Five cautions without a single bad challenge

105

The Curse of Easter Road strikes again.  This time, Celtic played well, made lots of chances and have little reason for regret.  Hibs were poor, seldom threatened but benefited from a ricochet from a cross which was never leading to a genuine chance.

That aside, Hibs players in general and Scott Allan in particular spent a great deal of the game on their bums.  Physical contact became a reason for theatrical innovation.  We succumbed to their limited game plan.  Wiser heads would have left Edinburgh with fewer than five cautions without making a single bad challenge.

Hooking Odsonne Edouard for Bayo was curious but Edouard has a bigger game to prepare for this week and I thought this was the best we have seen of Bayo, despite not scoring.  He linked up well, showed composure under pressure and is beginning to look comfortable in the Celtic shirt.

Credit too to Boli Bolingoli.  He did not have any defending to do but was always available and coped with the best of our intricate passing.

    Me too.

My personal worry was that the league had regressed this year. Hibs & Killie have lost great coaches in Steve Clarke and Neil Lennon. Hearts & Aberdeen have also regressed for reasons more difficult to define.

We can hope that some of these teams will figure out a way to get at Sevco over the course of a season. Maybe when winter comes and pitches get poorer it will get harder for them (as it does for us)

December will be a huge month in the title race. We traditionally struggle as we have been playing qualifiers since June and the games come thick and fast. Now its something they have to deal with.

We need to take care of our own business so a couple of home games will do nicely.

I don’t recall the ‘Kafflik Schools’ question during the rampant Rainjurrz EBT years.

You’re usually accurate but you’re wrong here. If there’s any kind of sectarian incident – even a loyalist one – then as night follows day, there are demands in Scotland to shut down Catholic schools. In the EBT years, the authoritative social commentator, Lorenzo Amoruso, intervened to make that same demand in a ‘book’.

  4. Paul 67,

I have high hopes for Bayo.

He was really composed as he blootered the ball high over the bar; it was the pesky 6ft incline that caught him out. He will be aware the next time.

( Contrary to what you have read in the press about levelling the pitch out, Bayo’s ” attempt” shows it is still there. )

    Hail Hail

PS : Surely our Ghirls 6-0 demolition derby was worthy of a mention. No Green Brigade pesky singing to put the poor timid Sevco girlies off their game either.

    COYGIG.

BBC Scotland couldn’t take it either. Complaints concerning gloating Celtic supporters, year after year, forced them to take unprecedent action and close down the only national football talk in show “Your Call”.

  6. Turkeybhoy,

The huns have already slaughtered Aberdeen and Hibs this season.

We need to rely on ourselves. Remember on paper we were playing the second bottom of the league on Saturday.

  7. I posted yesterday about the fact, that not once did we try to take advantage of Bauers massive throws, into the box, which I thought was a very valid point,as our normal set pieces are woeful.I must be right in the movers and shakersbad books on here,as not a single comment.

    Ach,I coulda been a contender,you know.

  8. Greenpinta,I know,I am not worrying,just stating,thats a wee run of away games.We will do them,but maybe,just maybe,another wee dropped point.

  9. CRITICAL PRE-WINTER SHUTDOWN PERIOD, 9 GAMES:

In just over a month, we have 9 games before New Year and so do Sevco. We were on our knees during this period last year. This is when squad depth and rotation will be critical. Whoever is on top by close of play on the 29th will have three weeks to enjoy it. On paper, the fixtures favour us.

I saw your Bauer comment and thought you covered all bases in the comment , hence nothing from me.

He did throw one in near the end but Julienne did his reverse jump again. Bet reverse jumper for a big lad since PVH (honourable mention in 3-3 Ibrox game of course)

  11. To clarify, I don’t mean in just over a month from now, I mean that the 9 games take place in a period of just over a month (end of November to end of December).

  12. Livingston away on Sunday makes 5 away from first 8 league games but after the international break, we have 4 league fixtures out of 5 at home …

    That makes pleasant reading.

  14. Paul Larkin’s gonna have some fantastic material…………………..

Hampden is priority enemy. Always has been, always will be – that is until the Scottish game decides to change itself for the better and the common good.

imo, if not any other startegy is bound to glorious failure leaving Celtic both as victims and villain.

    Wiser heads should prevail.

  16. Could Paul67 or a moderator explain why my lunchtime post was removed. I don’t mind if you post the answer here or direct mail me if you prefer. Thanks in advance

  17. Nothing is black or white Paul but Celtic should work towards having a team for scottish matches and a different side in European matches. The lack of intensity which led to losing the first goal at Easter Road is understandable as our foreign players can only be bamboozled and underwhelmed by the standards in the SPL. I dont think that goal would have slinked in though if Tierney was protecting that flank. Tierney’s team spirit is as big a loss though, guys like that don’t come along too often. Lennon obviously is of the same stuff but he can be distracted by his duties at the weekly and sometimes midweek press conferences and has the job of celtic spokesman for the world’s media. Before the Hibs game there was PRE- match interview, it’s not advisable to do a live interview just before a match. I don’t envy Lenny’s job. We need to get Tierney’s gap filled in the dressing room as well as on the park.

Re the Ajer og , one of my pet hates is seeing a defender turn his back on the ball when he thinks the forward is preparing to shoot . He is a young guy with a lot to learn though , and didn’t start off as a defender so he will learn from the experience , same with the shirt tugging.

  19. Bayo did really well to carve out the chance at the end of the game on Saturday. Perhaps with more game time and work on the training ground it’s the sort of effort he’ll stick away. Hopeful he’ll develop into the type player we can’t afford to buy.

  20. Glendaly

I don’t think he turned his back, he just set his body wrong ; tried to block with his right foot and it hit his left. He should have gone in open with a left leg block.

It was terrible technique I agree

I wanted him off at HT for El Hamed but I was wrong as he had nothing to deal with second half and pushed us forward

  21. glendalystonsils on

Poor fare in the Man U Arsenal game . Players of both teams crowding the referee at almost every decision.

Maybe we should do a bit more of that . On second thoughts , it might give them an excuse to book more of our players.

  22. The Sky advert, had Ferguson, Wenger, Scholes, van Nistelrooy, Henry, Pires…..Ashley Young still playing, and Gollum and Dick Emery in the dugout, if you seen a picture of both teams before game, if you could name 4 on each side, you’d be doing well
