Fletch lives!

335

And we’re back to 2009.  Steven Fletcher was wanted by Celtic in January that year.  The misinformation about why he ended up going to Burnley for £4.5m instead of Celtic is legendary, and we all like a legend, so there is no need to trouble anyone with facts.

The talent Scottish football fans knew he had back then has been confirmed by the 11 years he spent in English football.  If he accepts Celtic’s offer of a contract he will join former Hibernian team mate, Scott Brown, as one of the older members of the squad.

I read some are a bit animated about what this means for the other strikers but I don’t see it moving the dial much.  No first team player will be sold on the back of recruiting a 33-year-old.  If he arrives, we would have a better-than-Lewis-Morgan option in the event all other strikers are unavailable for a cup final or European game.  And remember, it is prudent to have as large a squad as reasonably possible this season; fixtures could be delayed, then come thick and fast.  This is a low risk cover option with no particular strategic importance.

Loving this #9inarow challenge idea; a 9k run is on the agenda later.  Maybe run past a few Darwin Award pubs, if you know what I mean……..

  2. Just had a conversation with my dad regarding Lyle Taylor. Whilst in between clubs Lyle used Alloa for training purposes. Having watched him for weeks his verdict is, bang average, do not touch.

Let’s hope this is the striker we don’t get😝

I enjoy your .. less than, minus negative £4m for Alfredo the not so great …

But figures (waist size) included, do not matter when it comes to previous club, current club or future klub … the books have been cooked for many as years as I have ever known ….

CQN is at its quietest when Celtic are flying and the Huns are “downtrodden” sometimes … without even looking for the “hits” P67s blog gets busy when people either “worry” about our nearest rivals … or want to have a wee pop at Celtic (usually interlopers) but like every other team in the world we have fans who enjoy being unhappy

I will quite happily enjoy Celtic being Celtic ….

Hail Hail from a sunburnt East Coast of Scotland

ps … am glad everybody wants their post on any potential signing but surely Neil has a bit of credit in the (shower) ah mean, bank, to give him a bit of backing to see how it goes … shoorly even his biggest critic since he took over in this spell thinks he deserves that at least ? …. probably not :-)

Are you watching on BT? They explained that there’s a new/change in the rule, your shoulder is now deemed as being offside, as you can now score with it.

This is suppose to help with the handball rule, where they kept on giving penalties when it hit high up in the shoulder/arm area

You think Lyle Taylor will be a good signing for Celtic then why not say so and give your reasons.

I’m giving insight from someone involved in 40 yrs of football.

My dad was working with him for a full 5 weeks only 3 yrs ago.

Let’s forget that though, let’s look at his record is it the 3 goals in 15 appearances for Partick that’s impressing you or the 44 goals in 131 League 2 appearances for AFC Wimbledon? His best ever return was in League 1 32 in 63 playing the vast majority in the lower leagues moving from club to club and you think that is the answer?

I’m bringing insight and knowledge to the blog, what are your posts bringing?

  10. Aberdeen FC Statement

(I know, this is CQN, but, forget about the Huns. This virus is the biggest threat to our 10 in a row 😔 )

Further to tonight’s JRG statement, Aberdeen FC confirms that two first team players, who have tested positive for COVID-19 but are asymptomatic, are self-isolating for ten days.

In line with government guidance and procedures from the football authorities, six other players, who were in close proximity with the two positive cases, are also self-isolating for 14 days.

The Club has been in open discussions with the football authorities since this came to light.

As a result, the Club will be missing eight players for the St Johnstone game, which the JRG has confirmed will now go ahead on Saturday.

AFC Chairman, Dave Cormack, said: “After Saturday’s game, with all eyes on Pittodrie, we were once again commended on the stringent processes and measures we had in place. Given the efforts of everyone at the Club and our investment in protecting our most valuable assets, this is a bitter blow.

“With two first team players testing positive for COVID-19, plus six others having to isolate for 14 days, it is also a harsh reminder of the severity and speed of spread of this virus.

“The Club will be carrying out a full investigation but, as an immediate first step, we have reinforced the Club’s COVID-19 protocols and the governing bodies’ guidance with every player and member of staff and will continue to regularly educate and remind everyone of what is, and what is not, acceptable in the current climate.

“We now have to focus on preparing for Saturday’s game under extremely difficult circumstances.”

  11. Great second half in wolves game

Earlier, huns played tight and looked dangerous with Kent spare man. Direct play through their middle would wreck them . Leverkusen played it like they were 3-1 up, huns pointlessly played for a draw

Goldson is Achilles for them (heel not supreme warrior)

Any “news” on the players being out and about “socialising” which is sort of against the rules for supreme sports people … by the way during a pandemic sport should be unimportant but equally sports people should be far more vigilant than people who don’t get the same leeway …

  14. GFTB

Yes, it’s widely acknowledged ( but not confirmed by the club….yet ) that these 8 players were out in town last weekend, and were in Soul Bar ( which is where the pictures of crowds queueing to get into were from )

The players can be spotted out in town after games at the weekends, but should have been at home in line with regulations.

There’s a lot of hostility towards these players in local social media pages.

    Anderson

    Kennedy

    Ferguson

    McKenna

    Devlin

    Ojo

    Bryson

In addition to Cosgrove, who is long term injured.

  17. glendalystonsils on

The story I heard from a friend in Aberdeen is that the outbreak was centred around a group out on a stag do. Several pubs were visited. No idea whether any of the Aberdeen players were involved or were anywhere near a pub but I can’t imagine any stag do being strict about observing covid procedures.

As I say , just something I was told and have no reason to disbelieve.

I’d try to buy Ferguson , he reminds me of a young Scott Brown, arrogant and not wiling to stand down ,

My post was definitely not trying to go against yours … but in this day and age footballers who are on plenty more than punters than have been working since March should appreciate the situation … especially when there were “specific” rules for professional footballers months & months after what normal punters have never had that option … so it’s not accidental … very serious (in my opinion :-)
