Five in open battle for central defensive places

400

After the dust settled on Sunday’s game I considered the four central defenders we fielded.  Acknowledging his poor performance, Brendan Rodgers reminded us Dedryck Boyata was just back from injury and will improve.  Jozo Simunovic coasted through the game but got drawn into the spate of off the ball acts which was a feature of the game.

Kris Ajar (19) continued his excellent recent form, while Jack Hendry (22) didn’t miss a beat when introduced after Jozo’s red card.  There will be tougher challenges ahead, but these two are more than comfortable at this level and have a genuine claim to a starting place at Hampden.

The Morton game a week earlier gave Marvin Compper an opportunity to show how match-fit he is – not sufficiently, was the outcome.  Marvin is at the club to bring experience and stability to the defensive line.  Our four games before the split are all against lower half of the league opposition.  The German international must be given plenty of game time in the coming month.

What our central defence will look like for the qualifiers remains an open book.  All five players discussed above are under consideration.  I expect comings and goings throughout the window in this area too.  Brendan will expect Marvin to play a significant part, but it will be a battle for all of them; which is a good thing.

The SFI ( Scottish Football Industry) have made an executive decision on what is Good For The Game.

Celtic’s total dominance is not that.

Where we were once conspired against merely due to the inclination of those in power, board members and officials, they have now added expediency.

This means that anyone who depends on Scottish football for a living, clubs, forty one of them, media and Blazers, have, in their eyes, a duty to sabotage our endeavours.

Some need no added incentive, but others, the Clanceys, Collums, etc., know that their careers depend on following the party line.

Celtic are hopelessly out voted at the top table.

    You see, it’s just business!

Until we get out of Scottish football, it will be always thus, unless, of course, we hit a major slump.

D17- i think PL praised Maxwell a couple of weeks ago, when he gave both barrels to the Blazers?

  4. Whatever Celtic fans think of Doncaster, him and PL get along as far as I’m aware and PL has also spoken well of Ian Maxwell. Whether this means anything i have no idea.

  5. evening bhoys, cant believe people are castigating wullie colum, real celtic man, ffs he is a teacher in one of our schools, ive been told he wears a celtic jersey underneath his referees outfit.lol.

SPFL moving in to make SFA more professional which was an objective of Celtic.

    What was needed was leverage.

If this tips voting power at SFA Board level towards a more professional SFA then its a good move for football.

SPFL have reason not to trust the SFA as the Comp Off should be uncovering.

  10. This from a smsm journo that I posted last week suggests moves afoot.

” Regan going makes a huge difference. Every boardroom vote before was 4-4 with McRae casting decisive vote in favour of the ‘old guard’. Mulraney, Maxwell, Hughes and Stewart forming a pro-SPFL pact which will drive through change and neuter Petrie / McRae.”

I know we have the kid coming from St Mirren coming in but i have liked Jones’s speed and directness ?

See my previous. Its the SFA who voted against any investigation into their handling of Rangers ebts. Having the balance change as Comp Off is investigating is encouraging.

Re the Refs and a solution …. if the will was there, there is a solution … by all means have a pool of full time ELITE referees who are employed independently from both SFA an£ SPL and hired to both, to officiate their SPL games and cup games … They must be answerable for their standards and performances like any other professional in any other industry/ employment….the less able could carry on with the lower leagues and juniors and would have the chance TO PROVE THEMESELVES and have an avenue for career progression…If they understand that their performances must be of the highest standard or they are out they will be less inclined to make “ honest mistakes “ …. unlike now where they blatantly cheat knowing that they will never be called to justify decisions ….

  19. Interesting to read Paul Merson’s possitive views on Brendan Rodgers and Celtic’s unbeaten record last season and current achievements with the club and the contrasting diatribe of Mr Barton – how does this bloke get so much airtime. The former talks sense while the latter is an exponement of eejitry.

  20. AULDHEID, i so admire you for what you have tried to do to root out the corrupt sfa, but i fear you are up against a stacked deck? im sure that was in a movie with alan ladd lol. but seriously how many celtic fans on this blog or take it further the worldwide celtic support, trust anything to do with scottish football, auldheid i think im a bit older than you, i go back to mcluskey and wharton and ernie walker jim farry absolutley anti celtic, its in their genes but keep plugging away pal you have got my admiration.hh.

He plays left mid/winger type , dont know who his preffered team would be , but has impressed me any time i’ve saw him .

Brendan could improve him no doubt .

I wouldn’t worry so much about his preferred team

I admit to being very very sceptical when Broony came and not afraid to admit he proved me wrong

I’ve used it a few times mate and never had any real problems with it. Got locked out of the place in Istanbul and the guy had someone there in 20 mins to let me in and fix the door entry system.

Just been in Paris and stayed in a cracking centrally located flat and it was pretty much like described. A couple of wee things I could have moaned about, one broken socket in the kitchen but nothing major.

So for me on my limited budget I found it much better than a hotel but then I hate hotels!!

All the money transfers etc were safe and secure from start to finish and communication with the float owners was quick and easy..

  26. Hail! Hail! Everyone, I’m still on a high, down in Manchester again and it is not really a football city in my eyes. Even last week when Liverpool were coming to town and with CL on tonight there is a lack of atmosphere. There a good few Sevilla fans about but they don’t seem to making too much noise. I hope they push Mourinho ‘s nosebout of joint tonight. I see the lad Jones being mentioned on here? From my understanding he is sorely wanted by the dark side and that is where his heart lies. Don’t know if that will have any bearing on what he wants to do, decent player though with a dodgy final ball is my opinion however that is only formed from a couple of views over 90 minutes. I think Hayes is a better player and more robust. Anyway, my microwave meal awaits me, take care. HH
