in Europe when it mattered most.

It is significant that the nearest Gers ever came to the Holy Grail was under the stewardship of Walter Smith in 1993 when a break of the ball in Marseille would have taken them to the final.

Murray will reflect on that this morning as Green surveys the bitter aftermath of a back-alley attack on a man who in my book does NOT deserve it.

The former Ibrox supremo will take the bitter regrets he nurses over the sale of Gers to Whyte to his grave.

Those pondering whether to call the training ground he built after Moses McNeil or Davie Cooper should remember their right to do so comes with a caveat attached.

Renew your season ticket, kick the fallen king, roll up, roll up. Sorry, but for me the actions of Mr Green last night are nothing to be proud of.

  28. The Battered Bunnet on

Chat about whether it was right or wrong for Ogilivie to be a beneficiary of Rangers’ tax scams is largely irrelevant set beside the fundamental issues at the heart of this scandal.

As an Executive Director of Rangers, he was legally responsible for the proper Governance of the company, for protecting the shareholders’ and company’s interests, and for implementing the Strategy and Instruction of the Board of Directors.

As a Director of the SFA, he was responsible for upholding the SFA’s FIFA mandate to protect and foster the Game in Scotland, for the proper Governance of the Association, and for protecting the interests of the SFA and its members.

As an Executive Director of Rangers, it is not permissible for him to claim ignorance of the major contractual positions the company had taken. It was his Responsibility to know what they were, and where appropriate to challenge them. That these positions are now causing the collapse of the club indicates how significant the risk to the club was.

As an Executive Director, he is on record as confirming that he has signed Player contracts on behalf of the club during the DOS and EBT years. It is not permissible for him to claim that he did not know the terms of the contracts that he signed on behalf of the club. It was his Responsibility to read and fully understand the terms before he signed.

As a Director of the SFA, his failure to notify the Association of the conflicting interests he held between his role as Executor of Rangers’ tax scams, and that of a Guardian of the Game in Scotland is a failing in first principles of the role.

Moreover, his failure to disclose this conflict facilitated the outrageous scam on the Game being committed by Rangers, the member club of which he was Director.

Giving Ogilivie the benefit of every conceivable doubt, he is unfit to hold the office of Director by virtue of his compliant stupidity. Curiously, I have not seen any other evidence that might suggest Ogilvie is either stupid or compliant.

    TBB

  29. Barcabhoy @ 10:07,

Tend to agree with you regarding Mr Regan – though I do think he could have issued a tougher overall message with regard to compliance.

And obviously CO has to be assumed innocent and there is no suggestion his EBT payments are anything but legal. Yet consider the SFA Tribunal into RFC disrepute charges, it determined the culpability of the whole RFC Board over the period in question i.e. the it was all Craig Whyte’s fault didn’t wash.

Surely IF the EBT scheme is deemed to be illicit/illegal, by the FTT &/or the SPL (especially in light of CO’s RFC responsibilities and the Board position held) his position as President of the SFA must be untenable i.e. the it was all M.I.H.’s fault won’t wash.

IF the SPL ever, ever get round to deciding there is a Prima Facie case against RFC re:EBTs, CO will need to stand down or be suspended.

  30. So where are we….?
