Celtic have not beaten either of the Rangerses in a Scottish Cup Final since before the Berlin Wall fell.  Joe Miller’s 1989 winner after the most moaned about throw-in in history is the landmark moment.  We were poor that season yet managed to hold the line at Hampden in the sun.

In the remaining 23 years of Oldco we met and lost to them twice in the Final (1999 and 2002), both by a single goal.  The last seven of these finals, since the epic 4-0 in 1969, were decided by one goal.  With so much on the line, underdogs often find strength.  We have twice lost to Newco at Hampden in the Scottish Cup, both semis and both defeats, despite Celtic being strong favourites, just as we are tomorrow.

Despite being champions, Celtic have an interesting edge to them going into the game.  Their win in the crucial league game between the sides this month was followed by a chorus from the losers that they were heroic in defeat.  That is not how I saw the game, but apparently, we got the edge on a better side that day.

  1. MNCELT you could try the https://www.nafcsc.com/ site for the US locations, there seems to be 3 in Florida, one in Orlando where I have watched games and 2 more, Tampa and South Florida although the venue where the latter watch is now permanently closed although they do have email addies of the exec

  2. i wish official channels , bloggers and people in general would stop using the deid club as some sort of references point,

that team that won in 2002 had 11 ebt recipients on the park, their manager, coach, physio, chairman, ceo and even john greig had an ebt in use.

if we want to refer to them tell the truth, they cheated to win, ten died because of it.

same with the “combined” trophies, stop doing it, stop using it, you cant buy anyones historical titles.

did i show you my charlie chaplin oscar ? well mines.

  3. Indeed SAINT STIVS

But the thing is, once we pass the 55 mark and combined trophies thems will implode. They will have nothing left.

    CELTIC FOOTBALL AND ATHLETIC CLUB

    CELTIC PARK, PARKHEAD

(Corner of Dalmarnock and Janefield Streets)

    Patrons

His Grace the Archbishop of Glasgow and the Clergy of St. Mary’s, Sacred Heart and St. Michael’s Missions, and the principle Catholic laymen of the East End

The above club was formed in November 1887 by a number of the Catholics of the East End of the City.

The main objective of the club is to supply the East End conferences of the St. Vincent De Paul Society with funds for the maintenance of the “Dinner Tables” of our needy children in the Missions of St Mary’s, Sacred Heart, and St. Michael’s. Many cases of sheer poverty are left unaided through lack of means. It is therefore with this principle object that we have set afloat the “Celtic”, and we invite you as one of our ever-ready friends to assist in putting our new Park in proper working order for the coming football season.

We have already several of the leading Catholic football players of the West of Scotland on our membership list. They have most thoughtfully offered to assist in the good work.

We are fully aware that the “elite” of football players belong to this City and suburbs, and we know that from there we can select a team which will be able to do credit to the Catholics of the West of Scotland as the Hibernians have been doing in the East.

Again, there is also the desire to have a large recreation ground where our Catholic young men will be able to enjoy the various sports which will build them up physically, and we feel sure we will have many supporters with us in this laudable object.

  6. Thx BognorBhoy & TontimeTim. The csc’s are too far away. I’m down on Ocean Drive. Loads of restaurants but haven’t seen anything that looks likely for the game.

I was in Ocean Drive with the small doll in January. Murphy’s Bar shows loads of sports but it’s not an Irish bar. And like the rest of that area, grossly overpriced. Thieving canutes. 😡

I would like to nominate Alex “Doddie” McDonald.

    A Doddie Shite imo.

I’m wondering if scroat as an insult is a shortened (or more polite) form of scrotum.

In which case, bud johnston was a horrible Bawbag.

    It all fits.

  11. Ewan Murray’s headline in the Guardian Football pages: “Rangers and Clement must break grim Celtic cycle.”

How this guy got a journalism job is a scandal. Bitter hun. Whenever Sevco win his report is in pronto; whenever Celtic win, it’s filed 2 days later, after he’s wiped his tears.

    I really like that approach.

We do our talking on the pitch.

Feeling relaxed now, nerves will undoubtedly kick in tomorrow morning.

  14. Winning the Championship this season was the all important focus for me and i never really gave a great deal of thought to success in the Scottish Cup. Considering all the injuries and five or six of Ange’s frontline players departing the club and qualifying for this new Champions League format, this was the sweetest title win in recent years. Sure I want to see the Hoops win the Cup and continue our dominance over Rangers , no doubt about it.

I’m never relaxed about this fixture and the older I have become, the more I worry about it.

I won’t watch it live tomorrow and will have radio silence until it is over.

If the result is positive, I will watch on catch up.

If not, I will avoid news and sports programmes, papers etc for at least a week.

I really can’t stand watching them beat us. I know it is ridiculous that a man in his 60s gets like this, but I can’t help it.

*Not really as my da and father in law, both huge tams were like that, in fact when 10 men won the league I went down to the lattes basement and called a national newspaper for the scores as I had only found out about half and hour before that we were playin that night.

As soon as I asked for the “Scottish soccer scores”, the girl on the switchboard answered “Celtic won it 4-2” so as I bounded up the stairs I did I did a mental calculation and ascertained that we had NOT only beat them but won the League tae, the oul yins face beamed when I told him and he called all his friends and family over here to tell them.

The following night when I got home from work I asked mrs tt had my mum or dad called and when she said naw I was right on the phone tae them, thats when my da told me there had been nae telly coverage and we hudnae had a great so off he went tae bed and it was only the followin morning that he heard on the radio we had won, his first words though were how his bhoys over here would be delighted with that .

Any Edinburgh CQN’ ers heading into Kitty O’Sheas for the game tomorrow ?🍀🤔

  24. Well if the weathermen know which way the wind blow mid-afternoon tomorrow is set fair for Glasgow with a good chance the sun will be shining at full-time. On us.

I’ll restate what I said before the recent game at Celtic Park against the same opponents.

The problem will not be letting them into the game, but rather letting them back into the game.

And I do not say that lightly, it has happened in our last three games against them.

We scored three great goals against the Saints last week, needed too cause we were weaker in defence than we will be tomorrow. We have a team full of players who have handled this fixture before, and I expect them to do it again. We’ll score goals against them, Hearts scored three, defend well and there will once again be green and white ribbons on that Old ScottishCup.

Oh and another thing, biased as I am, if that sun shines there no football strip or scarf on the Planet that shows up better than the green and white hoops or stripes of our team and our supporters.

And you can take that, and the takings, and the winnings…..to the bank!
