Fix this narrative, Celtic

Celtic have not beaten either of the Rangerses in a Scottish Cup Final since before the Berlin Wall fell.  Joe Miller’s 1989 winner after the most moaned about throw-in in history is the landmark moment.  We were poor that season yet managed to hold the line at Hampden in the sun.

In the remaining 23 years of Oldco we met and lost to them twice in the Final (1999 and 2002), both by a single goal.  The last seven of these finals, since the epic 4-0 in 1969, were decided by one goal.  With so much on the line, underdogs often find strength.  We have twice lost to Newco at Hampden in the Scottish Cup, both semis and both defeats, despite Celtic being strong favourites, just as we are tomorrow.

Despite being champions, Celtic have an interesting edge to them going into the game.  Their win in the crucial league game between the sides this month was followed by a chorus from the losers that they were heroic in defeat.  That is not how I saw the game, but apparently, we got the edge on a better side that day.

    POR CIERTO

A great story. Thanks for sharing.

“I got a free ticket from the school for the 67 final and was in the Schoolboys enclosure in front of the main stand.”

Thanks, Tom, I’m pretty sure that was where we should have been heading going through that gate! por cierto

Another reason to be fairly confident today – it sounds like Clement might be tempted to play players who are not yet 100%, or at least not 100% match fit.

Win the individual battles and impose ourselves on the game and it should be ours.

I prefer the James Forrest version – of which I’ve claimed a % of the royalties.

    He’s electric

He’s spent his whole life playing for the Celtic

He’s done things we never expected

    When he’s oan the wing

    He comes from Prestwick

And we love him here at the Celtic

His goals are magical and majestic

    When he’s oan the wing

And we want him to know

    That he’s a Celtic legend

    When he’s oan the wing

  7. Loking forward to this today!!

  9. Very confident that if we keep 11 men on the pitch today we will wipe the floor with them

An early goal means we should smash in 4 or 5

Biggest fear is the refs/var handing us a red card or them a shonky penalty

Keep the head and play the game and not the crowd/atmosphere/occasion then we will be fine

  10. The manager, Jock Stein, said: “There is not a prouder man on God’s Earth than me at this moment. Winning was important, but it was the way that we won that has filled me with satisfaction.

“We did it by playing football; pure, beautiful, inventive football. There was not a negative thought in our heads.”

According to the Celtic players, Stein told his players to “go out and enjoy themselves” at the start of the match.

  11. What a day…………..

Thank goodness for Celtic Quick News…………

    HH..

  12. Who knows what the outcome will be. Cup fitba’ is cup fitba’…………………

But, why do I have to fear the intervention of some wee bitter an’ twisted hun playin’ his part in the “success” of his boyhood “heroes”.

That’s what we are up against.

    HHH
