Fixture gains and worries

287

We travel to Ibrox the day before the transfer window closes.  I’m not entirely happy about this.  My expectations are that several of our key players will be subject to offers, some of which will go to the wire, some of which may not be accepted.

Approaching deadlines are unsettling.  There can be a tacit acceptance that the player will move after a game, such as Odsonne Edouard moved to Crystal Palace two days after he ‘posted in’ a losing performance at Ibrox.  And there can be an outright refusal to contemplate a transfer, such as when Lyon were given a heard ‘No’ when attempting to sign Moussa Dembele, only for the player to throw a hissy fit in front of teammates, coaches and press photographers.

Even getting replacements in early does not fix all problems.  Kyogo was on the field when Odsonne performed so poorly at Ibrox, but the our new Japanese forward played on the wing until the last 20 minutes, when he started to terrorise the Newco defence.

Managers are understandably reluctant to bench a tried and tested player for an untested one in important games.  Ange Postecoglou should have started Odsonne on the bench and put Kyogo through the middle, but no one seriously considered that before the game.

The most positive reading from the fixtures is that we are away to Aberdeen, Newco, Hearts, and Dundee United in the first round of fixtures.  These are difficult games and will mean we have the same sides at home during the winter months, when away pitches are often poor, and for the deciding set of fixtures in April and May.

Plastic pitches are a larger than normal feature for next season.  We have Livingston and Falkirk at home, and Kilmarnock away, in the first 11 games.  I don’t expect any of these sides to make the top six, which means we will have one less game on plastic than we would if we had two away games at these venues during the opening set.  It’s a small (potential) benefit, but still welcome.

    Scully – indeed.

In the spirit of the SMSM always trying to justify the criminality of hun supporters as provocation, I tried to find the Scotsman “Sign of the cross” front page from 2006, which seems to have been erased from the internet.

It was one of the most abhorrent and sinister front pages ever published by the SMSM.

Just think of all the dodgy Cellic streams!

    Hmmmmm.

Neil Warnock said to Alan Brazil that Celtic’s pressing game will be easily overcome, by playing long balls over the top of the press, as that is the “Rope-a-dope” way that Russell Martin plays.

Like wee Naisy did for Hearts vs Cellic at Parkhead when the Green Brigade were banned as Celtic’s Billionaires and Millionaires didn’t like to offend their Wall Street pals(owners?) with a stadium full of Palestinian flags, so created a library instead, and 7 points were dropped before the GB were forgiven for being Human and were allowed back in again.

Hearts were leading us 0-2 at half time and full time and even Santa Clause got booed by the best fans in the world.

Long balls, low blocks, rope-a-dope, parked buses.

Naismith, Thileeny, and now the new Hun Manager, and Livingston.

Prosecutor Leo McGinn said: “At that point, Mr Sinisalo turned back to his own goal towards the Rangers fans and pumped his fists.

“This sparked an angry reaction from the Rangers fans behind the goal, and a half bottle of Buckfast was thrown in his direction.

Victim blaming happens sometimes in society.

Unfortunately there are times when the defence try it.

First time in my life I’ve witnessed victim blaming by the prosecution.

*TB I’ve worked at the municipal, regional and federal level and believe me the biggest problem is NOT the employees or lack of them but the politicians, for example, in the first 2 the speed limits are dictated by them, the latter are determined by professionals, I often council friends and acquaintances that if you want something done at the local level talk to your councillor.

  13. tontine tim

No, the problems are that we do not have democratic councils, indeed we abolished local democratic local government in Scotland in or around the mid 1970s, without so much as one vote. Not one, on some kind of commission designed to benefit the richest against the poorest. An attack on the people, who had no say the changes that were forced upon them. No say! That democratic deficit continues under Devolution continues under an SNP government which has centralised power in Edinburgh at the expense of Glasgow, while Scotland’s greatest city, is hamstrung by the GCC, an organisation, which deep down, in its present format, has an inveterate hatred for Celtic FC

  14. I see that Lee Miller has said that there is no offer from Celtic for his son Lennon.

Now this indicates that Lennon Miller is likely not Brendans first choice for the midfield, If we had made an offer then indicates we had an interest and permission to speak to the player. With not even an offer this means Brendan has someone else in mind . We would have made offers for all Brendans first choice signing targets. If say Hatate is wanting to leave then Brendan will want a replacement before allowing him to leave or at very least in advanced negotiations.

Now we may have an agreement with Motherwell that we will match any offer but if his father says no offer then this would indicate no contact with his son or his agents.

I am aware Celtic dont discuss targets with the hostile MSM and with good reason. I have seen many articles on our interest in this player but no mention from anyone from Celtic
