SCOTT BROWN will have the honour of unfurling the Premiership flag against Hearts on the first day of the league season.
The Celtic captain is celebrating 10 years at the champions and has revealed he has been “humbled” by the invitation.
Brown, 31, has enjoyed a decade of success in the Hoops since arriving in a £4million deal from Hibs, claiming seven titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups.
The midfield dyanmo will open season 2017/18 – his testimonial year – by unfurling the flag at Celtic Park on August 5 after accepting the invitation from chairman Ian Bankier.
Brown said: “It is very humbling for me to be asked to unfurl the league flag on such a great day for the club and I thank our chairman for this great honour.
“We had an incredible season last year, reaching six-in-a-row, winning the treble and managing to go unbeaten domestically and all of our players deserve real credit for the way in which they went about their business.
“The level of determination throughout the team, each week to deliver, was phenomenal. I’m so proud of all my team-mates for the level of commitment they showed.
“Under the manager and his staff, we were totally united in giving everything we had last season to deliver for our supporters and it is a season which I am sure brought a lot of happiness to our fans.”
Bankier added: “We are delighted to announce Scott has accepted our invitation to unfurl the SPFL flag this year at Celtic Park at the first league match of the season.
“We thought it very appropriate that Scott was given this honour particularly as he marks his 10th anniversary and testimonial year at the club.
“In that period, Scott Brown has given everything to Celtic. He has served this club with distinction and has been a wonderful Celtic captain. He is a leader on and off the pitch and deservingly so, a huge favourite amongst our supporters.
“Last season epitomised our captain, he was the leader, the driving force behind a team which delivered a truly memorable season and a level of success and achievement which may never be repeated.
“As Celtic supporters we should reflect on last season with tremendous pride and once again I applaud Brendan, his backroom team and the entire squad for all they achieved on behalf of the club.
“Scott is hugely deserving of this honour, I am sure it is a day which Scott and his family will enjoy, as we celebrate our sixth consecutive league title victory.”
