Fletch lives!

335

And we’re back to 2009.  Steven Fletcher was wanted by Celtic in January that year.  The misinformation about why he ended up going to Burnley for £4.5m instead of Celtic is legendary, and we all like a legend, so there is no need to trouble anyone with facts.

The talent Scottish football fans knew he had back then has been confirmed by the 11 years he spent in English football.  If he accepts Celtic’s offer of a contract he will join former Hibernian team mate, Scott Brown, as one of the older members of the squad.

I read some are a bit animated about what this means for the other strikers but I don’t see it moving the dial much.  No first team player will be sold on the back of recruiting a 33-year-old.  If he arrives, we would have a better-than-Lewis-Morgan option in the event all other strikers are unavailable for a cup final or European game.  And remember, it is prudent to have as large a squad as reasonably possible this season; fixtures could be delayed, then come thick and fast.  This is a low risk cover option with no particular strategic importance.

Loving this #9inarow challenge idea; a 9k run is on the agenda later.  Maybe run past a few Darwin Award pubs, if you know what I mean……..

Elhamed is a right back and Bitton is not and never will be a centre half.

SW has played 45mins first team football

You’re splitting hairs here fella. Both have played CH in an able and auxiliary manner. In a 3 at the back they can slot in too. Neil has used them there and both are recognised as competent cover in the centre of defence.

I would like a new CH but to suggest we have only 2 of them currently is not true. I’m hoping we get a Left sided CH for a bit of balance and may need 2 if big Ajer leaves for big bucks.

    “Biscuit tin”?

We have just spent over £5M on a goalkeeper!

Fletcher would have been a good squad payer for us, but on our terms not his…..

Cannot believe that some are worried about Sevco’s latest signings, Joey Barton, Jordan Rossiter, Brandon Barker,…..get a grip…

  3. re center half – I love Julian and expect he will have a great season. He has been injury free and is up to speed with the game here and improving. IF he gets injured – pick ONE player in the squad who could dominate the box? exactly !

Signing a dominant CB is an absolute priority for me.

  5. But to be honest.they Sevco will eventually get some of these signings right ,Celtic signed some duds to,If the DUP is giving Sevco cash ,then surely that’s a crime ,The Tory government gave them that money as to support them in the Commons,so I think that’s a non starter,My theory is just like the Jambo supporter who was going to give millions to the SFA ,that’s were the huns are being financed, and them not being in the Stock Market they can get away with these sort off things,as for our Club they fleece us all the time,we get treated like second class citizens ,ripped off at every opportunity ie Season ticket money ,food the usual stuff pies etc etc toilets are a disgrace etc etc etc .

  6. Mcginn could easily have told petrie and hibs not to bother with villa cause he was only interested in going to celtic. Players have all the power and McGinn was no different, he was heading into the last year of his contract. Truth is players dont give a f@&k, they talk about childhood club etc. well my childhood club is my adulthood club and will be the only club i follow until the day I draw my last breath.

If I was a player I sure as hell would engineer a move to my club before my career ended. Imagine being a talented footballer and actively deciding to reject the hoops or never playing for the hoops when you were good enough. I would regret that for the rest of my life, money is no substitute.

Regardless of what you think of KT leaving before the chance of 10 you cant take away the act that he played for his team and his achievements while playing for us. He lived the dream, if only other talented footballers followed the dream and not their pockets

    ……..

When we signed elhammed everyone was complaining he was a centreback not a rightback if I recall correctly. Bitton has played in centreback more over the last 2 season than he has played centremid. Stephen welsh has played 45 minutes for celtic first team, he has played football since he was a kid but he will get more playing time if we play him.

Is it Legend or Fact that PL has publicly said that the handling of the Fletcher affair was poorly handled by Celtic?

I see a ‘Barker in for Hagi’ headline.

Phil Mac gave a heads up on this not long ago – SMSM told to hype him.

    Let’s see the what happens.

  14. STEBHOY @ 2:33 PM,

Spot on, our transfer market negotiations and our treatment of players as commodities does little to help build a first rate squad.

As for Brendan Rodgers, his comments on Shved were telling…

“The club have been in contact with Maryan’s representatives and he’s a talented young player for the future,” said Rodgers. “They’ll look to get the deal done and he’ll probably be out on loan and come into the club in the summer. I haven’t seen a great deal of him. It’s something that’s come to the club through circumstance and he’s been watched and looked at, but I can’t say I know a great deal about him.

“But what I have seen he’s a talent and someone who will probably benefit the club in the future. We’ve got about a million wingers and don’t need another one but he’s a talent and in the summer we’ll probably lose wingers and he’ll look to come in. It’s an opportunity for the club to sign a young, talented player but not one that will probably help us now.”

His frustration with the process was palpable. Dithering on players we needed, buying “prospects” we didn’t – it’s crazy.

Now we see the likes of Ajeti swithering. The Club that attracted Moussa Dembele, who was wanted by a host of Premiership Clubs now struggle to attract a West Ham rejects.

But agreed, if he doesn’t want to pull on the hoops and prove himself, then he’s not for us imo…

    Hail Hail

  15. His frustration at not being allowed to go to China was palpable and you can read his comments in that light.

If only he’d have told John McGinn that he’d play him in the Celtic first team, we’d surely have had him signed cos that’s what John McGinnn said.

    QED- Brendan fecked up. Surely??

  16. Lyle Taylor, aged around 30, with about 13 previous clubs including Falkirk and Partick Thistle. Unless he is a (very) late developer don’t bother . He’s a free and with seemingly no stampede to sign him, this might be attractive to PL. I’d imagine (as a free) the Huns would have considered him but didn’t pursue. That says enough to me.

BSR…..”The ole Sellic Box-to-box Mezzala.Wing-half.Holding Deep-lying Centre-Back.Advanced playmaker.False attacking, In the Hole. Inverted Winger. Wideman.”…..is now on his way to the airport in a taxi driven by one of the many CQN volunteers…

  18. Oh John McGinn

    We were after him

    He went to Villa

    Now it’s over
