Fit squad needed as Valencia return to top half of table

184

When we stopped for the winter break, I hoped to have Kieran Tierney, Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard available for the resumption of league duty tomorrow evening.  Tom remains at the Asian Cup with Australia, where he will face the UAE on Friday, but doubt remains over when we will see Kieran and Odsonne fully fit.  The latter is thought to be over his injury and just needs sharpness, but we had a false dawn on his fitness a month ago.

There are only three weeks before Valencia arrive in Glasgow (game sold out this morning).  The Spaniards have hit form since drawing Celtic in the Europa League and are now only six points off a European spot for next season.

Now in the top half of the table, having dispensed with relegation worries.  Progress against Celtic will be their objective for February.  A place in the last 16 is achievable, but we will need all resources available.

It’s alright , he got clearance from his Mammy , which is much more important ;-))

I remember singing the “Build a Bonfire” song in the school playground with the Headie and the teachers subbing for Jambos and Sevco. I heard a radio show which claimed this song was sung in pre-WW2 playgrounds in Scotland.

Very few of the perpetrators had any great desire to translate the lyrics into a programme of action. Very few schools were lost to arson.

Modern tastes may have changed but it was a fairly innocent children’s song that would now be collected as an example of inventive folklore.

There seems to be some signs that we do that – Jozo & Filip for example.

It’s another factor that might appeal to potential signings.

The relief I felt when you asked that question.

I posted similar thoughts on Ralston on Sunday. The more we spend, if any, on a right back will mean the less we see of the bhoy. Domestically I think he will do fine.

I personally think this one is entirely down to Brendans opinion, and what we are willing to spend. If we are to compete in Europe & maintain our domestic dominance, we need 2 good right backs. Use them both wisely.

It isn’t hindsight saying that , if we used KT more sparingly then he might not have the hip issues he now has .

He played in way too many games, especially being targeted in most, for someone so young.

We should also have called for more protection for him.

The point in having a squad of players is to use them. HH

  9. After I posted my piece on the Songs of Freedom, as that’s what they are, especially poignant on MLK day I went out on a frigid night to give my support to a group at the local town hall.

When I logged on this morning I was quite pleased to see supporters concurring with me, especially kemo sabe, that the flag in question that day was not the Irish tricolour, and BTW so what if it was, the one that flew above the Jungle was donated by Eamon DeValera the same one our club took a stand on, however the one in question was green, white and gold.

It could have been some Cote D’Ivoire punters with their flag upside down although theirs is orange, white and green and the design modeled on the French Tricolore.

Or east Indians whose flag is a horizontal rectangular tricolour of India saffron, white and India green; that’s highly unlikely as at that time were more Pakistanis’ in the Glasgow area than Indians.

I was a bit bemused at macjay quoting fae wiki; it’s well known that the facts on there can be manipulated i.e. prospective Celtic signings are quoted as saying “up the RA” and hun ones with “WATP and FTP”.

As I’ve said I recall that day but more because if the behaviour of the calvinist at Boagheid who left the town with a few sore faces and next time I saw them at the same venue a couple of seasons later, nae songs or chants were aired.

It was the next day I read about the Big Mhan wading intae the crowd, he also made a statement in the View where he mentioned “singing and chanting slogans which had nothing tae dae with fitba”, nothing about the flag of our founding fathers or the IRA”, that was the squirrel the smsm used.

A squirrel tae deflect fae the huns atrocious behaviour in Barca where the late great Ian Archer was quoted in the Herald, when it used tae be a good newspaper, “deidco are a Permanent Embarrassment and an Occasional Disgrace”

Damage limitation went intae overdrive after the lavvy cup game, an injury ravaged Dynamo side did like most iron curtain teams at the time and froze that night going 0-3 down early in the 2nd half, however they then bounced back scoring 2 with big drap the baw mcloy and a sandra jardine goal line clearance keeping them in the game, they were getting desperate nowand while Moscow were on the attack the hooly hooly hooligans invaded the pitch, the cover up started there then that they were only trying tae emulate us at Lisbon, aye that’ll be right.

Of course the Barca polis got the blame and then the Dynamo support, especially with the graffiti on the churches and holy statues, they were commies and hated the Catholic church was the common plea, until it was pointed out that only a handful of Russian supporters were at the game and they mostly came fae the embassy, travelling at that time from the USSR was severely restricted.

So the anti-Franco anarchists now got the blame until again it was highlighted, by the Herald once more, that aerosols could not be purchased in Spain then so had to have been brought in.

On returning tae the greatest wee bigoted country in the western world their greatest ever thug said “I think the supporters got a little bit excited but they’ve been waiting a long time, but we hope we’ve not got in too much trouble because of it.”

While he who was quoted as saying their support give their wives a “bashing” when they lost argued “that the police had over-reacted, the fans were drunk but not intent on violence, and that recent European finals had witnessed rejoicing Celtic, Bayern Munich and Ajax fans running on to the park and those occasions had been deemed acceptable.” The cry of distress signal was raised tae the rafters after that game.

UEFA wanted tae either replay the game in a different venue or take the cup off them, however, as we all know the tentacles of the craft stretch far and wide especially in the birthplace of calvinism and they got off with a 2 year suspension, believe it or not they appealed that and it was reduced tae 1 year. To this day the Russians still hold a grudge.

So on opening day while I with a lot of Dumbarton Tims were at Boagheid and we were up in Stirling the former sports journalist with Express, who went on a campaign tae have their mild mannered and excellent manager when with the Bully Wee removed so he could get his job, went in front of the baying hordes at hades.

waddell steamed intae them right enough saying they wanted no part of those who caused destruction to public property, threw bottles and fought and spread viciousness with party songs and foul and obscene language.

So the smsm, in another effort to paint one side as bad as the other, then claimed that Jocks anger at Annfield was similar with the sight of an Irish tricolour and the chanting of IRA, nowhere in his statement tae the official club paper does Jock mention flag or IRA. He might have thought that but never uttered it.

It should be noted that our support calmed down after that and misuse of the English language dissipated, but that was it.

So yes macjay it was like a walk up Balloch Park that weekend with the amount of squirrels in plain sight.

You consider Jock`s perhaps unprecedented action in going onto the terracing to remonstrate with supporters of his own team to be irrelevant and describe it as a squirrel .

    That`s your prerogative .

Derry and the BBC I just ask myself have the British Govt and Loyalists any history in lying about and creating false flag events, then ask myself who has the most to gain from such an attack and apply Occam’s razor, it’s no rocket surgery. Invisible terrorist cells can be anyone, the only way I’ll believe the British on this is if those arrested confess, even then I’d suspect ther orders came from London as has previously happened.

    ============

was on my phone , just looking in, so will give a quick hello,

Big Roy, as a bhoy, lets say 16 to 25ish was loved by the celtic support, then a bit of a scapegoat for sometime, My uncle used to give him a torrid time “lost more big games for us than he ever won”, rapid vienna, and the aberdeen cup finals in particular. he blamed him for the 1980 league loss in particular. 5-1 at dundee , scores the goal and losses 5. ffs.

however, your story of tea at the ritz, with big shirley, and the kindness, and now any interview with him, he is brilliantly celtic minded. i also used to go to newcastle for weekends when he was there, they loved him.

anyways, i am rapidly on the mend, a few wobbly days, but some days near normal i want to get back to work soon, and a match. and, forget daytime tv, fulltime reading cqn would drive anyone to distraction, i need employment.

as an aside there is a cracker few lines about greenock csc and they raised £25k for charity last year. i reckon a lot of it is you and greenlion and pyayr generated.

    keep it lit.
