Celtic have not beaten either of the Rangerses in a Scottish Cup Final since before the Berlin Wall fell.  Joe Miller’s 1989 winner after the most moaned about throw-in in history is the landmark moment.  We were poor that season yet managed to hold the line at Hampden in the sun.

In the remaining 23 years of Oldco we met and lost to them twice in the Final (1999 and 2002), both by a single goal.  The last seven of these finals, since the epic 4-0 in 1969, were decided by one goal.  With so much on the line, underdogs often find strength.  We have twice lost to Newco at Hampden in the Scottish Cup, both semis and both defeats, despite Celtic being strong favourites, just as we are tomorrow.

Despite being champions, Celtic have an interesting edge to them going into the game.  Their win in the crucial league game between the sides this month was followed by a chorus from the losers that they were heroic in defeat.  That is not how I saw the game, but apparently, we got the edge on a better side that day.

Expecting a very difficult game, against a well organised team. Long periods in all of these derbies that started in 2012, have seen us pinned back by a team that play a route one version of the game.

Free kicks , dead balls and even throw ins are their manna for a group of mercenary failed somewhere earlier type players, ensemble.

Celtic despite Adam Idah’s destruction of Kilmarnock away, will look to Kyogo and Maeda to sniff out early chances , in a fixture that we almost traditionally score first. The only thing missing recently from the meetings is a skelpng, I hope it’s today for us, our history and absent friends.

The big Billy final , the Dixie Deans final , the Davy Provan final , the Tom Rogic final, ………

    The James Forrest final ?

    If correct I’m surprised.

Thought the Belgian maestro would have played Sima and Matondo despite them carrying injuries. He alluded to this at his press conference yesterday.

Lundstrum is one the fans don’t want but again at his presser he spoke of not bowing to fan pressure with regards to picking the team….happy days.

    Let’s hope so DBC.

Again, ourselves and the officials are our biggest obstacles.

We are a lot better than this shower of losers. If we’re on it from the start and don’t let up, we could give them a good doing today.

It’s the letting them back into the game that worries me. We never seem to kill them off like we did under Ange. 3-0 at half time knocked the stuffing out of them.

    Let’s have some of that!

    😃🍀🇮🇪🏆🏆👍🍾⚽️

  10. In summer of 1966 I went to the top of the Empire State Building in New York. When I got to the top there standing looking out on the city were Jimmy Johnstone, Bobby Lennox and Willie O’Neill What a moment that was..

Today also brings back many memories of the Big Cup day in Lisbon. About this time in 1967, I am in a car heading into the city for lunch having just pick up friends at Lisbon Airport. Lunch and then off to the stadium for the game.

  11. Meant to be in hospitality but gave them away to a former employees (he passed) wife who goes to all home games and takes their now grown up grandkids. They did not get anything in ballot.

She now has cancer and this could be her last cup final with her grandkids.

So I gave her my tickets and hopefully she has a ball with her grandkids.

Her husband was one of life’s grafters and nothing was a bother and an all round Good human being.

God bless Gordon and prayers for Margaret🙏

  13. the long wait is over on

Not half as nervous as I am before a league game against the Arrivistes.

Not because I am overconfident or that I don’t really , really want to scud them 5-0, or even 1-0, it’s just the

Cup isn’t , for me anyway , a fraction as important as the League which thankfully we’ve deservedly pocketed.

What’s the worst that can happen ? They win ?

So what. Might give them false hope that things improving and their board aren’t therefore subject to their typical knee jerk rage for change.

Hope we win for them and they have a brilliant day out.

    Well done. 👏 👏👏

Normally before a game v them ,I’m a nervous wreck . The league game the other week I was completely uptight , but even the first game of the season v them , I’m a bit like that .

So I can’t explain why I feel so calm this time , although I expect the nerves to ramp up as we approach kick off .

The fourth goal will settle me down though.

  16. Taurangabhoy on

David66 very kind of you. Enjoy the game from the pub. Set my alarm for 2 am but can’t sleep . I’ll take 1-0 right now. If we don’t get any reds we should win.
