Fix this narrative, Celtic

Celtic have not beaten either of the Rangerses in a Scottish Cup Final since before the Berlin Wall fell.  Joe Miller’s 1989 winner after the most moaned about throw-in in history is the landmark moment.  We were poor that season yet managed to hold the line at Hampden in the sun.

In the remaining 23 years of Oldco we met and lost to them twice in the Final (1999 and 2002), both by a single goal.  The last seven of these finals, since the epic 4-0 in 1969, were decided by one goal.  With so much on the line, underdogs often find strength.  We have twice lost to Newco at Hampden in the Scottish Cup, both semis and both defeats, despite Celtic being strong favourites, just as we are tomorrow.

Despite being champions, Celtic have an interesting edge to them going into the game.  Their win in the crucial league game between the sides this month was followed by a chorus from the losers that they were heroic in defeat.  That is not how I saw the game, but apparently, we got the edge on a better side that day.

Fix this narrative, Celtic.

    Just score more than them.

Not sure the narrative is fixable, so we’ll just have to beat Sevco.

  4. “after the most moaned about throw-in in history”

Lauded in my case, of course! Was at that game (“Gary gie’s a pass back”) and have used Aitken’s never give up attitude as an example when complaining about player attitude in subsequent decades.

The league was everything for me this season, so relaxed and confident for this one – it will take Brother Beaton to reach news height of bare faced cheatin’ to turn this one for the hun.

  5. You’d be crazy to predict the result of a cup final , so for me a fairly straightforward 3-0 walk in the park or if the Hun capitulate and starting seeing red who knows when the scoreboard stops ticking over.

  6. Or how about the narrative that tells us that we have not lost a Scottish Cup Final in over twenty years?

And have won it ten times in that period?

    How about that narrative?

Or does that not fit with the er narrative?

Unfortunately a bhoy can’t make the game tomorrow so I’ve got a ticket.

Only managed to get to two previous Scottish cup finals against the huns, 1977 and the famous 1980. Won both 1:0 , I’ll take that tomorrow !

  11. See there’s an article asking if James Forest is Celtics greatest ever player, no disrespect to Jamsie but it sort of got me thinking to John Lennon’s answer when interviewed…

  13. Had a wee look on FF there.HeeHeeHee,really funny.

“If we lose tomorrow, the Board are certain to back Mr Clemence next season”

“Eh,FFP,won’t allow that, and we are skint”

Why dont you go onto your Whatsap with your Timmy mates”

“What would Sir Walter do tomorrow”

“What,Yilmaz injured again. He is always injured. Is that all we sign?If he does not play tomorrow, take £4 million for him in the summer”

“Surely the Board could back the manager, then get paid back if we qualify for the CL” That should take care of FFP”

“You cant just get rid of all the deadwood.Only ones leaving, are those out of contract. We will still have 70% of the rubbish on the wage bill”

“They must have agents. If not, there are ways to force them out”

Sounds like an offer they can’t refuse.Unbelievable on there.Brightens up your life.

`scotch`? Always been a `mince` pie for my generation and i do my best to keep that going :-)

    *no when I was a boy i was a mutton pie ”

I certainly heard people say ` mutton` but the reason I remember `mince` is that , as a child, I read a children`s book set in England and Bobby Shafto ( ?) spoke of eating two or three mince pies after his Christmas dinner and I was truly surprised !!!

*just asked Mrs TT about this and she confirmed what I was led to believe that it was a sweet pie of English origin filled with mincemeat, being a mixture of fruit, spices and suet, they are traditionally served during the Christmas season in much of the English-speaking world.

I remember when I was a dinner hall monitor in the quali they would be served on Christmas dinner day along with a square of tablet, at the end of the dinner hour lots of pies were left over but nae tablet

Oh and when I told her what you had said she started tae sing “Bobby Shaftoe’s gone to sea silver buckles at his knee he’ll come back and marry me bonnie Bobby Shaftoe” as per usual history was written by the victors

Have been thinking about times when we have struggled against them over the last few years and it’s generally when we’ve had 2/3/4 players not performing. If everyone of our players is on form I think we should win easily enough.

Also t’s often in the midfield that the games won and we have a far superior midfield. 👍
